SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Cairns Jockey Club, Saturday 9th August 2014
Race 4: Myer Spring Fashions Class 1 Handicap – 950 metres
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into Jockey M. Pegus being dislodged from SERGEANT SHRIVER passing the 600 metres. Today evidence was taken from Jockey Pegus and Stipendiary Steward M. Haigh. After viewing the patrol films stewards established that leaving the 600 metres, whilst racing in a 4-deep position, SERGEANT SHRIVER blundered and dislodged its rider. Since that incident the Cairns Jockey Club has undertaken remedial work on the relevant section of the track.
GENERAL
Stewards today interviewed trainer B. Williams relating to the late declaration of riders for a number of his runners engaged at today’s meeting. Though stewards did not impose a penalty against Mr Williams, they were mindful of the fact that the large fields today provided limited options for trainers and that Mr Williams had made contact with the stewards on acceptance day, prior to jockey declaration. Nevertheless, Mr Williams was told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to declare riders sooner than he had on this occasion.
