Trainer Jamie McConachy and jockey R Barone were brought before stewards regarding a complaint from R Barone that he had been threatened by J McConachy. After taking evidence form both parties, McConachy claimed that he was out of town at the time of the alleged allegations and R Barone could not name a witness. Both parties were warned that a continuation of this aggravation between them could lead to a charge being laid.
Trainers A Clark and H C Forster and jockey R Barone were brought before stewards to sort out a dispute over the booking of jockey R Barone on both ALL OR NOTHING and OUT RIDE in the Tambo Cup. After taking evidence form all parties it was resolved that R Barone had been engaged for ALL OR NOTHING but had indicated to A Clark that should ALL OR NOTHING be unable to obtain a run he would be available for OUT RIDE. A Clark agreed that he knew of the arrangement but still insisted that Barone should not have been booked for an emergency. The matter does not appear to be settled and may be reopened to investigate further complaints by A Clark at a date to be fixed.
Race 1 Maiden Handicap - 1000 Metres – 8 Starters
An enquiry was held into an incident shortly after the start in which RIVINGO (B Richardson) was inconvenienced. Jockey T Austin (DRAKEN) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to roll in shortly after the start. A LITTLE ODD (R Tilley) threw its head in the air at the start and raced that way for some distance losing ground. R Tilley stated that the horse had reacted to the rings. R Barone was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at about the 800m and inconvenience GYPSY RULES (R Bellert)
Race 2 Class 2 Handicap - 1000 Metres – 6 Starters
DOUBLE SILKS (B Richardson) was slowly away and then had to eased approaching the 800m when it commenced to overrace. SUNSET LASS (C Baker) was pulled up at the 800m when the saddle slipped on that horse. The gear was checked and the saddle had been restrained by the breastplate but had slipped back far enough to warrant the pulling up of the horse. Both trainer Shane Iverson and jockey Carmel baker reported that the saddle had slipped on a previous occasion and that the shape of the horse made it very difficult to secure the saddle securely. They were instructed to find some way to solve the problem in future.
Race 3 Super QRIS Class 3 Handicap - 1200 Metres- 6 Starters
Nothing to report.
Race 4 Matilda Highway Tambo Cup Handicap – 1400 Metres- 13 Starters
OUT RIDE scratched at payment time when no rider was available. ALL OR NOTHING stood in the boxes and took no part in the race. Trainer H C Forster advised that ALL OR NOTHING would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being allowed to start again. An enquiry was held into the reason for BEST OF THE JILLYS (T Richardson) having to check at about the 1300m. It was determined that T Richardson had allowed his mount to shift inside the line of the running rail leaving the 1400 chute and had been unable to hold his ground inside BLUE ARROW (NZ) (J Cerchi) when entering the course proper. Although STEP ABOARD (R Bellert) and DUNEISM (R Hammond) were racing outside BLUE ARROW (NZ) neither horse had had any bearing on the incident.
Race 5 Class 4 Handicap – 1400 Metres- 9 Starters
An enquiry was held into an incident at about the 750m in which FERAL FIRE (T Richardson) had to be checked off the heels of VOREEBA (E Camille). T Richardson told stewards that his horse had made the incident look worse as it was attempting to hang out at the time. E Camille admitted to stewards that he was not aware that FERAL FIRE was on his inside as he moved in. E Camille was issued with a reprimand.
Race 6 Class 4 Handicap – 1200 Metres- 9 Starters
