GENERAL:

Stewards today conducted an inquiry into the Analyst’s finding from a urine sample provided by Jockey A. Coome at the Rockhampton Jockey Club meeting on 12th January 2012. Jockey A. Coome subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 81A(1)(a) in that the urine sample provided by him at the Rockhampton Jockey Club meeting on 12th January 2012 upon analysis was found to contain a substance banned under A.R.81B, namely, Phentermine. After considering submissions on penalty, stewards suspended Jockey A. Coome’s licence to ride in races for a period of two calendar months, to commence from 27th January 2012, the date on which Jockey Coome was stood down from riding, and to conclude at midnight on 26th March 2012. Jockey Coome was further advised that, in accordance with A.R. 81A(4) he must provide a sample free of any banned substance prior to being permitted to return to riding.

Race 6: Magic Millions QTIS Sale 18-19 March Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – FOUR IRON 2nd – DESTINY EXPRESS 3rd – CARLTON FORWARD 4th – LIL' RED MONKEY

The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey R. Ryan, the rider of CARLTON FORWARD which finished fourth, against LIL’ RED MONKEY (I. Toward) being declared third, alleging interference between the 200 metres and the 100 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the patrol films and taking into consideration their own observations, stewards upheld the protest and amended the placings to: 1st FOUR IRON; 2nd DESTINY EXPRESS; third CARLTON FORWARD; fourth LIL’ RED MONKEY, and correct weight was declared. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey I. Toward pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 100 metres he permitted LIL’ RED MONKEY to shift out, taking HEAR ME TALKIN out onto CARLTON FORWARD, resulting in HEAR ME TALKIN being severely checked and CARLTON FORWARD being hampered. Jockey Toward was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight, 14th February 2012, up to and including 25th February 2012.

Approaching the 500 metres DESTINY EXPRESS (A. Merritt) became unbalanced, shifted out and bumped FOUR IRON (D. Missen).

Leaving the 500 metres CARLTON FORWARD (R. Ryan) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with MANOLETE (J. Stopps).

Trainer J. Russell was fined $200 under A.R. 59A for failing to produce the Document of Description for IT’S JUST LAGO. Ms Russell was advised that she must furnish the Document of Description for IT’S JUST LAGO before the gelding will be permitted to race again.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to determine whether LEONIDS (D. Simmons) was afforded a fair start. Having taken evidence from the Starter and viewing the patrol film of the start stewards declared that LEONIDS had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared.

LEONIDS (D. Simmons) reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
