As Jockey D. Crossland was indisposed, the following substitutions were made: Race 2, PERSPICUITY, C. Whiteley; Race 5, CRAFTY’S BROTHER, C. Whiteley; Race 7, GALWAY GREY, N. Day.

Race 1: Ambassador Travel Melbourne Cup Tour 06 Class 2 Handicap – 1400m
1st – HELLBOY 2nd – BARRON HUNTER 3rd – OFF THE LIST 4th – SPEEDY AFFAIR

On jumping BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley) shifted out onto HELLBOY (N. Day), which in turn shifted out and crowded OFF THE LIST (I. Toward).

Shortly after the start HELLBOY (N. Day) became momentarily unbalanced.

In the early and middle stages BELALDA (J. Felix) raced ungenerously and threw its head about.

For some distance near the 850 metres HELLBOY (N. Day) had a tendency to hang in.

When questioned about his riding of HELLBOY over the concluding stages, Jockey N. Day explained that in the straight his mount was inclined to shift in and crowd BARRON HUNTER (C. Whiteley) and therefore he stopped riding HELLBOY with the whip and endeavoured to keep the gelding straight. Jockey Day was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out, at least hands and heels, right to the finish.

Race 2: Racing @Cluden Park Melbourne Cup Day Maiden Plate – 1630m
1st – BELL PARTNERS 2nd – MEDOWIE VAMPIRE 3rd – ZOEKYEM 4th – STRUTTER’S BALL

Jockey J. Felix reported that STRUTTER’S BALL knuckled on jumping.

In the early and middle stages ZOEKYEM (Apprentice R. Plumb) raced wide and was inclined to over-race.

From about the 1450 metres until the 1200 metres STRUTTER’S BALL (J. Felix) hung out.

In the straight WACCA (Apprentice T. Bannon) was unable to obtain clear running.

After straightening for home POUND FOR POUND (N. Day) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

When asked about the performance of WACCA Apprentice T. Bannon explained that the gelding slackened pace between the 600 metres and the 700 metres, as it had done at its most recent start. She said, however, that in the straight WACCA was disappointed for a run to the inside of VITA NOVA (F. Edwards) and thereafter was held up and unable to obtain clear running, placing her at a disadvantage in riding her mount out to the finish.

When questioned about the poor run of PERSPICUITY, Jockey C. Whiteley said that the gelding raced well until leaving the 900 metres but when put under pressure while racing to the inside of VITA NOVA (F. Edwards) failed to run on and was disappointing. He added that in his opinion PERSPICUITY was not suited by the extra distance of today’s event.

Race 3: West Coast Eagles 2006 AFL Premiers Class 4 Handicap - 1630m
1st – LLAMA LIP 2nd – SIR PHOENIX 3rd – CAVALIER APPROACH 4th – RIPATRICE

From the 800 metres until near the 400 metres BALLINSPITTLE (J. Dickinson) raced erratically and refused to settle.

Approaching the 300 metres SILVER TUSK (J. Stopps) shifted out to improve and inconvenienced FREMANTLE DOCTOR (J. Felix), which had to be steadied. Jockey J. Stopps was cautioned and advised that similar riding in future will not be tolerated.

Race 4: Freestone Valley View Stud QTIS Handicap – 1000m
1st – EYE MAX 2nd – TRUE STORY 3rd – MISTER LAURIE 4th – HARDLY A GAME

THINGYMEBOB (J. Stopps) and BRONZE QUEEN (W. Kenning) were slow to begin.

CENTCHAR (P. Cullen) jumped outwards at the start.
In the middle stages TRUE STORY (J. Felix) laid out.

Joining the course proper near the 850 metres MISS KNOWLEDGE (G. Cullen) shifted out slightly and bumped HARDLY A GAME (Apprentice R. Plumb). Shortly after this incident CENTCHAR (P. Cullen) shifted in, placing HARDLY A GAME in restricted room, and MISS KNOWLEDGE (G. Cullen), which was racing ungenerously, shifted out marginally, resulting in HARDLY A GAME being inconvenienced and having to be steadied.

Race 5: Brisbane Broncos 2006 NRL Premiers Class 5 Handicap – 1000m
1st – OUR GEORGIA ROSE 2nd – INTO THE TREES 3rd – PEACEFUL MISSILE 4th – CHASIN’ SHEILAS

When the gates opened CHAIN OF THOUGHT (F. Edwards) bounded in the air, began awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

At the start CRAFTY’S BROTHER (C. Whiteley) shifted out and severely inconvenienced POWER EXPRESS (P. Cullen).

Approaching the 800 metres LAUDERDALE LORD (M. Cullen) shifted in and hampered INTO THE TREES (I. Toward). Jockey M. Cullen was advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts straight.

At the 800 metres POWER EXPRESS (P. Cullen), which was over-racing close to the heels of CRAFTY’S BROTHER (C. Whiteley), stepped out and bumped the hindquarters of BOLD SWEEPER (G. Kliese), which was turned in and then shifted in and bumped POWER EXPRESS.

Following the race Jockey C. Whiteley reported that CRAFTY’S BROTHER was reluctant to race inside other runners and at about the 500 metres hung out across the heels of LAUDERDALE LORD (M. Cullen) and again leaving the 100 metres shifted out abruptly from inside another runner. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAFTY’S BROTHER did not reveal any abnormality.

Race 6: www.ambassadortravel.com.au Class 1 Handicap – 1200m
1st – SHUFTA GOULLA 2nd – SWEEP ON BY 3rd – MR PICKWICK 4th –LOOK LEFT

Trainer Ms C. Williams was fined $100 under A. R. 175(k) for negligently declaring Apprentice S. Kaya as the rider of SWEEP ON BY without first obtaining the permission of Apprentice Kaya’s master. D. Evans was substituted.

On jumping MEDOWIE STORM (L. Critoph) shifted in and bumped TWO DOGS (J. Stopps).

TAX BREAK (I. Toward) began awkwardly.

At the start UNPARTED (C. Whiteley) shifted in and bumped SHUFTA GOULLA (P. Cullen) and when straightened by its rider shifted out, taking TOKOLOSH (F. Edwards) out onto PRINCESS GABRIELE (G. Kliese), which in turn was taken out onto LOOK LEFT (J. Felix).

Between the 600 metres and the 400 metres MIND PLAYER (Apprentice R. Plumb) was unable to obtain clear running and was restrained away from the heels of the leaders. Then over the concluding stages MIND PLAYER compounded badly. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any obvious abnormality.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of UNPARTED, Jockey C. Whiteley explained that the gelding had hung out badly throughout the event and that near the 800 metres he was taken wide. He added that on pulling up it was noted that the bit had pulled through the horse’s mouth.

Race 7: C Bar Café Townsville Weight For Age – 1200m
1st – SLICKI SCORE 2nd – RELOADED 3rd – STAR OF THE GALAXY 4th – STRICTLY SMART

Race 8: Jupiters Hotel & Casino Class 3 Handicap – 1200m
1st – SERIOUS HERO 2nd – NORTHERN COMMANDER/DEMOLITION (DH) 4th – LOVE THE VIEW

ESTELITO (N. Day) and TWO TO CLANGO (W. Kenning) came together at the start.

Approaching the 600 metres TWO TO CLANGO (W. Kenning), which was over-racing, had to be eased to avoid the heels of HARDCORE (D. Evans).

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
