SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Townsville, 10th April 2012
Race 4: Join The TTC 100 Club Today Class 4 Handicap – 1630 metres
Trainer S. Kendrick advised stewards that SAINT LENNY was flat following the event and will be sent for a short spell.

Race 1: Oliver & Chloe Class 1 Handicap, 1630 metres
1st – HE’S SO TEMPTING 2nd – CRAIGLEA CARINA 3rd – ABOUT TO THUNDER 4th – MICHELET

Trainer Mr T. Rowe informed stewards that GRAND ASSASSIN would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permitted. GRAND ASSASSIN was ridden accordingly. Public announcements were made accordingly.

FASTER BUSTER (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin.

At the entrance to the home straight FIREPIT (C. Whiteley) had to be eased to avoid the heels of GRAND ASSASSIN (App. B. Swaffer), which shifted out while laying out.

When asked about the poor performance of FIREPIT, Jockey C. Whiteley stated that in the early part of the straight he was inconvenienced and had to be eased and when placed under pressure in the straight the filly failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Stewards afforded trainer Mr B. Baker the opportunity to explain the apparently improved performance of HE’S SO TEMPTING. Mr Baker stated that at its most recent start, over 1200 metres, the gelding failed to sprint over the concluding stages. Mr Baker added that today HE’S SO TEMPTING was dropping back in class and was suited by the extra distance of the event.

J. Stopps was fined $200 under A.R.145 for returning to scale on MICHELET more than half a kilogram above his declared weight.

Race 2: Hurry & Join the TTC 100 Club Benchmark 79 Handicap - 1630 Metres
1st – JANAMAZ 2nd - TEDDY BARE 3rd – TIMECALL 4th – LEFT HOOK

TIMECALL (A. Coome) and TRIPITZ (J. Stopps) were slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn TIMECALL (A. Coome) was held up for clear running and had a tendency to lay out, then in the early part of the straight had to change course to improve.

When asked about the tactics adopted on JANAMAZ, Jockey W. D’Avila stated that he had been instructed to ride the mare quietly in the early stages and obtain cover. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi confirmed the instructions given to Jockey D’Avila and said that he was of the opinion that there was a lot of early pace in the field and from a wide barrier JANAMAZ would be better suited if allowed to take up a position with cover. Mr Chillemi was reminded of his obligation to advise stewards of any proposed change in a horse’s usual racing pattern.

Race 3: Winter Carnival On Sale Soon Maiden Plate - 1400 metres
1st – MASTER INVADER 2nd – MR GOLD 3rd – HAILING 4th – BENTLEY’S BEST

YOUR REEL (G. Cullen) was slow to begin and then shifted out abruptly and lost considerable ground.

YOUR REEL (G. Cullen) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – BOOM SHA LA 2nd – GWENNIE 3rd – BAR ATTACK 4th – SPIRIT OF A DRAGON

The start was delayed when MISHANI IMAGE (C. Whiteley) and ROCKET A GOGO (J. Babarovich) proved difficult to load.

Apprentice K. Matheson was reprimanded under A.R. 142 for failing to weigh in after riding CRAIGLEA MODEL, which finished fifth.

COURT AFFAIRE (M. Elliott) refused to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 3.17 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on COURT AFFAIRE be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

0¢ in the dollar for the win for BOOM SHA LA
1¢ in the dollar for the place for BOOM SHA LA
1¢ in the dollar for the place for GWENNIE
1¢ in the dollar for the place for SPIRIT OF A DRAGON

Trainer Mr B. Baker was advised that COURT AFFAIRE must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.

SPIRIT OF A DRAGON (F. Edwards) began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with CRAIGLEA MODEL (App. K. Matheson). SPIRIT OF A DRAGON then shifted in, resulting in DIURNAL TIGER (D. Tanti) and BAR ATTACK (G. Kliese) being hampered.

In the early stages the saddle on SPIRIT OF A DRAGON (F. Edwards) shifted backwards for a short distance before shifting to its normal position.

On a number of occasions approaching the 100 metres BOOM SHA LA (W. D’Avila) shifted out and brushed GWENNIE (J. Stopps). Jockey W. D’Avila will be notified that he must exercise more care in similar circumstances.

CRYSTAL MATES (A. Merritt) and SPEED DRAGON (App. N. Bin Yadi) raced wide throughout.

Race 5: MAK Advertising Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – GRANITY 2nd – NOT MY PIC 3rd – BIANCO ROSSA 4th – RED DASH

KENSINGTON (C. Whiteley) and GRANITY (J. Felix) were slow to begin.

Near the 200 metres MISS PARMA (P. Cullen) shifted out and brushed PUBLIC AFFAIR (I. Toward).

GRANITY (J. Felix) and PUBLIC AFFAIR (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to his riding of BIANCO ROSSA, in particular approaching and rounding the home turn, Jockey G. Kliese stated that approaching the home turn he was awkwardly placed just to the inside of the heels of GRANITY (J. Felix) and with GOLD BUDDA (M. Elliott) racing to his inside having a tendency to lay out. Jockey Kliese said that for this reason he was unable to improve his position rounding the home turn. Jockey Kliese added that when he was able to shift to the outside in the early part of the straight BIANCO ROSSA made good ground. Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Jockey Kliese, however he was notified that he must ensure that he rides his mounts in a manner that does not leave room for query.

Race 6: Maccas Synthetic Grasses Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – LOUQUALO 2nd – SIENA’S PRIDE 3rd – BEURRE 4th – SHEZA DRAGON

FLYING TEST (C. Whiteley), LOUQUALO (W. D’Avila) and JENNINGS (App. K. Matheson) were slow to begin.

From the 200 metres until approaching the winning post JENNINGS (App. K. Matheson) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.

Race 7: Wanless Enviro Services Class 3 Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – POWER SOURCE 2nd – KUA FU 3rd – AN EYE FOR AN EYE 4th – KASA GOLD

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P. Cullen, the rider of KASA GOLD, which finished fourth, to view the official patrol films with a view to lodging an objection against PENOR’S PRIDE (M. Elliott) being declared second. After viewing the films Jockey Cullen elected not to lodge a protest and stewards declared correct weight. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey M. Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the winning post he permitted PENOR’S PRIDE to shift in when not sufficiently clear of KASA GOLD (P. Cullen), which was taken in onto the hindquarters of AN EYE FOR AN EYE (I. Toward), which was turned outwards, resulting in KASA GOLD having to be checked. Jockey M. Elliott was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 NQ meetings, to commence at midnight on 21st April 2012, up to and including midnight on 28th April 2012.

WARBRIK (App. B. Swaffer) began awkwardly, then shortly after the start shifted in and tightened RESIDENCE (W. D’Avila).

In the early and middle stages WARBRIK (App. B. Swaffer) and KUA FU (A. Merritt) over-raced.

KASA GOLD (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.
