Race 1: Rosemount Estate Australia Maiden Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – WITHOUTALOOK 2nd – SHEDIR 3rd – VOODOO RED MAGIC 4th – ROCKY REIGNS

CHAINGANG (Apprentice P. Edwards) began awkwardly and brushed MAL’S BOY (C. Eaton).

When the pace steadied approaching the 1000 metres SHOTGUN START (P. Cullen), which was racing ungenerously, and ZERZER (C. Whiteley) had to be eased off heels.

Race 2: AON Townsville Fillies and Mares Class 3 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – IN ABSENTIA 2nd – LEGAL JARGON 3rd – ROCK A LOT 4th – SIGRID

PALACE MINSTREL (C. Eaton) refused to load into the barriers. CAROLINA’S BELLE (L. Morrison), which was in the barrier adjacent to PALACE MINSTREL, became fractious, broke through the barriers and after being quickly restrained was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon, who said that the mare was unfit to start. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of PALACE MINSTREL and CAROLINA’S BELLE at 2.15 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on PALACE MINSTREL and CAROLINA’ BELLE be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 26¢, place 31¢. After taking evidence from Trainer Mr N. Schofield and Jockey C. Eaton, stewards ordered that PALACE MINSTREL must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a jump-out before being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of CAROLINA’S BELLE revealed that the mare had sustained a cut over the right eye and bruising to the hind legs. Trainer Mr G. Wehlow was informed that he must furnish a veterinary certificate of fitness before CAROLINA’S BELLE will be permitted to race again.

SIGRID (A. Cox) was slow to begin.

For some distance after the 1000 metres ROCK A LOT (C. Whiteley) hung out.

A post-race veterinary examination of SIGRID (A. Cox) revealed that the mare was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr G. Nelson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided before SIGRID will be permitted to race again.

Race 3: Landmark Ayr Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – SOVIET SUNDAE 2nd – FACE CARD 3rd – DESERT LIGHTNING 4th – GENERAL SPARK

SHAROPE DANCER (S. Watkin) was slow into stride.

Over the concluding stages GENERAL SPARK (I. Toward) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SOVIET SUNDAE (N. Day), which shifted in slightly.

Trainer Mr F. Wieland reported to the stewards that HEY CHEETAH was sore after returning to his stables. He was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to HEY CHEETAH being permitted to race again.

Race 4: SV Boat Charters QTIS Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – HIGHONRUM 2nd – LOVE YOUR WAYS 3rd – SOLIDIFIED 4th – SEANOFEAR

At the start MOTIVATED (I. Toward) shifted in and bumped POLITICAL SPIN (L. Morrison).

HIGHONRUM (C. Eaton) began awkwardly.

Near the 650 metres POLITICAL SPIN (L. Morrison) had to steady from the heels of MOTIVATED (I. Toward), which shifted in. Jockey I. Toward was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he had caused the incident, as stewards were of the opinion that MOTIVATED, which was racing intractably, may have contributed to it.

In the early part of the straight POLITICAL SPIN (L. Morrison) had to check when attempting a narrow run to the inside of MOTIVATED (I. Toward), which continued to race erratically and shifted in.

Jockey I. Toward was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of MOTIVATED (I. Toward). A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi undertook to notify the stewards should anything be amiss with MOTIVATED in the days following the race.

Race 5: Capricorn Yearling Sale 4 May Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – LAMP 2nd – ROY’S JOY 3rd – SHELF SPACE 4th – BLUSHOW

On jumping NOIAMIRISH (A. Cox) shifted in and made contact with KALAHARI PRINCE (N. Day), which was taken in and crowded LORD SOFFEL (I. Fry).

In the early stages ROY’S JOY (L. Morrison) over-raced.

In the middle stages KALAHARI PRINCE (N. Day) was inclined to over-race and got its head up.

Early in the event SHELF SPACE (C. Eaton) raced fiercely and was inclined to lay out, and near the 400 metres had to be steadied off heels.

For the major part of the straight SHOWING TERRIFIC (J. Stopps) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Race 6: Parry Nissen Weight for Age – 1200 metres
