TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURSDAY 12/12/02

STEWARDS PANEL:-W BETHEL(Chairman), R DOYLE, C BIRD, WAL ABELL, R SMITH.

WEATHER –FINE TRACK:-FAST RAIL –Out to 4.5 m from 900metres to 300 metres.

RACE 1:.2YO HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

Jockey A Cox was unable to fully test MYSTERY NOTE over the concluding stages when that colt was inclined to lay inward under pressure. Jockey P Cullen was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mount TAY EXPRESS which shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. DESERT CROWN was lame in the off fore leg on returning to scale and received lacerations to the off hind leg during running. A Veterinary clearance will be required before racing.

RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

MALIFICENT was slow into stride and was hampered slightly by DONKHAL which jumped awkwardly.

RACE 3: QUALITY HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

SUPER SNOOP baulked slightly at paper which was blown onto the track near the 300 metre mark.

RACE 4: CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1630 Metres

When attempting to improve near the 1400 metre mark, IMTENT had to be eased off the heels of BOLD CENTAUR when the pace slowed. SMYTZER’S OFFICER was disappointed for a run inside the 200 metre mark. MISREAL was also disappointed for a clear run to the inside of EIRIE RETREAT. When attempting to obtain a clear run, Jockey A Molino shifted MISREAL out interfering with the running of IMTENT when not clear, resulting in that Gelding having to check severely. Jockey A Molino was charged and found Guilty of contravening AR 137 (a) with Careless Riding and suspended from riding in races from midnight 14/12/02 up to and including 26/12/02 (3 meetings).

RACE 5: CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000 Metres

SNAPPY BOOTS was inclined to shift inward over the concluding stages. PUNCHINELLA was found to have bled from both nostrils during running and prohibited from racing for 3 months (AR 53A). Trainer M Crouch was fined $50 under terms of LR83.

RACE 6 – 3YO CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1300 Metres

AL FRISKY was slow into stride and then hampered when SOLOMEIO jumped outward. Jockey A Cox was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in just after the start and hamper the running of ROMAN CHARIOT. As riders were unavailable, an Inquiry will be held at a time and place to be determined, into an incident near the 950 metre mark, where ANNA DE JULES appeared to be in some difficulty. After being cautioned earlier in the day over a similar matter, Jockey P Cullen was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out over the concluding stages and hamper the running of VEELA. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that SUGAR SHAKER pulled up distressed after the race.

RACE 7: CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

When the start was effected DEVIL’S DEN jumped inward taking LUK KAI LUK in onto FUTURE ROAD. At the same time EDGEWANA shifted outward taking BRILLIANCE out onto FUTURE ROAD which had to check. D Crossland was reprimanded for allowing EDGEWANA to shift in near the 600 metre mark when not clear of DEVIL’S DEN, resulting in the rider of that Gelding having to take hold momentarily. BRILLIANCE was found to have bled from both nostrils during the race. As this was a second attack, the gelding is ineligible to start in future races (AR 53A (5) ).

RACE 8 CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

GRANTON was hampered at the start when JABBA THE HUTT jumped inward and AZTEC COPPER jumped outward. LITTLE BULLA SPUR was unable to obtain a clear run until the 100 metre mark. Trainer P Mullins was fined $50 under therms of AR 59A

GENERAL: Jockey J Cairns reported that he was indisposed and was unable to fulfil his riding obligations. A Medical Certificate will be required.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED. As were BRILLIANCE & PUNCHINELLA.
