RACE 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 14 STARTERS
At the start: G Watson was dislodged from his mount GO RUBEN, BLUE GALAXY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice at 11:56 a.m. Approaching the 400 MR REDMAN (Ms D Andrews) had to be eased off the heels DOLLAR ROSE (R Gallacher) Jockey P Cullen reported that his mount BENICON was inclined to hang in approaching the home turn. The trainer of BLUE GALAXY was informed that stewards would require a Certificate of Soundness for Blue galaxy prior to starting again
RACE 2 SUPER QRIS 2YO MAIDEN HCP 1000 METRES 14 STARTERS
At the start: On jumping away BELTEGRA (M Lister) was eased to avoid the heels of FLYING GYPSY (P Cullen). IMPATIENCE (App M Campbell) and TIME AFFAIR (R Moses) were slow to move when the gates opened. At the 600 BENTLEY EXPRESS (M Cullen) was eased to avoid the heels of TIME AFFAIR who was being pressured by KING KWILA(S Watkin) . Near the 300 KING KWILA was eased to avoid the heels of FLYING GYPSY (P Cullen) who had shifted inwards. Trainer Glen Pierce was fined $25 for adding a girth cover to the saddle of HAPPY HORSE.
RACE 3 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 9 STARTERS
At the start: OFF BROADWAY (G Cullen) was slow into stride and subsequently hampered when SMOKEY AVALANCHE (G Watson) jumped inwards. At about the 850 OFF BROADWAY had to ease as a result of SUNDAE MORNING and SMOKEY AVALANCHE shifting ground.
RACE 4 SUPER QRIS 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1) 1200 METRES 13 STARTERS
At the start: GROSSE TETTE ( C Lennon) reared and lost ground. LIGHT UP MY HEART (Ms D Andrews) was marginally slow to jump. BOOFY BOY (M Guthrie) lugged throughout and is barred from racing until it passes a series of Barrier Trials. BANSEL was inspected by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. An Inquiry was held into an incident at about the 100 metre mark. Jockey’s G Cullen and M Campbell were questioned. After hearing evidence and viewing the film App M Campbell was charged with Careless Riding under the terms of Arr 137 a and suspended from riding in races from midnight on the 18th November 1999 up to and including 26th November 1999.
RACE 5 SUPER QRIS 3YO MAIDEN HCP (2) 1200 METRES 12 STARTERS
At the start; REAL ILLUSION (P Cullen) jumped inwards and wanted to hang in to the 600. No incidents in racing.
RACE 6 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 10 STARTERS
At the start; EL CENTRO (NZ) (F Edwards) and DRILL (W Kenning) who was difficult to load jumped inwards. Jockey F Edwards was admonished for failing to relieve the pressure. Jockey W Kenning was severely reprimanded for in that he failed to stop riding his mount DRILL and straighten on two occasions in the straight, causing EL CENTRO (F Edwards), CITIZEN SYD (M Cullen) & RED DECANTER (M Campbell) for galloping room.
RACE 7 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 METRES 14 STARTERS
Protest was lodged by Jockey S Hetherington the rider of DYNAMIC PROFIT (3rd) against EL QABOW (D Crossland) being placed 2nd on the grounds of alleged interference near the 300 mark. After hearing evidence, viewing the Video Film and Stewards observations, the Protest was dismissed and placings confirmed.
At the start: When the gates opened KAPUNDA (App M Guthrie) jumped out onto BENES (B Trinder). Approaching the 1000 IMPERIAL BEST (G Watson) moved out inconveniencing COUNT SWIFTLY (P Cullen) who in turn caused FREQUENTLY
(M Lister) and KILN (F Edwards) to be hampered. Stewards questioned App Guthrie KAPUNDA regarding an incident near the 300 mark and a further incident near the 200 mark. After hearing evidence and viewing the Video film, it was established that KAPUNDA when struck with the ship, had moved out onto COUNT SWIFTLY (P Cullen) who in turn moved out onto FREQUENTLY (M Lister). App Guthrie stopped riding and straightened his mount which over reacted and moved inwards on to GREY DEVOTION (P Wolfgram) who was inconvenienced. Stewards were mindful not to take action against App Guthrie other than to admonish him for his unnecessary use of the whip. Near the 800 BRANSON (s Watkin) was eased when hampered for galloping room between BENES and MYSTERY PACK.
RACE 8 OPEN HANDICAP 1400 METRES 13 STARTERS
When the gates opened STAGE BEAU dwelt and lost several lengths. At about the 550 BOTANY BAY GIFT (P Wolfgram) had to check momentarily when STAGE BEAU shifted in. Jockey M Cullen informed Stewards that STAGE BEAU had attempted to duck in on at least 3 occasions Jockey W Kenning was unable to ride his mount DANZA’S PRIDE out with the whip which had become entangled in the reins.
RACE 9 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 11 STARTERS
At the start: JUST SLIDE (R Moses) was fractious in the stalls and as a consequence lost ground when the gates opened. BRONZE HERO (R Gallacher) was reluctant to enter the stalls. CALYPSO SOUND (f Edwards) was denied a clear run behind TALAQ SYMBOL (P Cullen) over the concluding stages of the race. A Protest was lodged by S Hetherington the rider of KNIGHT TIME 2nd against JUST SLIDE (r Moses) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 400 mark. After viewing the film, the objection was dismissed.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
