Race 2: Yalumba Wines Maiden Handicap - 1000m
1st – KUAI/SIRCAY (DH) 2nd – 3rd – STEEL QUEEN 4th – BODEREK

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Apprentice P. Edwards and trainer Mr D. Bannister to view the official video film of the start with a view to applying to have stewards determine whether HATZIPANAGI was denied a fair start. After viewing the video film, the connections decided not to proceed with any application.

HATZIPANAGI (Apprentice P. Edwards) reared as the gates opened and lost ground and then in the home straight laid out and raced wide.

At the start BODEREK (L. Morrison) shifted out and bumped SHIVAN DRAGON (F. Edwards).

On jumping SIRCAY (I. Toward) and SHUGO (S. Watkin) came together.

In the early stages SHUGO (S. Watkin) raced ungenerously.

Apprentice R. Plumb, the rider of HARD DRIVIN’ MAMA, dropped his whip at the 250 metres.

As the start was effected ARMIDAN and LUNAROC (S. Watkin) brushed.

In the early stages LUNAROC (S. Watkin) over-raced.

In the early and middle stages BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley) raced wide.

At about the 600 metres MR PICKWICK (N. Day) shifted out slightly, taking LUNAROC (S. Watkin) wider.

At the 450 metres EAGLE HEIGHTS (A. Cox) had to ease to avoid the heels of LUNAROC (S. Watkin), which shifted in when not quite clear.

Leaving the 400 metres MULLETT (I. Toward), which was over-racing, had to be eased to avoid the heels of MR PICKWICK (N. Day).

Approaching the 150 metres MR PICKWICK (N. Day), which had been held up for clear running, shifted out to improve and took the running of LUNAROC (S. Watkin), which was checked and lost its position. Jockey N. Day was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.

Race 6: North Queensland Amateurs 25&26 August Class 5 Handicap – 1630m
1st – SILVER TUSK 2nd – WINAQUA 3rd – IMPUNITY 4th – EMMBOWEN

In the early and middle stages VIKING GROOM (W. Kenning) raced wide.

Approaching the 900 metres IMPUNITY (P. Cullen) was steadied and lost ground when obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of KINGS CORONATION (N. Day), which in turn was tightened for room to the inside of VIKING GROOM (W. Kenning).

Rounding the home turn WINAQUA (G. Kliese), which was held up and unable to obtain clear running, was eased to avoid the heels of EMMBOWEN (Apprentice R. Plumb).

At about the 80 metres IMPUNITY (P. Cullen) shifted in and inconvenienced KINGS CORONATION (N. Day), then continued to shift in and crowded EMMBOWEN (Apprentice R. Plumb). Jockey P. Cullen was advised that in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.

1st – SPACE DREAM 2nd – AT THE SUMMIT 3rd – HAIYAKU 4th – NORTHERN COMMANDER

Jockey I. Toward replaced D. Crossland as the rider of ARCHIE. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr R. Chillemi that prior to the declaration of riders Jockey D. Crossland had advised that he would be unable to fulfil his engagement on ARCHIE.

Trainer Mr J. Doherty advised stewards that, if possible, it was intended to have HONOUR YOUR LADY (P. Cullen) ridden back in the field in the early stages.
The necessary announcements were made over the public address system. Following the race Jockey P. Cullen advised stewards that because of the way the race was run in the early stages, he had been unable to comply with the instructions.

On jumping HAIYAKU (Apprentice T. Bannon) was tightened for room between ARCHIE (I. Toward), which shifted out, and NORTHERN COMMANDER (Apprentice R. Plumb), which shifted in.

At the 900 metres HONOUR YOUR LADY (P. Cullen) had to be eased when tightened for room to the inside of AT THE SUMMIT (Apprentice C. Pay), which shifted in when not quite clear. Apprentice C. Pay was given the benefit of a grave doubt as to whether he should be charged with careless riding. Nevertheless, he was advised that similar riding may lead to action being taken against him.

At about the 700 metres PERUGINO ROSE (J. Stopps) stepped outwards and inconvenienced HONOUR YOUR LADY (P. Cullen), which was taken out onto ARCHIE (I. Toward), which was racing ungenerously.

On several occasions near the 600 metres GUM SCRUB (Apprentice P. Edwards) became unbalanced and struck the running rail and shifted out slightly, resulting in WHINEWOMEN’N’SONG (L. ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
