Just prior to the winning post the riderless horse SIGNORA CICOLA shifted inwards and tightened the running of FRISKY SPRINGS (App L Abbott) in onto WISE UP (A Merritt) which had to be restrained. At approximately the 800 metre mark FRISKY SPRINGS (App L Abbott) shied inwards away from JESTAWAY (D Craven) which resulted in TRICKY DICKY (R Mules) having to be restrained and lose its position. Stewards recorded the matter as such and took no further action. At approximately the 750 metre mark Stewards inquired into the reason why HULA RULES (P Hammersley lost its position in the race. After taking evidence it was established by the Stewards that FRISKY SPRINGS (App L Abbott) had shifted inwards at the same time as WISE UP (App A Merritt) had shifted outwards which took LITTLE AWESOME (P Cullen) outwards onto HULA RULES (P Hammersley). Stewards acknowledged that no one rider was to blame for the incident and advised App Abbott to show more care in the future. On leaving the 750 metre mark Stewards inquired into the reason why LITTLE AWESOME (P Cullen) was checked and lost its position. After taking evidence from the riders involved, it was established that WISE UP (A Merritt) had shifted ground at this stage taking the running of LITTLE AWESOME resulting in that horse having to be checked. It was acknowledged that WISE UP was hanging at this stage, however, Stewards did advise Jockey Merritt to make every attempt to prevent his horse from shifting ground in simular circumstances.
