TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB
19th February 2000

STEWARD IN CHARGE : J Childs
STEWARDS : P Reardon, C Clifford, C Reibelt

Weather: Fine Track: Good Rail: 4 Metres

RACE: 1. NOBLE UNIVERSE (R. Goltz) which was slowly away, got its head in the air whilst racing keenly in the early and middle stages. Shortly after the start KOHINOOR BLUE (S. Killen) was severely hampered between MATTER OF TIME (G. Geran) which shifted in and NIKKI TEE (D. Craven) which shifted out. MATTER OF TIME raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance of SHOWDOWN LAD (G. Lynch), tnr W. Ingram reported that since the gelding’s disappointing runs at his two previous starts he has freshened the horse up and is of the opinion that he may be best suited trained in this manner. Explanation noted. Time off 4.07 p.m.

RACE: 2. Jky A. Pattillo who failed to arrive on course by the required time was replaced by M. Dorrington (LINDA LUSH LIPS). Stewards accepted A. Pattillo’s explanation. At the start CHIP IT IN (G. Lynch) which took fright when MANDORA (P. Gesler) kicked the gates lunged forward striking the front gate with its head. HEY BANJO (B. Appo) which was slowly away was hampered shortly after by MANDORA, which was taken out by CHIP IT IN (G. Lynch) which jumped outward. LINDA LUSH LIPS (M. Dorrington) which jumped awkwardly made contact with the outside gate. Leaving the 550m QUEEN JUDE (N. Tomizawa) rolled out making contact with ARATULA (C. Small). KING SALUTE (K. Waller) which was held up for clear running from the 500m, shifted out approaching the 250m to obtain a clear run, momentarily hampering ARATULA and BABY SPICE (D. Craven). Chip It In returned to scale with blood in both nostrils. A Subsequent Veterinary inspection of Chip It In revealed that he had sustained and injury to the bridge of the nose and an abrasion above an eye. Stewards did not note Chip It In as a bleeder as the Veterinary surgeon was content that the blood in both nostrils was caused by external trauma. Time off 4.48 p.m.

RACE: 3. MR. DICKENS (R. Goltz) and HAND GRENADE (D Craven) made contact on jumping. RISING CURRENCY (K. Waller) jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start NAVARRA RAMBLER (A. Lane) shifted in coming into contact with WOODCUTTER (M. Dorrington). Leaving the 900m CLASSIC CLICHÉ (P. Gesler) shifted out to avoid the heels of NOBLE JEWELS (D.Green). Leaving the 750m MR. DICKENS brushed the fence of its own accord. Approaching the 100m MR. DICKENS was steadied from the heels of WOODCUTTER, which shifted in under pressure. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MR. DICKENS jockey R. Goltz stated that the horse had a good run throughout but once placed under pressure leaving the 500m he failed to respond. Tnr E. Hayes stated that the gelding would now be sent for a spell. Explanation accepted. Time off 5.25 p.m.

RACE: 4. At the start ZAPATEADO (J. Baker) jumped out making heavy contact with MAGADI (K. Waller) which then made heavy contact with CASHAH (A. Lane). Tnr C. Craven). Near the 400m THE DRUIDESS (D. Green) was steadied from the heels of BLACK SAILS (J. Baker) which shifted out marginally. GOLDEN EYE (N. Tomizawa) which was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages brushed JAZZY’S JEWEL (G. Lynch). Time off 6.35 p.m.

At the start ASHLEIGH’S LUCK (J. Warrington) was hampered between GOLDEN VISTA (K. Waller) which jumped outward and POP’S LUCK (S. Killen) which jumped inward. GIRL’S EXPENSE (G. Geran) jumped in making contact with MORNING GHOST (J. Felix) which then made contact with ADAWAY (J. Baker). Shortly after ADAWAY shifted in abruptly taking CHANTAL PARK in. Leaving the 800m LADY SANTAJ (M. Paget) was momentarily crowded for room by GOLDEN VISTA. Near the 700m ASHLEIGH’S LUCK, which was racing keenly, was eased from the heels of POP’S LUCK. Approaching the home turn MORNING GHOST rolled in hampering CHANTAL PARK. Approaching the home turn MORNING GHOST shifted out abruptly forcing ADAWAY and NOTHING BUT DUST wider on the track. Approaching the 250m ADAWAY was eased from the heels of CHANTAL PARK, which was taken out by GIRL’S EXPENSE, which raced ungenerously throughout. GOLDEN VISTA had difficulty obtaining a clear run in the home straight. Time off 7.57 p.m.
