LATE RIDING CHANGES:
When Jockey M. Elliott was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Elliott was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
Race 1: Tradies Raceday 4 Dec Benchmark 79 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – MAZUKA 2nd – FOUR IRON 3rd – BREAKERS PATH 4th – HUSS
Shortly after the start CAPITAL FLOW (A. Merritt) was eased when tightened for room between HUSS (A. Coome) and FOUR IRON (D. Missen), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 200 metres MAZUKA (App. N. Bin Yadi) was momentarily tightened when attempting a run to the inside of HUSS (A. Coome), which shifted in slightly.
Near the winning post HUSS (A. Coome) was tightened for room between MAZUKA (App. N. Bin Yadi) and FOUR IRON (D. Missen), which shifted in. Jockey Missen was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 2: Townsville Diesel & Machinery Services Maiden Plate - 1200 Metres
1st – RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP 2nd - PINK ‘N’ BLUE 3rd – YOUR REEL 4th – FRENCH JOY
MISS EIGHT CARAT (G. Kliese) and YOUR REEL (P. Cullen) were slow into stride.
At the start SHERIDAN (D. Hayse) was tightened for room between NASEEM (I. Toward) and BENTLEY’S BEST (A. Dykes), which began awkwardly and shifted out.
Shortly after the start NASEEM (I. Toward) commenced to buck and lost considerable ground. Trainer W. Kenning was advised that NASEEM must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
Jockey F. Edwards reported that RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP raced greenly throughout.
Stewards questioned Jockey W. D’Avila as to the tactics he adopted on PINK ‘N’ BLUE, in particular as to why he relinquished the lead to FRENCH JOY (D. Tanti) near the 800 metres, resulting in PINK ‘N’ BLUE becoming held up on the heels of FRENCH JOY for a considerable distance and having to race in restricted room to the inside of RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP (F. Edwards). Jockey D’Avila stated that he did not want to bustle PINK ‘N’ BLUE in the early and middle stages as this may have had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s ability to finish off the race. Stewards advised Jockey D’Avila that in their opinion he had erred by not maintaining the lead in the middle stages of the event and that in future he would be expected to show more initiative and not leave his riding open to question.
Race 3: Townsville Ardent Office Equipment Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – TOUCH OF ELEGANCE 2nd – COLLESTRADA 3rd – SAVAGE HEART 4th – MISS LIBERTY
GARRULOUS (A. Merritt) began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with VICTORY MAN (D. Missen), which in turn shifted in and tightened the running of MISS LIBERTY (A. Dykes), which was checked and lost ground.
Joining the course proper near the 1000 metres TOUCH OF ELEGANCE (W. D’Avila) was eased when tightened for room by DELARGO SCENE (I. Toward), which shifted in and away from COLLESTRADA (D. Tanti).
Jockey F. Edwards reported that DANLOTTO was inclined to hang out throughout the event, placing him at a disadvantage.
Approaching the 200 metres VICTORY MAN (D. Missen) and DELARGO SCENE (I. Toward) made heavy contact. A post-race veterinary examination of VICTORY MAN revealed that the gelding was displaying a poor post-race recovery rate.
Near the 200 metres when pulling his whip through Jockey D. Tanti, the rider of COLLESTRADA, lost the use of his reins and momentarily became unbalanced.
Over the final 150 metres DELARGO SCENE (I. Toward) had difficulty obtaining clear running and was shifted to the inside of GARRULOUS (A. Merritt) to improve.
Jockey A. Dykes was reprimanded in regard to the use of his whip on MISS LIBERTY prior to the 100 metres.
Race 4: Townsville Window & Screens Class 3 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – AVADALE 2nd – OUTBACK ELSA 3rd – THUNDER HILL 4th – WHY NOT NOW
Jockey D. Hayes was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 700 metres he permitted PASSIN’ THRU to shift in when insufficiently clear of TYCOON COUGAR (W. D’Avila), which was checked, blundered and lost its rightful running. Jockey Hayes was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 8 meetings, to take effect at the expiration of his current suspension, up to and including midnight on Saturday, 1st December 2012. A post-race veterinary examination of PASSIN’ THRU, which raced below market expectations, did not reveal any abnormalities.
DECADERO (A. Merritt) and BLACK SEQUIN (D. Tanti) were slow to begin.
Race 5: The Office Choice Pen to Paper Class 2 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – BURT 2nd – STROM THE RHYTHM 3rd – PENOR’S PRIDE 4th – ROCK ALERT
MCKINLAY (W. D’Avila) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000 metres ROCK ALERT (D. Hayse) was buffeted between VILLAGE COMMAND (I. Toward) and TRIPLE DOWN (J. Long), which initially was taken out by STROM THE RHYTHM (A. Merritt), which shifted out. Jockey A. Merritt was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned as to the reason for SONIC BLAST racing forward today, compared to its most recent racing pattern, Jockey A. Coome stated that it had been his intention to have SONIC BLAST race midfield, but after beginning well, when there was no early speed, the gelding raced in a forward position without being placed under pressure. The explanation was noted.
CABINET (P. Cullen) raced wide throughout.
Jockey W. D’Avila reported that MCKINLAY did not feel comfortable throughout the event and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of MCKINLAY revealed that the gelding had swelling in both forelegs. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi was advised that he must furnish a veterinary clearance for MCKINLAY prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
Stewards afforded Jockey G. Kliese an opportunity to explain the performance of ROYAL IMPACT. Jockey Kliese said that in the early stages he was unable to obtain cover, as had been his intention. Jockey Kliese added that the mare commenced to weaken approaching the home turn and in his opinion was very disappointing.
When asked about the seeming improved performance of BURT, trainer R. Long stated that the gelding today was dropping back in class and also was stepping up in distance. Mr Long added that in future he intended to nominate the gelding for races over longer distances.
Race 6: Amusements Plus Benchmark 75 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – GOLDEN PORTRAIT 2nd – RATTUS CONATUS 3rd – PANECILLO 4th – DIVINE LUCK
