BRIGHTAZZ (D. Crossland) and A’SQUADRO (J. Long) came together at the start.
Approaching the 850 metres VICTORY BEAU (I. Toward) baulked at the heels of COOL ALLEY (D. Evans) and became awkward.
At the entrance to the straight PROMISING PRINCESS (M. Elliott) became unbalanced and over-reacted to being corrected.
At about the 100 metres J. Long, the rider of A’SQUADRO, accidentally dropped his whip.
When questioned Mr Sharp, representing trainer Mr R. Bradshaw, was unable to offer any explanation for the apparent improved performance of MISS KINGARYN, which was having its first start following a spell.
Race 3: Ladies In League Class 4 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - SHIVER OF GOLD 2nd - EMMABEE 3rd - CORPORATE EDGE 4th – REAL ASSET
Jockey A. Cox was questioned as to the reason he accepted the engagements on both CORPORATE EDGE and THE SWEDISH CHEF. Stewards noted that there were mitigating circumstances, nevertheless A. Cox was reprimanded under A. R. 175(k) for accepting dual engagements and advised that a similar breach of the Rule may result in more severe action being taken. D. Crossland was substituted as the rider of CORPORATE EDGE.
During its preliminary FLUFFIES REEF kicked out and contacted jockey D. Evans. Jockey Evans was examined by the on-course ambulance officers and passed fit to fulfil its engagement. FLUFFIES REEF was then reluctant to go to the barriers. Trainer Mr D. Crouch was advised that a warning had been placed on the horse’s behaviour and that a similar performance may result in more severe action being taken. A post-race veterinary examination of FLUFFIES REEF revealed that the horse was lame in the off hind leg. Stewards ordered that an analytical sample be taken from FLUFFIES REEF.
After being placed in the barriers THE SWEDISH CHEF (A. Cox) broke through, was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On jumping STEEL ‘N’ VET (I. Toward) made contact with SNIPONAIR (S. Watkin).
At the start SHIVER OF GOLD (J. P. Stanley) shifted in and bumped ELASTICITY (Apprentice C. Pay).
In the early stages ELASTICITY (Apprentice C. Pay) refused to settle.
At about the 1000 metres REAL ASSET (D. Lloyd) raced up onto the heels of ELASTICITY (Apprentice C. Pay) and got its head up.

In the early and middle stages TATANKA (M. Elliott) overraced.
At the 200 metres FLYING WOODPECKER (Apprentice C. Pay) shifted in under pressure and badly inconvenienced FORGOT (P. Cullen). SANLUCAR (D. Evans), which was following, was shifted out to avoid the heels of FORGOT and in doing so hampered WILL TO ENDURE (D. Crossland). Apprentice Pay was admonished and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten sooner than he had on this occasion. D. Evans was advised to exercise more care.
When asked about the disappointing performance of WILL TO ENDURE Jockey D. Crossland explained that as the gates opened the gelding reared and lost ground. He said that in the middle stages he was reluctant to take the horse wider on the track and that in the straight WILL TO ENDURE, which was hanging in, had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Race 6: Jupiters Winter Cup - 2100 metres
1st - SETO STAR 2nd - TARRASCH 3rd - LINDY’S GROOM 4th - SUNACLANG
When questioned Jockey D. Crossland could offer no tangible reason for the disappointing performance of LAZZAZ.
In the early and middle stages TARRASCH (M. Elliott) and REVOLVE AROUND HIM (D. Lloyd) overraced.
Approaching the 100 metres MAGRITTE (D. Evans) was disappointed for clear running and had to be steadied away from the heels of QUESTWIN (I. Toward).
