Rail: 6 Meters 1300 Meters - 500 Meters. 8 Meters 500 Meters - 1300 Meters
RACE: 1. H Akiyama had a harmless fall behind the barriers from his mount Burgee. Burgee, which was recaptured in the 1300m chute, was subsequently inspected by the veterinary surgeon that passed him fit to take his place in the field. King Of Clubs (N. Evans), Miss McBeal (B. Swanton) and Grey Dynasty (R. Goltz) were slowly away. Burgee which jumped in made contact with Petalt (A. Parramore). Petalt, which was inclined to lie in, brushed the running rail on the home turn. Another Jazzy (D Green) which raced greenly throughout returned to scale with a small laceration inside of the cheek. Jockey R. Goltz who was hit on the forehead by a clod at the 700m was subsequently examined by the Ambulance Officer and cleared to fulfill his engagements. Time off 3.59 p.m.
RACE: 2. N Evans (Magadi) replaced B Carne. Stewards accepted the explanation of B Carne why she failed to fulfill her engagement. Magadi and Brave Mac (B Appo) were slowly away. Sudden Treasure (R. Goltz) which jumped in made contact with Briar’s Army (A. Lane). Time off 4.34 p.m.
RACE: 3. Semi Disco (G. Geran) was slowly away. Nearing the 850m Prince Ashton (B. Swanton) which was laying in, made contact with Shedad’s Bounty (L. Karklis). Leaving the 400m Prince Ashton was eased from the heels of Shedad’s Bounty, which was taken out by Semi Disco. D. Green (Special Silver) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 100m causing Might Be Gold (M. Smith-Lester) to be taken in making contact with Immilustig (A. Parramore). Style Queen (A. Lane) which shifted out over the concluding stages made contact with Special Silver (D. Green). All Native (B. Carne) was held up for clear running over the final stages. Time off 5.15 p.m.
RACE: 4. At the start Adjusted (J. Walk), Tune To (G. Geran), Concert (J. Warrington) and Tasharna Lady (S. Thurlow) were all hampered between Kaimiola (B. Swanton) which jumped out and Shedad Magic (D. Green) which jumped in and continued to hang in for some distance. At the 850m Tasharna Lady was steadied from the heels of Great Expectations (A. Parramore) which was taken out by Adjusted. Tune To (G. Geran) hung out rounding the home turn. Time off 5.50 p.m.
RACE: 5. Ole Sundowner (C. Spry) was slowly away. Approaching the 1200m Only The Strong (S. Apthorpe) was eased from the heels of Devil’s Lair (B. Swanton). When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of No Narv Measures jockey A. Parramore stated his mount traveled well until placed under pressure leaving the 600m at which time she failed to respond. A. Parramore also stated that the stable foreman advised him prior to the race that No Harv Measures was not at her best on a track that has been affected by rain, explanation noted. A subsequent veterinary inspection of No Harv Measures revealed no abnormalities. Time off 6.28 p.m.
RACE: 6. Tigers (B. Appo) which was slowly away, hung out for the first 100m. Touch By Pedro (D. Green) blundered on jumping. Pinball Wizard (R. Goltz) blundered on making the crossing. Near the 1300m Diamond Zoff (A. Parramore) got its head up momentarily whilst being eased. The saddle on Italian Express slipped forward at the 1300m. placing jockey M. Smith-Lester at a disadvantage throughout the race. Time off 7.05 p.m.
RACE: 7. Lough Donnasea (H. Akiyama) jumped in the air as the gates opened. Brandy Success (S. Apthorpe) and Roaring Fork (N. Evans) were slowly away. At the 800 m. Brandy Success was eased from the heels of Roaring Fork when taken out by D’Antilles (G. Geran) which hung out throughout the race. Trainer J Atkins was advised a warning is being placed on the colt. Lough Donnasea was inclined to lie out from the 900 meters until rounding the home turn. Stewards inquired into the reason H Akiyama was dislodged from Lough Donnasea on the point of the home turn. After taking evidence from Riders H Akiyama, N Evans (Roaring Fork), L Karklis (Sea Missy) and Trainer G Cross master of N Evans. Stewards charged N Evans with careless riding and subsequently adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed on a request from Mr. G Cross to enable Jockeys J Warrington and W Orbell to be present to give evidence. Time off 7.40 p.m.
All winners were swabbed.
24/04/01: Trainer P Nolan reported that Jon Paul received a laceration to the outside of the off fore during the running of the Maiden handicap at Toowoomba 14/04/01.
26/04/01: Trainer A Bruggemann reported that Wall's Gift was galloped on during the running of the Class 2 Handicap at Toowoomba 21/04/01.
