Due to a clerical error the riders were not shown in the race book for Hurry Scurry and Queen Bodicea. B Stewart was the rider for both.
RACE: 1. Jon Paul (G Geran) and Kingpin (C Maund) jumped out at the start. To Make A Buck (J Haitana) jumped inward making contact with Essays (K Waller). Tyrant (M Lister) was slowly away. Leaving the 800 metres To Make A Buck was momentarily crowded by Kingpin, which rolled in. Jon Paul raced greenly throughout. Makin’ Tracks (G Colless) and Dash For Cover (M Cahill) which raced greenly once placed under pressure, made contact approaching the finish. Time off 6.51 PM.
RACE: 2. Trainer D Waller was fined the sum of $50 for not declaring the rider for Jillanity by the required time. Jillanity (M Cahill) jumped outward making contact with the gate. Videron (P Wolfgram) jumped in making contact with the gate. Near the 1000 metres Muffled Grey (B Stewart) got its head up whilst being steadied. Tipsy Lady (S Katsidis) was inclined to lay in, in the early and middle stages. Chariot’s Belle (M Lister) was inclined to lie out making the home turn. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Jillanity Jockey M Cahill stated that the filly had a good run throughout and traveled well until he attempted to go forward with the winner approaching the home turn at which time the filly was immediately under pressure and failed to respond, explanation noted. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the filly failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Time off 7.21 PM.
RACE: 3. Power Seeker (K Waller) and Maltese Power (M Cahill) jumped outward at the start. Deli’s Delight (S Katsidis) jumped in making contact with the gate. Hurry Scurry (B Stewart) and Flying Shoes (A Merritt) were slowly away. Shortly after the start Rapparee (R Goltz) and Flying Shoes made minor contact. Dane Beauty (C Maund) which jumped awkwardly and in got its head up near the 900 metres whilst being steadied. Approaching the 800 metres Rapparee got its head up whilst being steadied. On the home turn Hurry Scurry shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running. Time off 7.51 PM.
RACE: 4. Aussie Morning (G Geran), Always Irish (G Colless) and Forest Sprite (R Goltz) were slowly away. Always Irish shifted out on the home turn forcing Just At Knight (S Shield) and Aussie Morning wider on the track. Forest Sprite which was reluctant to take a run between Plausible (K Bell) and Always Irish near the 200 metres, shifted out over the concluding stages coming into contact with Just At Knight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Plausible Jockey K Bell stated that the gelding was very stirred up at the barrier, jumped awkwardly and then raced keenly and was inclined to lay out throughout. K Bell also stated that when he has ridden the gelding previously he has been very relaxed prior to and during running and responded when placed under pressure, explanation noted. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Time off 8.21 PM.
RACE: 5. Lucky Moments (G Colless) was withdrawn by Stewards on Veterinary advice at 8.53 PM. Connections were advice that a Veterinary Certificate was required for the gelding prior to starting again. Deductions on all win bets were paid less 13 cents in the $1 win and 14 cents in the $1 place. Classy Zip (K Mahoney) jumped awkwardly making heavy contact with the inside gate. Brilliant Spry (R Goltz) jumped awkwardly with its head in the air, losing considerable ground. Approaching the home turn Brilliant Spy was momentarily held up for clear running. No Intention (D Craven) returned to scale with blood in its mouth from a laceration to the tongue. Time off 8.53 PM.
RACE: 6. The start was delayed whilst Persian Empire (G Colless) was re-plated. At the start Atlanta Flyer (D Craven) and Macgillicuddy (C Symons) were hampered between Midnight Seas (T Dalton) which jumped outward and French Empire which jumped awkwardly and in. At the start Aunty Marg (S Warren) which jumped outward hampered Sassadash (D Green). Mrs. Mopps (M Lister) and Reignette (R Goltz) were slowly away. Shortly after the start French Empire was hampered by Macgillicuddy which was racing greenly. Red Gerard (S Shield) raced greenly in the early and middle stages. Reignette was inclined to lay in, in the early stages. Atlanta Flyer raced greenly throughout. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of French Empire Jockey G Colless stated that by not jumping well the colt was much further back than he would have liked. G Colless also stated that the colt never showed any dash in the run home and on face value it was a disappointing run, explanation noted. Time off 9.25 PM.
RACE: 7. Splendorizon (G Geran) which was fractious jumped awkwardly and in coming into contact with Chief Maasai (B Appo). Lady Casarina (J Warrington) jumped in the air as the gates opened. Shortly after the start Nabir Girl (P Wolfgram) dipped when making contact with Sahara Snaadee (G Colless). Miss Winona (S Katsidis) and Barbel (S Warren) were slowly away. Approaching the 800 and leaving the 800 metres Galaxy Defender (A Gillett) was hampered by Miss Winona which was racing greenly. Near the 500 metres Splendorizon was hampered by Galaxy Defender, which shifted out when being eased from the heels of Miss Winona. Barbel shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Time off 9.51 PM.
RACE: 8. Riotchee (G Geran), Comic Capers (G Lynch) and Paisley Park (D Green) were slowly away. Approaching the 1100 metres Queen Bodicea (B Stewart) got its head up when being eased. Approaching the home turn Riotchee was momentarily held up for clear running. Near the 300 metres Riotchee made contact with God’s Sign (M Lister) when taken outward by El Paseo (S Katsidis) which had ducked in initially. Near the 250 metres Queen Bodicea was momentarily crowded by Counter Attack (M Cahill) which shifted in. Audrey Ann (M Dorrington) returned to scale with a minor laceration to the off hind. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Queen Bodicea Jockey B Stewart stated that the filly had a good run throughout but once placed under pressure failed to run on. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the filly failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Our Culprit (D Craven) which performed disappointingly shifted his off fore plate during running. Trainer P Duff reported that the gelding was very lame when he cooled down. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Zeus Thunder Bolt Jockey M Aspinall stated that after being caught wide without cover in the early stages the gelding pulled hard and he had no option apart from allowing the gelding to stride forward and race outside the leader. M Aspinall also stated that he is of the opinion that the gelding would be much better suited if he raced with cover in the early stages, explanation noted. Time off 10.21 PM.
