Race 1: Racing Queensla nd Limited QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA STELLAR 2nd – CRYSTAL MATES 3rd – SWAMPIE 4th – MANUMIT
SWAMPIE (P. Cullen) and BLUFALO (J. Stopps) were slow to begin.
SWAMPIE (P. Cullen) raced greenly throughout.
MANUMIT (J. Long) raced wide throughout.
When asked as to the performance of BLUFALO, Jockey J. Stopps stated that after being slow to begin the gelding was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages of the event and failed to maintain contact with the remainder of the field. Jockey Stopps added that rounding the home turn BLUFALO began to stretch out and as a consequence finished the race off well. Jockey Stopps noted that BLUFALO had recently been gelded and prior to that had been pinching itself in its previous race start. Jockey Stopps was of the view that, despite having been gelded, BLUFALO was still reluctant to stretch out in the early stages of today’s event. Trainer T. Rowe agreed with the comments of Jockey Stopps and would persist with the gelding’s preparation.
2: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au QTIS 3-Y-O Maiden Handicap - 1000 Metres
1st – GLOUCESTER STORM 2nd - MIN MIN MAN 3rd – ULTRAZONAL 4th – DANLOTTO
RUDDER (D. Missen) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped DANLOTTO (G. Kliese).
APACHE GULF (App. C. Pye) and ACTION TONIGHT (J. Babarovich) bumped on jumping.
Near the 900 metres RUDDER (D. Missen) shifted out and inconvenienced ULTRAZONAL (D. Tanti).
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on RUDDER and the overall performance of the colt, Jockey D. Missen stated that from its wide barrier he was instructed to take up a handy position, however after beginning awkwardly he attempted to obtain a forward position but was unable to cross the runners directly to his inside, therefore he attempted to take up a position with cover behind the leaders. Jockey Missen said that approaching the 800 metres RUDDER began to hang out, at which point SPECIAL AND GRAND (I. Toward) improved to his inside, preventing him from taking up his intended position and RUDDER was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Missen stated further that he was not entirely disappointed with the colt’s performance as it was able to finish off the race fairly, despite being forced to race wide and carry 59 kg on a heavy track. Trainer M. Chillemi confirmed the instructions issued to Jockey Missen and advised stewards that she would now consider stepping the colt up to 1200 metres.
When questioned as to the tactics adopted on DEXTERITY, particularly in the home straight, Jockey N. Patchett stated that upon straightening he attempted a run to the inside of MISS AMY (T. Bannon), however was disappointed for that run. Jockey Patchett then elected to shift out in an effort to obtain clear running to the outside of GLOUCESTER STORM (M. Elliott). Jockey Patchett added that he was reluctant to shift ground too abruptly at this point as the filly was having only its fourth race start. Jockey Patchett said further that once able to obtain clear running he was unable to fully test DEXTERITY due to DANLOTTO (G. Kliese) and RUDDER (D. Missen) being positioned in front of him. Stewards advised Jockey Patchett that they were critical of his riding in the home straight in that he should have made greater endeavours to obtain clear running earlier in the home straight and he should not leave his riding open to question as he had in this instance.
Trainer J. Manzelmann will be interviewed regarding his failure to provide the Document of Description for DEXTERITY.
Race 3: Join The TTC 100 Club in 2012 Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – FINROD 2nd – KOOLASACAT 3rd – LITTLE ERNIE 4th – FESTIVAL BALLET

IVERADACIOUS (J. Stopps) over-raced early.
Near the 800 metres BRIGHTVIEW BOMBER (J. Felix) became awkward after shying at a discoloured section of the track.
In the middle stages BRIGHTVIEW BOMBER (J. Felix) had a tendency to hang out.
Near the 200 metres FESTIVAL BALLET (I. Toward) and LITTLE ERNIE (M. Elliott) bumped.
Jockey J. Stopps pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 100 metres he permitted IVERADACIOUS to shift in whilst being ridden along when insufficiently clear of OCTA DUCK (J. Babarovich), which was checked when tightened for room between CLUES (G. Kliese) and IVERADACIOUS. Jockey Stopps was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight 24th January 2012, up to and including midnight on Tuesday 31st January 2012. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Stopps’ previous good record in relation to careless riding.
SHOW US YA IVORYS (P. Cullen), OCTA DUCK (J. Babarovich) and CLUES (G. Kliese) raced wide throughout.
After passing the winning post CITING (S. Kaya) was checked when tightened for room by FESTIVAL BALLET (I. Toward), which shifted in and away from KOOLASACAT (F. Edwards), which shifted in slightly. Jockey F. Edwards was reminded of his obligation to ensure that he is clear of other runners before shifting ground. Jockey I. Toward was reprimanded for making insufficient effort to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Race 4: Racing Every Tuesday @ Cluden Park Class 4 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – CHEQUIN 2nd – IL CIBREO 3rd – DESTINY EXPRESS 4th – FLEUR DE BAIE
Apprentice C. Pye will be interviewed as to her failure to claim her full allowance on CARVELON and also as to why she left the course without first seeking permission.

In the early part of the straight IL CIBREO (P. Cullen) shifted in and bumped CARVELON (App. C. Pye).
Near the 200 metres FLEUR DE BAIE (D. Tanti) shifted out and bumped RUGGED RANGES (J. Stopps).
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of CARVELON, App. C. Pye stated that the mare raced best when able to lead of its own accord. App. Pye added that the mare began well and was able to obtain the lead easily, however in the middle stages IL CIBREO (P. Cullen) raced tight to her outside for a substantial distance. App. Pye was of the opinion that this contributed to CARVELON’s inability to finish the race off as expected. The explanation was noted. CARVELON was sent to be swabbed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that CARVELON was showing a slower than normal recovery rate.
A post-race veterinary examination of CHEQUIN (G. Kliese) revealed that the gelding had sustained a large traumatic ulcer to the near cornea. Trainer J. Ryan was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to CHEQUIN being permitted to race again.

In the early stages WAR LION (App. C. Pye) was slow to muster speed.
In the early part of the home straight TAT ZEPHYR (W. D’Avila) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Tapiolas for the late scratching, at 11.25 a.m., of ABOUT TO THUNDER.
The start was delayed when BLACK SEQUIN (I. Toward) proved difficult to load into the barriers.
CABINET (D. Tanti) and GOGO DELAGO (K. Rockett) were slow to begin.
YOUNG GUNZ (S. Kaya) raced wide in the early stages.
Trainer E. Russo was advised that ALONG CAME JOHNNY (N. Patchett) will be barred from racing at provincial meetings until such time as it performs satisfactorily at non-TAB meetings or performs satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

Race 8: Jodie Kennedy Event Management Open Handicap – 1300 metres

When Jockey F. Edwards was to be overweight, Jockey I. Toward was substituted as the rider of PARIS BOY.
Near the 200 metres BUDABAR (D. Tanti) had to be eased to avoid the heels of PARIS BOY (I. Toward), which shifted in to obtain clear running.
When questioned as to the disappointing performance of TAORMINA, Jockey D. Missen stated that from the wide barrier and with the opinion that the early pace was drawn to his inside, he intended to take up a midfield position with cover. Jockey Missen added that TAORMINA was under pressure leaving the 600 metres and failed to respond to his riding at all in the home straight and was very disappointing. Jockey Missen was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the horse’s poor performance. Trainer S. Kendrick was also at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of TAORMINA. Mr Kendrick said that following the gelding’s last-start disappointing performance he had had a veterinarian examine the gelding, which did not reveal any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of TAORMINA revealed a possible fracture to the near hind cannon bone and an abnormal respiratory sound. Trainer S. Kendrick will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before TAORMINA will be permitted to race again.
Jockey N Patchett pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on TIMECALL in a forehand manner on more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. Jockey Patchett was fined $300. In considering penalty stewards were mindful of Jockey Patchett’s substantial breach of the rule.
