RACE 1 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 5 STARTERS
Jockey I Coombes replaced Jockey M Gray on GOINGS ON when M Gray was delayed on route to the course. Over the final 200 metres CLAN WOLF changed strides on two occasions.
RACE 2 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 5 STARTERS
OUR SLOT was a late scratching at 12:32pm due to a float breakdown. Jockey P Cullen replaced Jockey M Chong on ALASKAN LAD when Jockey M Chong could not make the weight. Jockey M Chong was fined $50 AR120(b). No
racing incidents.
RACE 3 CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1300 METRES 7 STARTERS
No racing incidents. Trainer G Doolan reported that BROTHER had pulled up suffering from heat stress.
RACE 4 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1400 METRES 7 STARTERS
BIONIC BLETCH commenced to over race approaching the 1200 metres. At the 800 metres BIONIC BLETCH shifted out forcing TREMADOC wider on the track. TURNPIKE was held up for clear running until passing the 200 metres.
RACE 5 2YO HANDICAP 1000 METRES 12 STARTERS
MAP OF THE NORTH was very slow to begin and Trainer A Bailey was advised that he would have to obtain a barrier certificate before MAP OF THE NORTH could again race. At the 800 metres MR WEST had to be checked after hanging out across the heels MORRIE’S FINITO. Jockey F Edwards was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MORRIE’S FINITO. Jockey Edwards advised that MORRIE’S FINITO was having its first start since a spell, however had won a barrier trial in Cairns in the lead up to the days event. He advised that MORRIE’S FINITO had raced extremely keenly early however when placed under pressure on the home turn MORRIE’S FINITO had compounded. The explanation of F Edwards was noted. QUIVER’S ANGEL was inspected by the club veterinary surgeon who reported the horse had pulled up shin sore. Trainer G Farrell advised that QUIVER’S ANGEL would be sent for a short break in its preparation.
RACE 6 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
No racing incidents.
RACE 7 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 METRES 11 STARTERS
OUR OZBOY was a late scratching at 4:09pm when OUR OZBOY collided with the outside running rail on route to the barriers. OUR OZBOY suffered superficial injuries in this incident. Bookmakers were ordered draw a line and following correct weight deductions of ten cents the win and ten cents the place on all bets made above that line were imposed. Trainer John Petersen was issued with a warning concerning COOL JACK which reared and dislodged Apprentice T Maeda behind the barriers on two occasions. BALDOVAN BOY was slow to begin. Trainer D Bannister was issued with a warning concerning the pre race behaviour of FALLACY which was extremely fractious in the saddling enclosure. Jockey M Gray (HIGH TRUMPS) was fined $100 in relation to his conduct after being dislodged from HIGH TRUMPS on returning to scale. AR8(b).
RACE 8 OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES 8 STARTERS
ONSLOW was slow into stride. Making the home turn COOL AND REGAL and BENTLEY BAY buffeted for some distance. An Inquiry was held on the reason for INNUENDO being checked approaching the 150 metre mark on attempting the run between PROFLIGATE and BENTLEY BAY. After taking evidence from all riders it was established that BENTLEY BAY had shifted out marginally and PROFLIGATE had simultaneously shifted in which resulted in a tightening to INNUENDO, whilst Jockey J Cairns (BENTLEY BAY) and R Ryan (PROFLIGATE) could not be held totally to blame for the incident both riders were none the less severely reprimanded and advised to keep their mounts straight in similar circumstances. STARTWIST which compounded over the concluding stages was inspected by the club veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding had pulled up extremely lame in the nearside foreleg.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
