As the start was effected JOLLY WOODMAN (J.Camilleri), was leaning on the side of the barrier stall and was slow to jump and on jumping jumped outwards.
Shortly after the start LITLLE CUTIE (Apprentice Ms P.EDWARDS) ducked in abruptly and raced greenly throughout the event. On returning to scale Jockey J.LONG who rode MULTI QUICK lodged a protest against POTTERS MATE (S.OATES) both of which had been declared as a dead heat for second placing. After hearing evidence and viewing the patrol film Stewards dismissed the protest and the Judge’s placings were confirmed.

Rounding the home turn Chardonays Expenses (A.Spradau) shifted out marginally and made slight contact with KALINGA EMMA (J.FOSTER) forcing that runner wider on the turn and which in turn forced LADY FLICK (K.BALLARD) even wider. Jockey A.SPRADAU was reminded of his responsibilities as a senior rider.

1st - ARTIGAS 2nd - BATTLE TIME 3rd BULL BLINCO 4th THE GOLDEN GOAL
Jockey S.OATES approached the Stewards advising he would be 1kiloram over weight on FOREST CLASSIC. After interviewing Jockey OATES and Trainer IVERS Stewards noted and accepted Jockey OATES’ explanation as no suitable replacement rider was available. Jockey OATES was warned that in the future any similar offence would incur a penalty. As the start was effected FOREST CLASSIC threw its head in the air and jumped outwards and raced very ungenerously throughout. ARTIGAS (K.BALLARD), SILLY MILLY (A.Spradau) and BATTLE TIME (J.Foster) were all inconvenienced soon after the start as the result of FOREST CLASSIC’S behaviour. Stewards advised Trainer IVERS that a Barrier Certificate would be required under L.R. 36 (b) before FOREST CLASSIC can start again. At about the 550 Metres HELLO BELLE (J.LONG) was attempting to force a run along the running rail on the inside of MARENA LAD (D.PRICE) but was unable to obtain sufficient room and was forced to check. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards questioned Jockeys LONG, PRICE and K.BALLARD who rode ARTIGAS, and as a result advised Jockey LONG to ensure there is sufficient room before attempting a run between horse.
