TOWNSVILLE TURF CLUB ___STEWARDS REPORT FRIDAY 8/08/03

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD
GENERAL:
Trainer O. Cullen was fined $100 under A.R. 114(a) for failing to scratch PLUMS from Race 3 at the Townsville Turf Club meeting on Friday 18th July 2003 by the prescribed time.
RACE 1: CLASS 2 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1300 METRES - 10 STARTERS
Stewards considered an objection lodged by S. Campton, the rider of JIBENA which finished fourth, against SEFOKEELA (S. Simon) being declared second, alleging interference over the final 75 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, and taking into account the stewards' observations and the official video films, stewards dismissed the protest and confirmed the judge's placings.
Near the 200 metres HANNAH'S GOLD (Apprentice L. Abbott) shifted inwards, obliging Apprentice Abbott to stop riding momentarily.
J. Stopps (MEAND) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (A.R. 137(a)) in that at the 50 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of JIBENA (S. Campton), which had to be checked and lost its position. J. Stopps was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight 9th August 2003, up to and including 22nd August 2003 (3 NQ meetings).
Jockey W. Kenning was questioned about the performance of SILK SURAH. The inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
RACE 2: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1300 METRES - 10 STARTERS
Throughout the event LOVE LESSONS (A. Cox) raced wide.
At about the 1000 metres SURE AS (S. Campton) commenced to overrace, resulting in CREDIT LIMIT (J. Stopps) being carried out and having to be restrained from the heels of FINAL STORM (G. Kliese).
RACE 3: MAIDEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 14 STARTERS
S. Simon was fined $50 under L.R. 51(1) for accepting the ride on AMARZI when he had already been declared as the rider of SEAVIEW LASS.
As the start was effected SEAVIEW LASS (S. Simon) shifted outwards, taking ROYAL PUNCH (D. Crossland) out, which in turn resulted in OSHABERI (J. Stopps) having to be restrained. S. Simon was severely admonished and advised that in future he would be expected to show more care and endeavour to protect other riders.
I. Toward (AMARZI) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at the 650 metres and dictate the running of SEAVIEW LASS (S. Simon).
After the running of this race Jockey S. Campton became indisposed and was stood down from fulfilling his remaining engagements.
RACE 4: CLASS 3 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1000 METRES - 10 STARTERS
G. Michaels was substituted for S. Campton as the rider of MYOPIA.
D. Crossland (HURRICANE VIC) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at the 500 metres and inconvenience MYOPIA (G. Michaels).
Jockey S. Simon reported that the breast plate on ROYAL SUCCESSOR broke in running, placing him in considerable difficulty in riding his mount out.
RACE 5: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 11 STARTERS
A. Cox was substituted for S. Campton as the rider of PRINCE EAGLE.
Stewards will open an inquiry into the reason for Jockey L. Critoph being dislodged from BEAVER LAKE and Jockey J. Stopps being dislodged from IRGUN COWBOY near the 1000 metres. KAYO CURLEY (A. Molino) and COUNTRY ROADS (Apprentice L. Buckingham), which were travelling behind the fallen runners, were inconvenienced in the incident.
RACE 6: CLASS 6 HANDICAP - ABOUT 1630 METRES - 11 STARTERS
As J. Stopps was indisposed, G. Michaels was substituted as the rider of EXPLAIN.
At the 1300 metres EXPLAIN (G. Michaels) had to shift in and away from the heels of WANDDINI (M. Elliott), which laid in throughout the event.
A. Molino (THE OUTBACK RAT) was admonished for permitting his mount to shift out at the 250 metres and inconvenience PACKSYND (S. Simon).
RACE 7: OPEN HANDICAP - 1200 METRES - 14 STARTERS
When S. Watkin, the declared rider for WHEELAWAY, failed to arrive on course, R. Mules was substituted.
Approaching the 850 metres MISTER OBLIGING (A. Merritt) had to be steadied and shifted out when tightened by runners on its inside and outside, resulting in STARNOTION (D. Crossland) and PRIOR PLANNING (J. Felix) being checked.
In the middle stages ROMBERG (C. Murphy) brushed the running rail. C. Murphy advised stewards that the mare had raced ungenerously throughout the event.
RACE 8: MAIDEN HANDICAP - ABOUT 1200 METRES - 14 STARTERS
A. Merritt was substituted for S. Watkin as the rider of LIGHTS. A. Cox was substituted for S. Campton a the rider of ZING GAL. S. Morris was substituted for L. Critoph as the rider of COMMANCHE KING, as L. Critoph had been transported to hospital for further medical treatment.
INVERDON was slow to get into stride.
At approximately the 1000 metres EXALTER (I. Toward) was steadied to take up a position in the field, shifted in and hampered PLUMS (S. Simon). I. Toward was advised to show more care in future.
P. Cullen reported that BLEIGHSBOY hung out from the home turn to the winning post.
Rounding the home turn FORESTS (G. Michaels) was unable to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages MY COAT (R. Mules) compounded badly and finished distanced. Stewards ordered that a precautionary analytical sample be taken from MY COAT.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
