STEWARDS: J Childs (Chairman), R Doyle, P Reardon, L Wheeldon, D Wann

Weather: Fine Track: Good Rail: 3 metres

RACE: 1. Hot Promise, which was fractious in the barriers, returned to scale with lacerations to the near hind cannon. Time off 4.08 p.m.

RACE: 2. Royal Successor was very slowly away. Asmadas, Wings On Turf and The Ants Pants dwelt as the gates opened. Cariboo Creek, which dwelt as the gates opened raced greenly throughout. Approaching the 600 metres Rangers which was taken in by Covet Love (L Deguara) made contact with the hindquarters of Petalt. L Deguara was advised of her responsibilities when shifting ground. On the point of the home turn Covet Love which was taken out by Raw Action (N Tomizawa) made heavy contact with Cariboo Creek. Covet Love then shifted in making heavy contact with Raw Action. N Tomizawa was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out. Jockey G O’Sullivan (The Ants Pants) was found guilty of a careless riding charge. The careless riding being that near the 150 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Raw Action causing that horse to be taken out, forcing Covet Love out and onto the heels of Cariboo Creek. Resulting in both Covet Love and Raw Action being checked when tightened for room between Cariboo Creek and The Ants Pants. G O’Sullivan was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings to take affect as of mid – night 20/05/01 and to expire at mid – night 31/05/01. Time off 4.47 p.m.

RACE: 3. Macedon Affairs and Hello Pumpkin made contact on jumping. At the start Nathan Citadel which jumped awkwardly was hampered between Raw Force which jumped out and Game Set Match which jumped in. On jumping Silverthorne (C Maund) blundered and shifted in making heavy contact with Shasheed. Leaving the 800 metres Miss Brunhilde lost ground when taken out and onto the hindquarters of Raw Force by Shasheed which was taken out by Macedon Affairs which shifted out whilst hanging out. P Gesler was reminded of her responsibilities when shifting ground. Miss Brunhilde was held up for clear running over the concluding stages. The starter reported that Silverthorne pulled his off fore plate off on jumping. When questioned why Silverthorne was retired from the race on the home turn. Jockey C Maund stated that after his mount blundered on jumping his mount was reluctant to stretch out and continued to lose ground giving him the impression that his mount had sustained an injury on jumping, explanation noted. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the horse failed to reveal any apparent abnormality and the only reason at this stage that could be given is that the gelding’s performance was affected by the incident at the start. Time off 5.21 p.m.

Shannon Star, which was fractious, jumped in the air as the gates opened. Leaving the 1100 metres Dunbar was inclined to race ungenerously whilst being eased. Hulious, which shifted in and away from Bartok, laid on Dunbar for some distance leaving the 850 metres. Shannon Star was eased from heels leaving the 800 and 400 metres. Leaving the 400 metres Dalveen Dancer was forced wider on the track by Will Risk. Will Risk then raced ungenerously for a short distance. Leaving the 400 metres Star Contract and Summit City were held up for clear running. On the point of the home turn Shannon Star made contact with Hulious when taken out by Dunbar which was taken out by Cool Magi which was hanging out. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Hulious. Jockey C Maund stated that he was instructed to ride his mount in the first 4 in the early stages and after being slowly away he had to ride his mount hard to take up a forward position and was forced to race wide up the hill.
