1st – SPLENDOROUS 2nd – CAPITAL FLOW 3rd – ÉCLAIR FILANTE 4th – DEMOS

Acting on veterinary advice that FREESIA sustained an injury to its offside hind leg in the float en route to the course and was unfit to race, stewards ordered the withdrawal of the filly at 11.45 a.m. As betting had not commenced, no deductions were required.

When Apprentice T. Bannon was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time due to transport difficulties, Apprentice S. Kaya was substituted as the rider of CLANG STAR.

On jumping FLASH HANDOUT (F. Edwards) shifted in and bumped SEA DALE (J. Stopps).

SEA SNIP (G. Cullen) reared as the start was effected and began awkwardly.

Soon after the start SPLENDOROUS (C. Whiteley) shifted in and hampered SEA SNIP (G. Cullen).

At about the 650 metres SEA DALE (J. Stopps), which was having its first race start, commenced to race greenly and at the 450 metres stepped in and bumped heavily with SEA SNIP (G. Cullen). SEA DALE then continued to race ungenerously thereafter.

At about the 300 metres SEA DALE (J. Stopps) shifted out, resulting in STEEL QUEEN (I. Fry) having to be momentarily eased.

Approaching the 250 metres SILVERY BELL (G. Kliese) laid out onto the heels of PHOTOMETRY (N. Day) and had to be restrained.

At the 250 metres DEMOS (P. Cullen), which was inclined to lay in from the 450 metres, laid in onto the heels of PHOTOMETRY (N. Day) and when corrected over-raced and shifted out very abruptly.

Following the race Apprentice P. Edwards reported that BURMARRAD failed to handle today’s track conditions.

Race 2: Wheel Of Wealth Class 6 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – HOTELIER 2nd – DOMINATE KING 3rd – BACK OF HOUSE 4th – HEDZ

HEDZ (C. Whiteley) reared at the start and began awkwardly.

In the early stages BRIEF ALLIANCE (G. Kliese) hung in and near the 850 metres had to be restrained away from the heels of BACK OF HOUSE (N. Day). BRIEF ALLIANCE then commenced to over-race.

At the 900 metres SENSATIONAL TIME (Apprentice S. Kaya) had to be momentarily eased when crowded for room by DOMINATE KING (I. Fry), which shifted out to obtain a run in the better going. A post-race veterinary examination of SENSATIONAL TIME revealed that the gelding had sustained contusion of the off foreleg.

After riding LOVE YOUR WAYS in this race, Jockey P. Cullen was relieved of his engagements for the remainder of the day.

Race 3: Frantic Fridays Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – ANNACRISTI 2nd – KUAI 3rd – LIDIANA 4th – GOLDMORE

Prior to the running of this race, following continued rain, stewards carried out a track inspection and, after conferring with riders, decided to continue the meeting.

Jockey J. Felix replaced Jockey P. Cullen as the rider of FINAL SCORE.

Near the 200 metres ANNACRISTI (I. Toward) became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly, resulting in GOLDMORE (G. Kliese) being taken wider. Jockey I. Toward was reminded of his obligation to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

Following the race the veterinary surgeon reported that ANNACRISTI had bled from both nostrils. Acting under A.R. 53A stewards advised connections that the mare was barred for a period of three months.

Race 4: Golden Reef QTIS 2-Year-Old Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – PUBZ 2nd – BERRIGAN BABY 3rd – MASTARA 4th – FIERY DIAMOND

Jockey F. Edwards replaced Jockey P. Cullen as the rider of BERRIGAN BABY.

At the start BERRIGAN (I. Fry) began awkwardly, shifted in and brushed FIERY DIAMOND (L. Morrison).

IVOR DANE (J. Stopps) was slow to begin, and raced very ungenerously for the first 100 metres.

Following the running of this race stewards carried out a further inspection of the track and decided to continue with the meeting. However, the track rating was downgraded from dead to slow.

Race 5: Cash Scratch Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – INNOCENT VERDICT 2nd – STAY TRUE 3rd – MIKE’S MAGIC 4th – SHENNA’S PRIDE

MIKE’S MAGIC (T. Pannell) shifted in at the start and made contact with INNOCENT VERDICT (C. Whiteley), then over-raced in the early and middle stages.

CORACLE BELLE (F. Edwards) began awkwardly.

On jumping SHENNA’S PRIDE (N. Day) shifted out and brushed EVIDENCE (I. Toward).

STAY TRUE (J. Felix) was slow to begin.

At approximately the 900 metres LA SCALA DIVA (D. Evans) commenced to race very ungenerously and at the 600 metres had to be steadied off the heels of EVIDENCE (I. Toward).

At the 600 metres LA SCALA DIVA (D. Evans) shifted out while hanging.

From the 900 metres SIR ASHLEY (Apprentice S. Kaya) commenced to race very ungenerously, then hung out from the 700 metres and at the 600 metres shifted out onto the heels of EVIDENCE (I. Toward) and had to be restrained.

Over the final 200 metres INNOCENT VERDICT (C. Whiteley) laid out under pressure.

Race 6: Lavaracks Bistro & Bar Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – WYOMING 2nd – BLACK WATTLE 3rd – WHYDINYA 4th – WINDY SHORE

Due to the state of the track, the distance of the race was reduced from 1630 metres to 1400 metres.

A further inspection of the track was made and stewards again decided that the meeting should continue.

Jockey D. Evans replaced Jockey P. Cullen as the rider of BLACK WATTLE.

At the start SPECKLES (J. Felix) shifted in and bumped OCEAN CROSSING (I. Toward).

Race 7: Money Run Class 5 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – HE WEARS THE CROWN 2nd – ON BAIL 3rd – WINAQUA 4th – ROAD TO PERSIA

Jockey I. Toward replaced Jockey P. Cullen as the rider of ROAD TO PERSIA.

At the start ON BAIL (N. Day) shifted out and hampered IMPUNITY (Apprentice P. Edwards) and then approaching the 1050 metres commenced to over-race, shifted outwards and inconvenienced HE WEARS THE CROWN (L. Morrison).

From the home turn to the 150 metres IMPUNITY (Apprentice P. Edwards) laid out resulting in BLAZING ARROW (J. Stopps) having to be eased at the 150 metres to avoid that horse’s heels.

Race 8: Townsville RSL North Qld Cup Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – SHOOT FIRST 2nd – MAMELUKE 3rd – SAM’S DREAM 4th - FLYING WOODPECKER

Due to the state of the track the distance of the race was reduced from 1630 metres to 1400 metres.

WILL TO ENDURE was a late scratching, at 3.22 p.m., due to the change in distance of the event.

Jockey M. Elliott replaced Jockey P. Cullen as the rider of PILLIGA.

As no suitable senior rider was available, permission was given for Apprentice T. Bannon to replace Jockey G. Cullen as the rider of GEOGRAPHICAL.

When no rider was available to ride SILVERSTEIN at its allotted weight, and because of the adverse effect of the inclement weather on riders’ gear, permission was given for Jockey F. Edwards to ride the gelding ½ kg overweight.

After being placed in the barriers REGAL PUNCH (D. Crossland) broke through, was quickly restrained, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

At the start SHOOT FIRST (T. Pannell) shifted in and bumped SILVERSTEIN (F. Edwards).

HAVANA WIND (Apprentice S. Kaya) began awkwardly and was slow to get into stride.
