Race 1: JONES AIR/ ST GEORGE & DIRRANBANDI COTTON GROWERS WEIGHT FOR AGE 1000M

SPEEDING DRAGON (Appr. M. McGillivray) hung out badly from the 900M up to and including the 600M point.

BACK ON TOP (Appr. Ms A. Fancourt) was tightened for room as she attempted a run between the inside rail and SPEEDING DRAGON and then had to steady her mount.

There was a delay in the declaration of correct weight due to the rider of BACK ON TOP A/Jockey. Ms A Fancourt sought to view the patrol film. After viewing the available films Appr. Ms Fancourt lodged an objection against SPEEDING DRAGON being declared the winner alleging interference on or about the 900M point. After hearing statements from both riders and trainers Stewards then dismissed the protest. It was the opinion of Stewards that although SPEEDING DRAGON did shift in marginally and hampered BACK ON TOP, they took into consideration the margin at the finish and were satisfied that the interference suffered by SPEEDING DRAGON did not exceed the beaten margin between both horses. Stewards subsequently informed all parties that the placing’s would stand and correct weight was then declared. Although the shift in was minimal, Appr. M. McGillivray was requested by Stewards to exercise more care.

Race 2: HALPIN MOTORS/ ST GEORGE MACHINERY CENTRE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000M

RAKU TU was declared a late scratching at 2.06 pm due to its refusal to load.

Stewards after taking evidence from the starter acknowledged some mitigating circumstances that may have contributed to RAKU TU not being able to be loaded. Stewards spoke with Trainer Mr Patrick Sexton who was in charge of the horse on behalf of Mr Peter Sexton. Stewards advised him that the horse would be given the benefit of the doubt on this occasion and this was largely due to the starter’s comments. However, should the horse refuse to load at its next start it may be required to participate in a barrier trial.

Due to the late scratching of RAKU TU the following deductions applied:

1st: .06 cents win and .06 cents a place

2nd: .09 cents a place

3rd: .10 cents a place

Race 3: THE MINING PTY LTD QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1150M

MAYBE MAYBE (Appr. Ms A. Fancourt) jumped out and made contact with DOG TIRED (Appr. N. Ogura)

Near the 900m OARSOME LIL (Appr. Ms M. Cox) shifted out and did inconvenience TOMS BREAK (Appr. J. Orman) who had to steady and shift in away from the heels of OARSOME LIL. Stewards spoke with A/Jockey Ms Cox in relation to this matter and she stated to stewards that the horse failed to muster the early speed necessary to be well positioned and the mare resented the kickback coming from the other runners. It was her opinion that her best course of action under the circumstances was to shift out in an attempt to avoid the kickback. Appr. J Orman advised Stewards it was always his intention to shift in closer to the rail on or about the time of the incident.

OARSOME LIL continued to travel wide over the mid to final stages of the event and shortly after it turned into the home straight OARSOME LIL did shift out further. Appr. Ms M Cox advised stewards that her mount was still trying to avoid the kickback and in her opinion the best course of action she could take at the time was to travel wide. However, the horse did continue to drift wider than she had hoped despite her best efforts to straighten the mare.

Race 4: ST GEORGE HARDWEAR M10 CLASS B HANDICAP 1150M

BOOTS STAY ON (Appr. N. Ogura) was slow to begin
.
Shortly after the start CHILLDOWN (Ms R. Kerwin) jumped in and made contact with BOOTS STAY ON.

MAGIC GLENYCE (Appr. Tilley) hung out during the middle stages of the event and shortly after had to be eased off the heels of MUSIC MEDIA (Appr. J. Orman).

BOOTS STAY ON hung out into the turn and over the concluding stages.

Race 5: QLD COTTON ST GEORGE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1600M

Approaching the 1200m point JUVENILES (Appr. Ms M. Cox) was tightened for room between BIG BAD JOEL (Appr. Ms A. Fancourt) and SHAKES (Appr. L.Tilley).

The rider of FALONTINO (C. Bryen) advised stewards that his mount may have appeared to be disappointing finishing in fifth placing. However, the gelding did resent the kick back and in his opinion was not suited to the track today.

WINNING DREAMS returned to the mounting yard riderless with the Clerk of the Course. The rider of WINNING DREAMS (S. Morris) later advised stewards that in his opinion the mare wasn’t travelling well and she may have gone amiss at approximately the 800M point. A veterinary examination was performed and the mare was found to be exhibiting signs of lameness and did have some swelling in the nearside foreleg. Trainer W Baker advised Stewards the mare would be retired.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY (Appr. M. McGillivray) to view the patrol film available. After viewing the patrol film no objection was sought and weight was declared.
