Race 1: Quick Hit QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – SIENA’S PRIDE 2nd – VOODO ROYAL MAGIC 3rd – CALCURBY 4th – LOZEN WARRIOR

SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen) and VOODOO ROYAL MAGIC (I. Toward) began awkwardly.

Race 2: Jezzines Jumper Fillies and Mares Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – REZONET 2nd – INSTIL 3rd – FLASH BANG 4th – PUBZ A PLENTY

When Jockey F. Edwards was to be overweight, Jockey G. Cullen was substituted as the rider of FLASH BANG.

INSTIL (T. Bannon), REZONET (I. Toward) and FLASH BANG (G. Cullen) were slow to begin.

At the top of the straight DESERT LIGHTNING (J. Felix) was momentarily held up and unable to obtain clear running.

SIMONE’S GOT CLASS (S. Kaya) raced wide throughout.

Near the 200 metres INSTIL (T. Bannon) shifted out across the heels of FLASH BANG (G. Cullen) and in doing so inconvenienced DESERT LIGHTNING (J. Felix), which was following. Jockey T. Bannon was reprimanded and reminded of her obligation to ensure she is clear of other runners before shifting ground.

Race 3: McLeod’s Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – LEGAL POSITION 2nd – DIAMOND PROPHET 3rd – SHINING CHARM 4th – TRULY BONDED

ABOUT TO THUNDER (I. Fry) and CAPETIAN (J. Long) were slow to begin.

DIAMOND PROPHET (I. Toward) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped PROWSEY (G. Cullen).

CAPETIAN (J. Long) and EL AQUA (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

In the early and middle stages SHINING CHARM (C. Whiteley) over-raced.

In the home straight PROWSEY (G. Cullen) was inclined to lay in.

Over the concluding stages CAPETIAN (J. Long) was inclined to lay in behind the heels of EL AQUA (T. Bannon), which shifted out slightly.

Race 4: RSL Redboard Class 3 Handicap - 1630 metres
1st – LION BRAVE 2nd – SUCCESSFUL JO 3rd – CHIEF RED FEATHER 4th – VITTORIALL

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for Jockey I. Fry being declared as the rider of ROCKATTHECROCK and MANILA WARRIOR. After taking evidence from Jockey Fry, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed so that they can interview Mr P. Dwyer, the trainer of ROCKATTHECROC.

In the early and middle stages ROCKATTHECROC (T. Bannon) over-raced, then from the 400 metres to the winning post had difficulty obtaining clear running and went to the line without being fully tested.

LION BRAVE (D. Missen) was held up and unable to obtain clear running from the 400 metres until approaching the 250 metres, where it was shifted out to improve.

CHIEF RED FEATHER (G. Cullen) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: Frantic Fridays Colts, Gelding and Entires Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – GREY HUNTER 2nd – RONTGET 3rd – BEAU REGIS 4th – SUN YATSEN

FUNOFTHEFAIR (D. Crossland), SUN YATSEN (I. Toward) and INDIERE (S. Kaya) were slow to begin.

Near the 1100 metres NUCLEAR DRAMA (I. Fry) and GREY HUNTER (C. Whiteley) brushed.

In the middle stages GREY HUNTER (C. Whiteley) over-raced.

BEAU REGIS (F. Edwards) and PUBZ (M. Dale) raced wide throughout.

Near the 300 metres FUNOFTHEFAIR (D. Crossland) became awkwardly placed on the heels of RONTGEN (J. Felix), was steadied and shifted out to improve.

Following the race it was noted that NUCLEAR DRAMA (I. Fry) had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which NUCLEAR DRAMA had bled, the gelding was barred from racing for life under A.R. 53A.

A post-race veterinary examination of CREDIT CHARGE (P. Cullen), which commenced to weaken from the 400 metres, revealed that the gelding had sustained lacerations to the near hind and off hind fetlocks and was lame. Trainer Ms M. Preston will be advised that she must furnish a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to CREDIT CHARGE being permitted to race again.

Race 6: Coral Sea Star Class 5 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – ALBERT’S IMAGE 2nd – ROSCO’S CIRCUS 3rd – FROG DANCE 4th – MONASEECI

When Jockey F. Edwards was to be overweight Jockey J. Long was substituted as the rider of ASIAN THUNDER.

FROG DANCE (I. Toward) was slow to begin.

FLYING SONG (G. Cullen) raced wide early and then over-raced until near the 700 metres where the gelding took up a position in the lead.

Near the 400 metres ASIAN THUNDER (J. Long) raced up onto the heels of MONASEECI (J. Felix) and had to be steadied.

Leaving the 350 metres ALBERT’S IMAGE (D. Crossland) shifted out around the heels of ROSCO’S CIRCUS (C. Whiteley) to improve, taking ELVIS AARON (P. Cullen) out and hampered VACILLATOR (M. Dale).

Race 7: Townsville RSL Open Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – HIGHONRUM 2nd – DESERT BOY 3rd – OUR MISTAKE 4th – CRYSTAL MOSS

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of EXPECTING which finished fifth to view the patrol films with a view to lodging an objection against CRYSTAL MOSS (F. Edwards) being declared third. After viewing the films Jockey P. Cullen elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

In the early stages FRIGATE (I. Toward) over-raced.

Near the 500 metres FRIGATE (I. Toward) raced in restricted room between CRYSTAL MOSS (F. Edwards) and EXPECTING (P. Cullen), which shifted in. As a result both EXPECTING and FRIGATE bumped on numerous occasions.

Approaching the 300 metres CRYSTAL MOSS (F. Edwards) shifted out slightly, taking FRIGATE (I. Toward) out onto the hindquarters of EXPECTING (P. Cullen), which was turned inwards, resulting in FRIGATE being buffeted. A post-race veterinary examination of FRIGATE revealed that the gelding was showing mild lameness in the off foreleg.

Race 8: Leg-Up Lavaracks Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – STAR TASSLES 2nd – GASEOSA 3rd – SHELF SPACE 4th – ANY GOOD/MANU PERU (DH)

The explanation tendered by trainer R. Fleming for the late declaration of S. Kaya as the rider of LIAM’S LUCK was accepted.

After arriving behind the barriers TUSCAN DREAM reared and dislodged Jockey C. Whiteley, who had a harmless fall. The mare then escaped from the barrier attendants, galloped for some distance and left the course. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of TUSCAN DREAM at 5.52 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on TUSCAN DREAM be refunded in full and that all successful bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the tickets: win 6¢, place 7¢. After being recaptured TUSCAN DREAM was returned to the course, where it was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon, who reported that the mare was showing signs of soreness in the nearside hind leg and bruising and lacerations on the left stifle.

Trainer Mr J. Barr was advised that he must obtain a barrier certificate prior to TUSCAN DREAM being permitted to race again.

PROVOCATION (G. Cullen) began awkwardly.

PAIRAJET (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.

GASEOSA (D. Missen) and LIAM’S LUCK (S. Kaya) raced wide throughout.

From the 350 metres until approaching the 250 metres MANU PERU (T. Bannon) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Near the 300 metres ANY GOOD (J. Felix) was momentarily disappointed for a run between GASEOSA (D. Missen) and SHELF SPACE (I. Fry), and then had to shift out to improve.

Over the final 100 metres ANY GOOD (J. Felix) and PAIRAJET (P. Cullen) raced in restricted room when SHELF SPACE (I. Fry) shifted in under pressure.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
