LATE RIDING CHANGES:
Due to transport difficulties, Jockey J. Stanley was late arriving on course and unable to fulfil his engagements in Races 2 and 3. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. The explanation tendered by Jockey Stanley for his late arrival was accepted.
As Jockey C. Whiteley was unable to fulfil his engagement for AFAARAWAY in Race 7 due to transport arrangements, Jockey M. Elliott was substituted as the rider of the mare.
Race 1: TPI Raceday Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – BETHEL TWO 2nd – HAILING 3rd – YOYO 4th – HEINOUS
On jumping YOYO (I. Toward) and SUNDANCER (T. O’Hara) bumped.
HEINOUS (L. Dillon) and RISING OVATION (J. Stopps) were slow to begin.
Near the 1100 metres MEGAROYALE (G. Cullen) was checked and MUSQUITO (C. Eaton) was inconvenienced when tightened for room by NOTFAROUTOE (M. Elliott), which shifted in and away from BERRICO CHRIS (B. El-Issa) despite the efforts of its rider. After taking evidence from the parties involved, considering their own observations and viewing the official films, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any one rider was responsible for the incident and no further action was taken.
In the middle stages MUSQUITO (C. Eaton) over-raced.
Jockey G. Cullen pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a), in that near the 300 metres he permitted MEGAROYALE to shift out to obtain clear running when insufficiently clear of BERRICO CHRIS (B. El-Issa), which was checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey G. Cullen was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight 25th June 2010, up to and including midnight on 9th July 2010 (4 NQ meetings).
NOTFAROUTOE (M. Elliott) and SUNDANCER (T. O’Hara) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: TPI Ladies Auxiliary QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – BEEN BROKE BEFORE 2nd – TAIMEX 3rd – DESERSUNPRINCESS 4th – MISS BRAVEHEART

CHAMPAIGNE SILVER (S. Kaya), MISS ROAD SHOW (P. Cullen), DEMOTED (L. Dillon) and DAYLITEROBBERY (T. O’Hara) were slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages BEEN BROKE BEFORE (J. Stopps) over-raced.
At about the 1100 metres DEMOTED (L. Dillon), WILD POWER (C. Eaton) and UNTRACEABLE (G. Cullen) were tightened for room between MISS ROAD SHOW (P. Cullen) and MISS BRAVEHEART (B. El-Issa), which shifted in.
Near the 800 metres MISS BRAVEHEART (B. El-Issa) was eased away from the heels of DESERTSUNPRINCESS (I. Toward), which shifted in slightly.
BEEN BROKE BEFORE (J. Stopps) and DAYLITEROBBERY (T. O’Hara) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: WHK – TCM Smith 3-Y-O Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – APACHE PUP 2nd – GLADIATOR 3rd – THUNDER HILL 4th – SIENA’S PRIDE
Prior to the race trainer A. Payne informed stewards that VALVETRON will be ridden quietly in the early stages, contrary to its normal racing pattern. Public announcements were made to this effect.
THUNDER HILL (B. El-Issa) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with YEAH MATE (D. Simmons).
SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen) was slow to begin.
Rounding the turn at the 800 metres SIENA’S PRIDE (P. Cullen) was inclined to lay in.
Near the 600 metres FOUR LETTER WORDS (L. Dillon) was steadied when tightened for room between YEAH MATE (D. Simmons) and VALVETRON (C.Whiteley), which shifted out.
FOUR LETTER WORDS (L. Dillon), YEAH MATE (D. Simmons) and VALVETRON (C. Whiteley) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Townsville RSL Class 1 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – LIBERTY’S WAY 2nd – HORBURY TERRACE 3rd – CHILLI BITE 4th – MAKEM DAZZLE
The start was delayed when LIBERTY’S WAY (J. Stanley) proved difficult to load into the barriers. Trainer Mr E. Sewell was advised that a warning has been placed on the horse’s barrier manners.
At the start PAIRAJET (T. O’Hara), VOODOO RED MAGIC (T. Bannon), LATAGIRL (L. Dillon ), FACE TWO (D. Missen) and IL GABBIANO (G. Kliese) were tightened for room between MASTER REMLAP (D. Simmons) and RULEIRE (J. Stopps), which began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
As the start was effected DJAVA KNIGHT (P. Cullen) reared and lost ground.
In the early and middle stages PAIRAJET (T. O’Hara) over-raced and then compounded badly over the concluding stages.
RULEIRE (J. Stopps) raced wide throughout.
Following the race Jockey M. Elliott reported that KING CRIMSON hung out for the majority of the event.
When questioned about the tactics adopted on LIBERTY’S WAY, Jockey J. Stanley explained that he had been instructed to ride the mare in a forward position if possible and keep the horse on the bit. He said that from the outside barrier he had expected LIBERTY’S WAY to get back in the early stages, however the horse began well and after travelling a short distance he elected to go forward and race outside the leader. Trainer Mr E. Sewell confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Stanley and stated that at its previous starts prior to coming to Townsville LIBERTY’S WAY had always raced in a forward position. Stewards noted their explanations, however they reminded Mr Sewell of his obligation to advise stewards of any proposed change in riding tactics.
Race 5: Delta Office Solutions Class 3 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – HURRICANEPRINCE 2nd – ELSHAMAH 3rd – BRAVE TESTIMONY 4th – BREAKERS PATH
After SUPREME CHIC (J. Stopps) was placed in the barriers the gates on the barrier stall opened prematurely and SUPREME CHIC galloped for a short distance. The mare was quickly restrained and returned behind the barriers where it was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the video film of the start to determine whether MOUNT MAGIC (C. Whiteley) and OUR RARE GEM (S. Kaya) had been denied a fair start. After viewing the official films and interviewing the Club’s starter, stewards found that neither horse was denied a fair start and that the gates on the barriers had released simultaneously, however OUR RARE GEM began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost considerable ground, and that as the start was effected MOUNT MAGIC had reared and lost considerable ground. Mr P. Ryan, trainer of OUR RARE GEM, and Ms O. Cairns, trainer of MOUNT MAGIC were advised that, in view of the mitigating circumstances, including that the horses had been held in the barriers for some time, an official warning was placed on the racing manners of both horses.
CHEQUIN (B. El-Issa), SURPASSER (I. Toward), SILVERY BELL (L. Dillon) and GOLD SOVEREIGN (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.
In the early part of the straight SUPREME CHIC (J. Stopps) had difficulty obtaining clear running and then approaching the 100 metres was crowded for room between NOT MY PIC (M. Elliott) and BREAKERS PATH (T. O’Hara), which shifted in.
Race 6: Bill Standfast Memorial V.V.A.A. Class 5 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – ALYTAAT 2nd – IZACAT 3rd – SUCCESSFUL JO 4th – FRISCO BOPPER
Jockey B. El-Issa pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 1400 metres he permitted SUCCESSFUL JO to shift in when insufficiently clear of UPTOWN TYCOON (P. Cullen), which was checked by its rider and lost its position in the field. After this incident UPTOWN TYCOON over-raced for a short distance. Jockey El-Issa was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday, 4th July 2010, up to and including Wednesday, 14th July 2010 (8 Queensland meetings).
HEZA RULLAH (C. Whiteley) and GREAT PORTENT (C. Eaton) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: TPI Association Open Handicap – 1960 metres
1st – JERRYLEE 2nd – FABULOUS FUHRLONG 3rd – MANUSCRIPT 4th – RESOUNDING VICGTORY
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of RESOUNDING VICTORY which finished fourth, to view the official patrol films with a view to lodging objections against the horses which filled the first three placings. After viewing the films Jockey Cullen elected not to protest and correct weight was declared. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey L. Dillon pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 500 metres he permitted SEBASTIAN to shift out, taking MIGHTY MIGHT (I. Toward) and AFAARAWAY (M. Elliott) out, resulting in RESOUNDING VICTORY (P. Cullen) being tightened for room and checked. Jockey Dillon was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight Saturday, 26th June 2010, up to and including midnight Saturday, 10th July 2010 (4 NQ meetings).
JERRYLEE (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.

1st – TRUSTED PARTNER 2nd – KANETOSHI KING 3rd – ANDAMON 4th – SEA ZULU
After being placed in the barriers LIGHTNING GLANCE (D. Simmons) became fractious, reared and broke through. The gelding was quickly restrained by its rider, however, in the incident Jockey Simmons sustained an injury to his left leg and was unable to move from the track, causing a substantial delay. The remaining horses were removed from the barriers whilst the Club’s Ambulance Officers attended to Jockey Simmons, who was unable to fulfil his engagement and was transported to hospital. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of LIGHTNING GLANCE at 5.18 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on LIGHTNING GLANCE be refunded in full and that all successful bets with bookmakers prior to the withdrawal of LIGHTNING GLANCE be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of tickets: win 7¢, place 8¢.
ANDAMON (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.
In the early and middle stages LA SALLE (B. El-Issa) and CRYSTAL MOSS (L. Dillon) raced wide.
Following the race it was noted that LA SALLE (B. El-Issa) had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Ms J. Ryan was advised that as this was the first occasion on which the gelding had bled, it was barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A.
