Race 1: Merry Christmas Maiden Plate- 1075 metres
1st – ARCTIC BEAR 2nd - PENNY STIRLING 3rd - MARSCAYS EDITION 4th – KIWI RHYTHM
Trainer J. Rundle was fined $50 for late declaration of ride for PENNY STIRLING.
DANCING RHYTHM (M. Barnham) which had been slightly fractious in the barrier, reared in the air when the start was effected and raced ungenerously shortly afterwards and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial abrasions to its head. Trainer R. Vagg was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare in relation to this incident.
Jockey S. Evans reported KIWI RHYTHM raced greenly throughout and shifted ground under pressure in the straight which required her to stop and straighten.
Race 2: Happy New Year Class 4 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st - DINERO RAPIDO 2nd - ROCKIN ROD 3rd - SATZERO 4th – GRAND VARGUE
MANDS BOND (L. Dillon) was slow away.
TAYANSO (App. R. Hinricks) was tightened on jumping between GRAND VARGUE (C. Beets) and HEZABURRABOY (S. Evans) both of which shifted ground.
MONA STAR (M. Cant) raced wide throughout.
ROCKIN ROD (App. C. Pye) was inclined to lay in marginally in the straight.
Correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice C Pye to view the patrol footage of the concluding stages of the race with the intention of lodging an objection. After do so, Apprentice Pye did not wish to proceed. Also, Trainer J. Rundle wished to view the print for 3rd placing. After doing so, Mr. Rundle was satisfied as to the judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.
Race 3: Owners & Trainers Open Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – FORTY EIGHT CRASH 2nd – FLYING SQUAW 3rd - RED TARN 4th – STRONG TEMPO
KOUNELI (App. R. Hinricks), which was standing awkwardly in the barriers, was slow away when the start was effected.
FLYING SQUAW (M. Cant) and SNAGAPOT (C. Beets) made contact on jumping.
IT’S OUR NEDIYM (T. Bannon) began awkwardly.
FORTY EIGHT CRASH (App. C Pye) was inclined to hang out on a number of occasions throughout.
Race 4: Members Class B Handicap- 1400 metres
1st – MIGHTY MALOUVER 2nd - SENORINA 3rd – IRISH ICEBERG 4th – MARYWHO
Trainer T. Moloney was fined $50 for late declaration of rider for SAID HANRAHAN.
SAID HANRAHAN (App. K. Cross), which had been fractious in the barriers prior to the start, stood flatfooted and lost ground. Trainer T. Moloney was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding. Mr. Moloney stated it was his intention to retire the gelding.
SENORINA (App. C Pye) began awkwardly.
FERNFIELD (D. Whitmore) raced wide for the majority of the event.
TUSCAN VALLEY (M. Cant) was inclined to lay out throughout.
Jockey L. Dillon reported MARYWHO raced greenly when the filly was placed in the field with cover.
Trainer L. Applewaite reported BALLYVADDY had lost its off side front plate in running and quartered its hoof.
Race 5: Biloela Centre Motel Class 2 Handicap- 800 metres
1st - GENERAL POMPEI 2nd - FLYING OPTION 3rd - MITSIOUX 4th – ANNOYANCE
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Trainer B. Murray in regard to the late rider declaration for HOT FLUSHES.
Trainer N. King was fined $50 for late declaration of rider for CAN’T BE TOLD.
On exiting the enclosure, MITSIOUX, which was fractious and reluctant to proceed to the barriers, dislodged Jockey M. Cullen and at this time, Jockey Cullen struck the mare once on the hindquarters with his whip. After taking evidence and taking into account mitigating factors, Jockey M. Cullen was reprimanded for misconduct.
ANNOYANCE (App. K. Cross) was slow to begin.
GOLD WAR (D. Whitmore) which had been fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected, jumped away extremely awkwardly, in doing so unbalanced the rider and lost some ground. After this incident, GOLD WAR raced wide throughout.
HOT FLUSHES (M. Cant) reared as the start was effected, unbalanced the rider and was slow away.
At approximately the 350 metres, IN BOLD FASHION (M. Barnham) commenced to hang out for a short distance and became awkwardly placed on the heels of MY MARGARITA (L. Dillon) and was steadied.
Apprentice K. Cross was reminded of her obligations to weigh in for fourth place.
