On arrival at the track it was found that water was still laying on the 800m chute following a storm Thursday night. It was decided to move the start back to the course proper and alter the distance to 1000m for safety reasons. All trainers were advised of the change and offered the option of scratching. All elected to run. All riders were shown a damp patch on the rail at about the 300m and all agreed it presented no danger. Due to the threat of rain all races were put forward with the last being run at 3.30pm.
Race 1 Class 1 Handicap – 1000 Metres 10 Starters
An enquiry was held into alleged interference to HALO COSMO (R Tilley), SALINITY (W Orbell) & MUSTANG PRINCE (J Kehoe) approaching the 800m turn. T Austin, the rider of STALWART HERITAGE, was charged with careless riding, found guilty and suspended from riding in races up to and including 24/11/2001.
Race 2 Maiden Handicap – 1000 Metres 6 Starters.
No report
Race 3 Super QRIS Class 4 Handicap – 1000 Metres 9 Starters
During the race the point of the saddle fastening the girth broke away causing the saddle to shift on KING’S CAPER (R Hammond) giving that jockey a difficult ride.
Race 4 Open Handicap – 1200 Metres 5 Starters
A protest was lodged by second placed GO RADAR (R Hammond) against STORMY CIRCLES (T Williams) being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties, viewing the patrol video and on their own observations stewards determined that GO RADAR had attempted to run in behind STORMY CIRCLES and in doing so caused itself to be checked. The objection was dismissed.
Race 5 Class 1 Handicap – 1200 Metres 9 Starters
SUPER SIR ECHO (T Austin) was slowly away and commenced a forward move approaching the home turn but failed to run on and finished last. Trainer Anne Cullen and Jockey Todd Austin were at a loss to explain the poor showing of the horse.
