General: An inquiry will be open into the reason for Jockey O Galea failure to arrive on course to fulfil his engagements. The following replaces were approved by the Stewards:
Race 1, King’s Groove T Austin; Race 3, Gebrselassie A Lane; Race 5, Sauveterre T Austin.
Race 1: Class A Handicap
Stewards permitted T Austin to ride King’s Groove 1kg overweight.
Kashmir Spell, which broke through the barriers and galloped a lap, was declared a late scratching at 1.33pm. The follow deductions were ordered 12cents on the face value of the win tickets and 14cents on the value of the place tickets.
Jockey J Starr was injured in this incident and was transported to hospital.
Witchcraft was very slow to begin.
Witchcraft was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and was also inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
Race 2: Maiden Plate
As J Starr was indisposed Stewards permitted T Austin to ride Kwilbet.
Nug’s Pride which bucked on the way to the barriers and dislodged its rider R Barone was declared a late scratching at 2.16pm. The follow deductions were ordered 16cents on the face value of the win tickets and 18cents on the value of the place tickets. Trainer J Peskett was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the mare prior to her next start.
Much Power was slow to begin.
Buriton Boy was very slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of Buriton Boy which finished a distance last revealed the gelding to be shin sore in both fore legs.
Race 3: Class B Handicap
Due to J Starr being indisposed and no other rider available Southeast Sheila was declared a late scratching at 3.20pm.
As no other rider available Stewards permitted T Austin to ride Prince Brocco 1/2kg overweight.
Race 4: Class 4 Handicap
Jockey J Starr returned from the hospital and was cleared to fulfil his remanding engagements.
Stewards permitted T Austin to ride Neat ‘N’ Tidy 3kg overweight as no other rider available.
A short distance after the start Neat ‘N’ Tidy shifted out and made contact with Bold and Proud.
Bold and Proud was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
Race 5: Open Handicap
Stewards permitted T Austin to ride Sauveterre 3kg overweight as no other rider available.
Kalnuto jumped away awkwardly.
Kalnuto was inclined to hang out from after passing the 800m placing its rider apprentice C Browne in some difficultly. Trainer R Hermann was advised that the mare must trail prior to its next start.
