12th August 2013:
Stewards fined Registered Owner Mr Jack Barr $500 under the provisions of A.R.175(gg) in that he made a false declaration on the transfer of ownership form lodged with Racing Queensland Limited in respect of the racehorse BRAVE ERA, whereby he altered the date of his birth on the official document for the purpose of conforming with A.R. 49(1), which stipulates that no person under the age of 18 years shall have any interest, whether by lease or share in ownership or outright ownership, in any racehorse.
Late Riding Changes:
When Jockey M. Elliott was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Elliott was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
Race 1: - Project Leaders Australia BenchMark 74 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – ORIENTELLE 2nd – MAGIC COUNTRY 3rd – ARCATRAN 4th – QUEEN THYRA
QUEEN THYRA (A. Dykes) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 700 metres BESIEGED (App. E. Ljung), after being crossed by QUEEN THYRA, shifted out resulting in MEREDITH (App. J. Kuskopf) and ARCATRAN (M. Cullen) being forced wider.
Race 2: - Clubmart Maiden Plate – 1200 Metres
1st – JAYHAWK 2nd - OAKFIELD AVENGER 3rd – DANCING HUSSAR 4th – LADY SAGA
DANCING HUSSAR (App. B. Swaffer) began awkwardly and lost ground.
MANUMIT (App. S. Wiseman) jumped in the air at the start.
At the start BUCKANARA (F. Edwards) was hampered by YOUNG BASIL (App. E. Ljung), which shifted in.
TOUGH COMPANY (D. Simmons) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start STAR SPRAY (S. Wilson) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of MANUMIT (App. S. Wiseman) and lost ground.
Near the 1000 metres TREASURE SON (W. D’Avila), after being bumped inwards by YOUNG BASIL (App. E. Ljung), was forced to steady to avoid the heels of COUNTESS MONPEZAT (P. Cullen) and as a result lost ground.
Near the 900 metres DANCING HUSSAR was momentarily forced to ease when racing to the inside of STAR SPRAY, which shifted in marginally.
In the middle stages YOUNG BASIL over-raced.
In the home straight COUNTESS MONPEZAT had a tendency to lay in under pressure.
Upon returning to scale App. B. Swaffer reported to stewards that DANCING HUSSAR was slow to begin today and raced ungenerously in the early stages, which he attributed to the horse racing with blinkers for the first time. App. Swaffer said that after receiving pressure near the 1000 metres he was forced to ease the gelding, however in doing so DANCING HUSSAR lost more ground than he had anticipated. App. Swaffer added that the gelding raced more tractably in the middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight ran on strongly and made solid late ground.
Race 3: - Westpac Commercial & Agri Blass 4 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – FAINT PRAISE 2nd – EUREKA DUBAI 3rd – SEEK DE FORTUNE 4th – SOLIDIFY
Near the 1100 metres ROPABLE (M. Cullen) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of SOLIDIFY (I. Toward) when taken in by MAECENUS (A. Dykes) which raced ungenerously and shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider.
Shortly after turning for home SIDADA (S. Wilson) was disappointed for a run between BURT (App. B. Swaffer) and ROPABLE and had to be steadied.
Stewards questioned Jockey F. Edwards in relation to the tactics adopted on STROM THE RHYTHM today, whereby the mare settled further back in the field than anticipated, and furthermore, as to the overall performance of the horse. Jockey Edwards explained that he had anticipated STROM THE RHYTHM racing in a handy position, however after beginning only fairly the mare failed to muster the speed that he had expected. As a result of runners improving to his inside, he was of the view that he was going to be caught wide throughout and elected to take a position close to the running rail towards the rear of the field. Jockey Edwards further advised that STROM THE RHYTHM travelled reasonably well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight ran hame fairly under his riding. The explanation was noted.
Stewards offered Jockey A. Dykes the opportunity to explain the seemingly disappointing performance of MAECENUS. Jockey Dykes advised that the mare travelled well throughout, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing over the concluding stages of the event. Jockey Dykes added that the mare worked well in its preparation for today’s event and in its trackwork, however he said that in his opinion the mare resented racing in a tongue bit, which today was applied to the mare’s approved gear for the first time and may have contributed to the disappointing performance. Trainer R. Cussons advised that in his opinion MAECENUS may not have run out a strong 1200 metres and therefore he will endeavour to drop the mare back in distance at its next start. Mr Cussons added that on the assurance of Jockey Dykes that MAECENUS may have resented racing in a tongue control bit, he will now experiment with the horse’s gear, including the addition of a tongue-tie, at its next start.
Upon returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons advised the stewards that after beginning well, in the early stages he attempted to position BOOM SHA LA in a one-off position, however was unable to do so and as a result raced three wide throughout. Jockey Simmons said that the mare races best when able to obtain cover in its races, however as a result of racing wide today, BOOM SHA LA ran on only fairly over the concluding stages.
Race 4: – Maxgaming Class 2 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – LAGO LIES 2nd – WOOLGAR ROAD 3rd – EXCAPISHE 4th – BIGHORN
The start was slightly delayed when the bridle on WOOLGAR ROAD (A. Lawrence) required adjusting at the barriers.
WOOLGAR ROAD began awkwardly, threw its head in the air and as a result lost ground and raced further back in the field than anticipated.
DIVA DIOR (S. Kaya) lost ground at the start after jumping out and making contact with BIGHORN.
Approaching the 600 metres TUPPENY’S OPINION (P. Cullen) improved onto the heels of RATTLER’S LAD (App. J. Kuskopf) and was forced to steady.
Rounding the home turn PATTO’S GIRL (S. Wilson) shifted out to obtain clear running when not completely clear of DIVA DIOR, which was taken very wide on the track. Jockey Wilson was advised to show far greater care in similar circumstances.
Race 5: – Key Motors Mazda BT-50 Pallarenda Stakes QTIS 2-Y-O Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st – ELEMENT OF CHANCE 2nd – SCHNELLES PFERD 3rd – MODEL TO EXCEED 4th – SHE’S ALL OURS
Jockey S. Pawsey pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that approaching the 350 metres he permitted ELEMENT OF CHANCE to shift out when insufficiently clear of PENTHOUSE POPPY (App. B. Swaffer), which was tightened for room and forced to shift out, resulting in GOLDEN PAGES (M. Cullen) being checked to avoid the heels of PENTHOUSE POPPY. Jockey Pawsey was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 meetings, to commence at midnight on 15th October 2013, up to and including midnight on 2nd November 2013. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLDEN PAGES revealed that the filly was mildly lame in the off foreleg.
Race 6: – Konami Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – CASHED UP BULLY 2nd – SHERIDAN 3rd – BAZINSKY 4th – MASTER INVADER
Prior to the race trainer E. Covell informed stewards that he will instruct App. B. Swaffer not to use his whip on MASTER INVADER as the gelding resents vigorous riding, consistent with his instructions to riders at its most recent starts.
VON SEBASTIAN (W. D’Avila) raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.
Jockey P. Cullen was fined $100 under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip on SHADOW LINE more than 5 times in a forward manner prior to the 100 metres. When assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Cullen’s exemplary record in relation to breaches of this Rule.
Race 7: - Yalumba BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – ROFRANOZ 2nd – SALSBEEL 3rd – ZIP THE LIP 4th – KERCHINGS
GO GO DELAGO (W. D’Avila) was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the performance of MISS MAGIC CHINE, Jockey J. P. Stanley advised that the mare travelled comfortably throughout the event, however due to the manner in which the race was run, he was forced to sustain a longer sprint than he expected and as a result was forced to place MISS MAGIC CHINE under pressure from the 600 metres. Jockey Stanley said further that in his opinion, whilst the mare ran on well in the early part of the straight, MISS MAGIC CHINE failed to run out a strong 1630 metres.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED
