GENERAL:
Pre-race blood samples were taken at random from 12 horses, and urine samples were taken from 8 riders selected randomly.
Race 1: Peter Mitchell’s ABC Northern Grandstand QTIS 3-Year-Old Maiden Handicap – 1200m
1st – EXCELLENT LOVER 2nd – EYE MAX 3rd – CAPITAL FLOW 4th – VITA NOVA
Trainer Mr E. Chillemi and Jockey C. Whiteley were questioned as to the reason for Jockey Whiteley, who had been declared as the rider of ESQUIVE, being declared as the rider of MOET DIVA. Stewards advised Mr Chillemi that in future he must obtain a firm commitment from riders before declaring them.
The start of the race was delayed when the ambulance was late arriving on course.
VITA NOVA (J. Felix) was reluctant to load into the barriers and then began awkwardly. Trainer Mr J. Fogarty was advised that the gelding would be given one more chance, provided that at its next start VITA NOVA is loaded first without difficulty.
From near the 1150 metres until the 1050 metres JULUKA (Apprentice R. Plumb) and CAPITAL FLOW (N. Day) came together on several occasions.
Approaching the 1000 metres CAPITAL FLOW (N. Day) shifted in and crowded JULUKA (Apprentice R. Plumb), which then over-raced between the 1000 metres and the 800 metres.
Jockey P. Cullen reported that MOET DIVA hung out from the 900 metres to the 400 metres.
Following the race Apprentice R. Plumb reported that JULUKA hung out badly between the 800 metres and the 400 metres.
Race 2: Roy Chillemi Premier Trainer 05/06 Class 6 Plate – 1200m
1st – PAWIE 2nd – PRINCE OF STEEL 3rd – SPECIALLY MADE 4th – FELLINO
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of FELLINO which finished fourth, to view the photo finish film.
HAIYAKU (S. Watkin) began awkwardly.
In the early stages HAIYAKU (S. Watkin) hung in and joining the course proper near the 900 metres had to be steadied.
Race 3: Harro On 102.3 4TOFM Maiden Handicap - 1400m
1st – SHOOT FIRST 2nd – CUPBEARER 3rd – BELL PARTNERS 4th – MR ROMANELLI
Apprentice P. D’Addona, the declared rider for KAPABENI, pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 92(12) for failing to claim down to her full allowance. Apprentice D’Addona was fined $50.
After being placed in the barriers KAPABENI broke through, dislodging its rider, Apprentice P. D’Addona. KAPABENI was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 2.18 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on KAPABENI be refunded in full and that all successful bets with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 2¢, place 2¢. Trainer Mr G. Sewell was advised that KAPABENI was barred from racing until it performs to the satisfaction of the stewards in two barrier tests. Apprentice D’Addona was examined by the medical officers and stood down from her further engagements.
MR ROMANELLI (G. Kliese) and CUPBEARER (N. Day) bumped on jumping.
At the start LEICA BEACH GIRL (P. Cullen) shifted out and bumped ZOEKYEM (J. Felix).
In the early stages BLACK WATTLE (S. Watkin) over-raced.
Shortly after the start STRUTTER’S BALL (F. Edwards) hung out placing BLACK WATTLE (S. Watkin) and LEICA BEACH GIRL (P. Cullen) in restricted room and resulting in those two horses being inconvenienced. In the incident ZOEKYEM (J. Felix) was taken out onto the hindquarters of SHOOT FIRST (C. Whiteley) and obliged to race in restricted room.
Over the concluding stages STRUTTER’S BALL (F. Edwards) hung out under pressure.
Jockey C. Whiteley, the rider of RIPATRICE, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the finish.
Race 4: Graham Kliese Premier Jockey 05/06 Class 4 Handicap – 1400m
1st – EMMBOWEN 2nd – LLAMA LIP 3rd – CAVALIER APPROACH 4th – WOODIDIERE
On jumping MR JACOBS (Apprentice T. Bannon) shifted in and tightened LOOKALANI (F. Edwards) in onto BLAZING ARROW (Apprentice S. Kaya).
In the early stages ANNIE LUCK (J. Felix) raced wide.
At the 650 metres EMMBOWEN (Apprentice R. Plumb) shifted in and crowded CITY PADRE (G. Kliese), which had to be steadied.
Race 5: Ryan Plumb Premier Apprentice 05/06 Class 3 Handicap – 1000m
1st – OUR GEORGIA ROSE 2nd – YOU’RE SO DANE 3rd – MULLETT 4th – NAVEED
Trainer Ms C. Williams was fined $50 under L.R. 42(2) for failing to lodge a stable return showing the correct ownership details for HURRICANE VIC.
When Apprentice P. D’Addona was indisposed, Apprentice S. Kaya was substituted as the rider of OUR GEORGIA ROSE.
At the start NAVEED (C. Whiteley) shifted out and bumped BELLA GRACE (J. Felix).
In the early and middle stages NAVEED (C. Whiteley) hung out and over the final 400 metres continued to hang out badly, placing Jockey Whiteley in difficulty in riding his mount out.
Race 6: Wednesday Racing @ Cluden Park 04 Oct Class 1 Plate – 1000m
1st – SPACELY 2nd – SIR TOFF 3rd – ON A PRAYER 4th – SHUFTA GOULLA
When Apprentice P. D’Addona was indisposed and no other apprentice rider was available, permission was given for F. Edwards to be substituted as the rider of VICTORY BEAU.
Mr T. Simpson, the trainer of STRICTLY A DANGER, was reminded of his obligation under L.R. 83(b) to present horses in the saddling enclosure by the prescribed time.
When the start was effected GOBBLEDEGOOK (D. Green) stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr N. Davies was advised that the mare must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.
ARENCIELLE (P. Cullen) and STRICTLY A DANGER (Apprentice S. Kaya) came together at the start.
At about the 700 metres SIR TOFF (N. Day) shifted in and bumped OLD KILMORE (A. Cox), which became unbalanced.
Rounding the home turn SHUFTA GOULLA (Apprentice C. McCallum) raced ungenerously and then hung out in the straight.
For the entire length of the straight WOTZ FONG (C. Whiteley) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages DON’T TELL THE WIFE (Apprentice T. Bannon) shifted in and momentarily crowded L’UNICA DONNA (S. Watkin). Apprentice Bannon was advised to exercise more care.
Race 7: Hedley Group Open Handicap – 1400m
1st – SPURIOUS 2nd – RIVER HUNTER 3rd – RELOADED 4th –
Mr J. Robbins, the trainer of SHUFTA GOULLA, was reminded of his obligation under L.R. 83(b) to present horses in the saddling enclosure by the prescribed time.
LUX (J. Stopps) jumped out at the start.
Near the 950 metres KENWOOD ALLEGRO (F. Edwards) was steadied from the heels of RIVER HUNTER (N. Day), which shifted in. Jockey N. Day was admonished and advised to show more care.
Race 8: Thank You TTC Committee Class 2 Handicap – 1630m
1st – ZERO TO HERO 2nd – SIR PHOENIX 3rd – SHINKANSEN EXPRESS 4th – CLARENCE PEAK
As Jockey G. Kliese was to be overweight, J. Stopps was substituted as the rider of CHIEF DANCER. G. Kliese was fined $100 under A. R. 120(b).
After being placed in the barriers BELALDA (J. Felix) became fractious and reared.
Near the 1400 metres ZERO TO HERO (A. Cox) struck the running rail.
