GENERAL:
Due to this meeting being transferred from Saturday 27th September to today, jockey C. Bryen was unable to fulfill his riding engagements. Rider replacements were made as per the stewards race day summary.
Race 1 – ABH LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M:
SOMERSET DAWN – Dislodged rider during the preliminary. Trainer P. Clarke was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners. Was slow to begin.
GANADO EXPRESS – Raced four wide without cover during the early and middle stages of the event. When questioned in regards to the seemingly disappointing performance of Ganado Express, jockey G. Geran stated that after beginning only fairly, he was forced to pressure the gelding in the early stages of the event in an attempt to race in a forward position. He further added that Ganado Express was unable to muster the necessary speed to improve and as a result raced in a wide position and proved disappointing over the concluding stages of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of Ganado Express failed to reveal and significant findings.
BUSH BEAT – Raced three wide without cover during the early and middle stages of the event.
Race 2 – S&C AYRE LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT BMK 70 HCP - 1000M:
HIDDEN DUCK – Jumped away awkwardly.
SHEARER’S MAGIC – Hung out during the middle stages of the event and as a result raced in a wide position.
Race 3 – CATTLE CAMP MOTEL CLASS B HCP – 1200M:
Stewards accepted the reasons for the late scratching of MISS CARTER.
MYSTERY ANGEL – Raced wide throughout.
RUBIS – Raced wide throughout. Jockey B. Appo was fined the sum of $400 for using his whip in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account the severity of this breach.
Race 4 – PHIPS FAMILY TRUST BMK 60 HCP – 1400M:
FIDESI – Was slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be eased.
M’SIEUR MONTPELIER – Was slow to begin.
THE WATER BOMBER – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
CRAWFISH – Laid out rounding the home turn.
Race 5 – LEICHHARDT HOTEL TAROOM CUP OPEN HCP – 1400M:
M. McGillivray was fined the sum of $100 for presenting the wrong saddlecloth for BERNADECIO to trainer K. Waller. Trainer K. Waller was fined the sum of $100 for presenting BERNADECIO with the incorrect saddlecloth number. The horse was subsequently re-saddled.
Stewards inquired into the reasons for DESERT LAIR (M. O’Brien) and REGAL PRINCE (N. Morton), which were drawn in barriers two and four respectively, were loaded into the incorrect barriers. After taking evidence from both riders and the starter, Jockey M. O’Brien and Apprentice N. Morton were both reprimanded for negligently breaching AR 128(1), which requires a rider to occupy its allotted barrier stall. Both DESERT LAIR and REGAL PRINCE were subsequently re-loaded into their correct barrier stalls prior to the start of the event.
DESERT LAIR – Was slow into stride.
MANCHEBO – G. Geran the rider of Manchebo was questioned into the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Jockey G. Geran stated that after obtaining a forward position outside the leader, he elected to place the gelding under pressure from the 500m and in his opinion, proved disappointing over the concluding stages. He further added that Manchebo might not have been suited to the prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of Manchebo failed to reveal any significant findings.
