SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

Townsville Race 4: 8January 2009 Class 4 Handicap 1630m:

Stewards reconvened an inquiry into an incident near the 1350 metres in which both PACIFIC OCEAN (S. Campton) and LAKEFUL (A. Spinks) had to be steadied when tightened for room by MADIFYOUDONT (T. Bannon) which shifted in away from ADADEMY BOY (I. Toward). As stewards were of the opinion that no individual rider was responsible for the incident, no direct action was taken. However, all riders were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Townsville 22nd January 2009

Stewards resumed an inquiry into the reason for Jockey I. Toward returning to scale more than half a kilogram overweight on BLISTERING MISS. Trainer O. Cairns pleaded guilty to a charge under A. R. 118 in that she changed the girth on the horse after Jockey Toward had weighed out. Trainer O. Cairns was fined $200. Stewards accepted the reason tendered by Jockey Toward for his being overweight.

Late Riding Changes:

When Jockey F. Edwards was indisposed the following substitutions were made: Race 1, Jockey J. Felix to ride MOCHA TART; Race 2, Jockey S. Spinks to ride BEAU REGIS; Race 4, Jockey to ride FLASH BANG; Race 5, Jockey to ride STAR TASSLES; Race Jockey 6, to ride DESERT BOY; Race 7, Jockey G. Cullen to ride FROG. Jockey F. Edwards will be required to provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

Race 1: RSD Plumbing Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – PUBZ A PLENTY 2nd – MALA MALA 3rd – MEGABOY 4th – DUCHENNE

HASTY DIAMOND (T. Bannon) blundered on jumping.

PEE BEE ARR (P. Cullen) and DIAMOND PROPHET (A. Spinks) bumped at the start.

On jumping LEGAL POSITION (D. Missen) was hampered when crowded for room between DUCHENNE (G. Kliese) and SHINING CHARM (C. Whiteley).

SARAHS HEART (G. Lemos) began awkwardly and shifted out.

Approaching the 800 metres MOCHA TART (J. Felix) became awkwardly placed inside PEE BEE ARR (P. Cullen) and struck the running rail.

In the early stages PUBZ A PLENTY (D. Crossland) over-raced and had to be restrained.

SARAHS HEART (G. Lemos) and SHINING CHARM (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 200 metres LEGAL POSITION (D. Missen) was held up and unable to obtain clear running, then approaching the 100 metres raced up onto the heels of DUCHENNE (G. Kliese), blundered and went to the line without being fully tested.

Jockey G. Cullen, the rider of SEXY SAXY, was reminded of his obligation under A.R. 137A regarding the use of the whip on a horse that is out of contention. A post-race veterinary examination of SEXY SAXY, which finished tailed off, revealed that the mare had an elevated respiratory rate, making an aspiratory noise and had small lacerations to the near hind cannon.

Race 2: Shady Sheds Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – FLYING SONG 2nd – ALBERT’S IMAGE 3rd – INSTIL 4th – ELVIS AARON

ZENTASTIC, which sustained an injury in the float en route to the course, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon. Acting on her advice that the mare had sustained lacerations and was lame in the off hind leg and off fore leg, stewards ordered the withdrawal of ZENTASTIC at 12.30 p.m.

Approaching the 700 metres INSTIL (T. Bannon), which was racing in restricted room, shifted out slightly and bumped the hindquarters of FLYING SONG (G. Cullen), which in turn shifted in slightly and further tightened the running of INSTIL, resulting in INSTIL having to be steadied.

Race 3: XXXX Gold Weight For Age - 1000 metres
1st – MINI VIEW 2nd – HIGHONRUM 3rd – STAR OF THE GALAXY 4th – JAZZOOM

There were no racing incidents.

Race 4: TTC 100 Club Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres

PUBZ BARON (D. Crossland) was slow to begin.

On jumping TUSCAN DREAM (C. Whiteley) and TAI FUNG (T. Bannon) brushed.

When no other suitable rider was available permission was given for Jockey I. Fry to ride STAR TASSLES half a kilogram overweight.

After being placed in the barriers IRON CHARGER (A. Spinks) broke through the gates, dislodging its rider and completed a circuit of the course. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of IRON CHARGER at 3.45 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on IRON CHARGER be refunded in full and that all successful bets with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the tickets: win 12¢, place 11¢.

In the early stages STAR TASSLES (I. Fry) over-raced.

Race 6: Capricorn Yearling Sale 19 April Class 6 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – TOMMY BOY 2nd – ROGERRAB 3rd – SILENT ECHO 4th – PACIFIC OCEAN

The start was delayed while, at the request of Jockey A Spinks, the veterinary surgeon examined PACIFIC OCEAN behind the barriers. The mare was passed fit to start.

EXPECTING (P. Cullen) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GLACIER (J. Felix).

Near the 1000 metres DESERT BOY (I. Toward) was momentarily steadied when EXPECTING (P. Cullen) shifted in.

When questioned about the handling of SILENT ECHO, in particular from the 450 metres to the winning post, Jockey D. Missen stated that he had been instructed to ride the gelding quietly early, as was its usual racing pattern. He added that accordingly he settled SILENT ECHO back in the field and approaching the 450 metres shifted in to take a run to the outside of AZZASON (C. Whiteley) and to the inside of DESERT BOY (I. Toward). However, due to the movement of both of those horses he had to ease and was held up for a short distance. Jockey Missen further stated that near the 150 metres he had intended to take a run to the outside of ROGERRAB (Apprentice M. Speers), yet that horse raced erratically and initially shifted out, and at that stage he elected to take a run to the inside of ROGERRAB, and over the concluding stages he was obliged to ease his mount because of pressure from ROGERRAB shifting in. Trainer R. Long confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Missen. The explanations were noted. A post-race veterinary examination of SILENT ECHO revealed that the horse had an elevated heart rate and was showing a poor post-race recovery rate.

Race 7: Garrard’s Horse & Hound Class 3 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – DANE MERCHANT 2nd – SUCCESSFUL JO 3rd – VITTORIALL 4th – MON CHOIX

LION BRAVE was a late withdrawal, at 9.13 a.m. Trainer Mr D. Hansen was fined $200 under A.R. 114 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time.

When the start was effected ACADEMY BOY (I. Toward) bounded in the air and lost ground.

VIE AGRO (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.

ACADEMY BOY (I. Toward) and MON CHOIX (J. Felix) raced wide in the early stages, until near the 1000 metres when both assumed a position in the lead.

Jockey G. Cullen was reprimanded under A.R. 144 for failing to weigh in after riding FROG into fifth place.
