GENERAL
Due to the section of the track in the vicinity of the 1000 metres start being unsuitable, stewards amended the distances of Races 1, 7 and 8 to 970 metres.
Trainer Mr P. Dwyer was fined a total of $200 under L.R. 70(1) for failing to declare I. Toward as the rider of SNIPPETY SNIP in Race 5, and T. Bannon as the rider of ROCKATTHECROC in Race 6, by the prescribed time.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for trainer Mr W. Pomfrett having in his possession a syringe and allegedly using such syringe in the race-day stalls prior to Race 5 when THE BIG EASY was being saddled for the purpose of racing. Following the race stewards ordered that swab samples be taken from THE BIG EASY. After hearing evidence from Mr Pomfrett and the Club’s veterinary surgeon, Dr Dowling, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to enable several tests to be carried out on items that were in the possession of Mr Pomfrett.
