GENERAL
Stewards considered an application for Jockey I Coombes to be paid a losing riding fee and percentage of prize money earned if applicable for riding engagements on NINEDAYFORNIGHT and SOUTHSIDE. It was established that in communications between Jockey Coombes’ manager and Trainer J Devine, a firm engagement was maintained on SOUTHSIDE, however not on NINEDAY FORTNIGHT, at which time his manager sough another ride in that race. Stewards ordered that Jockey Coombes be paid a losing ride fee and applicable percentage for his engagement on SOUTHSIDE.
Trainer J. Devine was further questioned regarding the fitness of NINEDAYFORNIGHT in the week leading up to the race meeting. Due to conflicting statements made regarding this matter and no supporting evidence, Steward took no action. A pre-race veterinary inspection cleared the mare to start and a pre-race urine swab was obtained.
Race 1: Bauhinia Maiden Plate- 1075 metres
1st –RIVER OF DREAMS 2nd – BEAUTIFUL CLICHE 3rd – CHASIN IN THE WIND 4th-CITY FIRES
Apprentice J. King rode half a kilogram overweight on BEAUTIFUL CLICHÉ.
SIPPY (S McCullum) jumped inwards at the start and struck the barriers.
RIVER OF DREAMS (D Philpot) jumped outwards and made contact with SIPPY.
BEAUTIFUL CLICHÉ (App J King) hung outwards rounding the 800 mtr turn.
MENACING ROCKET (D Whitmore) raced wide from the 800 mtrs point till the 400 Mtrs.
Race 2: KILBUURNIE CLASS 4 HANDICAP- 1075 metres
1st – OTANGO 2nd – GUILETTA 3rd – SECRET SCENE 4th – NINEDAYFORTNIGHT
NINEDAYFORTNIGHT (App N Ogura) was slow into stride.
SECRET SCENE (S McCullum) jumped outwards and made contact with GUILETTA (D Philpot).
NINEDAYFORTNIGHT raced fiercely at the 800 mtrs and shifted wide on the track.
GUILETTA raced wide over the middle and concluding stages.
Race 3: CALLIDE OPEN HANDICAP- 1300 metres
1st – DIRECT DEBIT 2nd – MOSSANAY 3rd – SCHRAPNEL GULLY 4th – VAIN DAZZLER
Stewards accepted the reasons for the late declaration of rider on SCHRAPNEL GULLY.
MOSSANY (S McGovern) was slow into stride.
SCHRAPNEL GULLY (S McCullum) shifted outwards at the 1075mtr turn and made brief contact with VAIN DAZZLER (App R Payne).
As a result of this shift SCHRAPNEL GULLY struck itself and lacerated his near hind.
Race 4: CURTIS ISLAND CLASS 3 PLATE- 1400 metres
1st – SOUTHSIDE 2nd – FICKLE BUSINESS 3rd – RYTARGA 4th – SPEEDMAGICIAN
J. King rode SANSIRA half a kilogram overweight.
FICKLE BUSINESS (S McGovern) was slow into stride.
SPEED MAGICIAN (M Abe) and RYTARGA (D Philpot) came together on jumping.
Race 5: SANTOS CLASS B HANDICAP - 800 metres
1st –ROSE OF MAYHEM 2nd – THE CONDUCTOR 3rd – ME FAST TOO 4th – KEWAY
INNOCENT INMATE and TSIGANE’S LAD were scratched due to no available riders.
M. Abe was permitted to ride HER DIAMONDS 1 kilogram overweight due to no other riders being available. Due to mitigating circumstances, he was reprimanded under AR 120 (b).
NO RISQUE (I Coombes) was slow into stride.
HER DIAMONDS (M Abe) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
ROSE OF LAWRENCE (E Heinemann) jumped outwards and made contact with ME FAST TOO App N Ogura).
DANCING MICK (Apop J King) raced wide from the home turn.
