Race 1: - Mates4Mates QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – CRAIGLEA IVY 2nd - ONE BAR NONE 3rd – MODEL TO EXCEED 4th – BOCEPHUS

On returning to scale Jockey C. Whiteley reported that ALPINE GOLD raced greenly throughout.

At the start CRAIGLEA MISSION (App. J. Orman) shifted in and made contact with WICKED THROUGHTS (S. Pawsey).

Inside the 200 metres CRAIGLEA MISSION laid in when placed under pressure.

Race 2: - Achieve Exercise Physiologists Maiden Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – SEQUALO SUZIE 2nd – JUST A FRACTION 3rd - FRENCH JOY 4th – SUNNY CHIEF

After arriving behind the barriers it was noted that ZARIZMA (S. Wilson) had a small amount of blood in its mouth. The gelding was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

Approaching the 1100 metres CLOUD DANCER (D. Simmons) had to be checked when tightened for room between SEQUALO SUZIE (App. S. Wiseman), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, and ZARIZMA (W. Wilson), which was racing keenly and shifted out marginally. For some distance after this incident ZARIZMA continued to race keenly.

WINDSOR GOLD (J. P. Stanley) raced in restricted room for a short distance in the early part of the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of CLOUD DANCER (D. Simmons) revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore. Trainer T Simmons will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the mare's next start.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that SUNNY CHIEF (S. Pawsey) had dislodged a tooth.

Race 3: - Ray White Kirwan Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – JAMALKA 2nd – OKAY SWIFT 3rd - MONET MISS 4th – DAMKY

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr B. Williams for the late notification of Jockey D. Simmons as the rider for ASTRONAUT.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey T. Bannon to view the film of the start to determine whether RUM RATION had been afforded a fair start. Having viewed the available videos, it was established that the gelding, which had been fractious in the barriers and was assisted by a barrier attendant, missed the start by 5 lengths. Accordingly, correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers. Trainer M. Whitehouse was advised that a warning will be placed on the barrier manners of RUM RATION.

At the start FLIGHT TO GLORY (J. Felix) and TETE DE SEAU (S. Pawsey) were crowded for room between OKAY SWIFT (P. Cullen), which shifted out, and AL SAMUI (A. Spinks), which shifted in.

THE LIGHTWEIGHT (D. Hayse) began awkwardly.

JAMALKA (App. S. Wiseman) was slow to begin.

Passing the 500 metres MONET MISS (G. Watson) had to be steadied after improving onto the heels of AQUALITA (S. Wilson).

For a considerable distance in the early part of the straight DAMKY (G. Kliese) was held up when disappointed for a narrow run between ASTRONAUT and ILLUSIONS (J. P. Stanley) and was unable to obtain clear running until near the 150 metres.

ASTRONAUT (D. Simmons) and FLIGHT TO GLORY raced wide throughout.

Race 4: – VVAA Class 6 Plate – 1300 metres
1st – FRENCH LESSON 2nd – VON SEBASTIAN 3rd – CLEAVER 4th – RHYTHM ‘N’ RAP

After arriving behind the barriers JAM FANCY (D. Missen) was kicked by another runner. The gelding was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

DE LA SOUL (A. Spinks) was marginally slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages DE LA SOUL was held up when racing in restricted room between SKITTER (C. Whiteley) and BELLASPIRIT (D. Simmons).

Race 5: – Delta Office Solutions Class 3 Plate – 1000 metres
1st – FAMILY FREEZE 2nd – MOLONGLE DREAM 3rd – INSIDE PAGE 4th – NEDIYM’S QUEST/CROTCHET (DH)

The start was delayed when CASTAWAY (A. Spinks) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

FAMILY FREEZE (App. S. Wiseman) shifted out at the start and carried CROTCHET (C. Whiteley) out onto MOLONGLE DREAM (App. J. Orman), which was hampered.

Shortly after the start CASTAWAY (A. Spinks) shifted out and away from GENERAL HAP (J. P. Stanley) and made contact with REDBOLT (G. Watson).

HEART OF STRENGTH (J. Felix) was slow into stride.

Approaching the 900 metres REDBOLT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of INSIDE PAGE (G. Kliese), which shifted in when not quite clear. REDBOT then raced ungenerously in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200 metres MOLONGLE DREAM (App. J. Orman) was held up momentarily on the heels of GENERAL HAP and had to be shifted to the inside of that runner to improve.

In the home straight BASHIGA (F. Edwards) raced greenly when placed under pressure.

Following this race, at 3.40 p.m., the track rating was downgraded to a DEAD(5).

Race 6: – Morley’s Funerals Open Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS 2nd – ARCATRAN 3rd - FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS 4th – BLAME GAME

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr B. Williams for the late notification of Jockey T. Bannon as the rider of SHADOW BUSTER.

SECRET STEALTH (D. Simmons) was slow to begin, then shortly after the start was hampered by WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS, which shifted out.

Approaching the home turn CHEVAL ARGENTE (A. Spinks) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SURAH SURAH (P. Cullen),which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey P. Cullen was reprimanded and advised to show greater care.

In the early part of the straight ASSERTIVE ALBERT (App. J. Orman) was held up and had to be steadied when disappointed after attempting a run between BLAME GAME (D. Missen) and ARCATRAN.

Stewards considered objections lodged by Jockey G. Kliese, the rider of WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS which finished 2nd, and Jockey D. Hayse, the rider of FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS which finished 3rd, against ARCATRAN (J. Felix) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 150 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official video films and acting on their own observations, in regard to the objection lodged by Jockey Hayse against the winner, stewards established that approaching the 120 metres ARCATRAN shifted out and carried WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS out onto FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS, which had to be steadied. Bearing in mind the margin between FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS and ARCATRAN at the finish and the proximity of the winning post, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS would have finished ahead of ARCATRAN. In the circumstances the protest by 3rd against the winner was dismissed. In regard to the protest by Jockey Kliese against ARCATRAN being declared the winner, stewards established that approaching the 120 metres WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS was racing approximately a head in front of ARCATRAN, which shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS, which became unbalanced. Having regard to the evidence stewards upheld the protest by Jockey Kliese and declared correct weight on the following placings: 1st WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS; 2nd ARCATRAN; 3rd FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS.

At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Felix pleaded to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that passing the 150 metres he permitted ARCATRAN to shift out abruptly and make heavy contact with WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS, which became extremely unbalanced and was carried out into the running of FAST ‘N’ FEROCIOUS, which had to be steadied. Jockey Felix was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight 21st June 2014, up to and including midnight 28th June 2014. In arriving at an appropriate penalty stewards took into account Jockey Felix’s good riding record and also the severity of the interference.

Over the concluding stages ASSERTIVE ALBERT raced in restricted room and could not be fully tested.

Race 7: - TPI Association North Queensland Cup Open Handicap – 1630 metres
1st – STEEL DRAGON 2nd – CASTLE EXPRESS 3rd – STRATO MOSTRO 4th – JUNEE BOY

KOOLASACAT (S. Pawsey) was slow to begin.

STRATO MOSTRO (C. Whiteley) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

In the early stages MIGHTY MITE (App. J. Orman) refused to settle when attempting to find cover close to the running rail.
