On return to scale, Jockey J. Stephens (TWOGUNDAN) and Apprentice A Kitson (SUPER FELIX) made application to the Stewards to be declared non-runners as both were of the opinion the barriers had failed to open properly and denied both runners a fair start.
After taking evidence from the riders and Trainer D. Gardiner, it was established that the barrier of TWOGUNDAN had failed to open when the start was effected and the gelding had been denied a opportunity to jump with the field.
In regard to the application by Apprentice A Kitson, Stewards under the provisions acting under AR 134A, as SUPER FELIX had placed third, were unable to consider the gelding a non-runner.
