TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT 26TH JANUARY 2002

RACE 1: CLIFFORD PARK CATERING MAIDEN H'CAP – 900M.

BELLE SHY was slowly away.

Approaching the 750m BELLE SHY was eased from the heels of SPACE WING, which shifted out to avoid the heels of MOOKTA MAN.

SPACE WING continued to shift out forcing SHEER FRIGHT wider on the track.

Near the 550m SHEER FRIGHT was steadied from the heels of SPACE WING, which shifted out.

Time off 4.04 pm.

RACE 2: SUPER QRIS CHAMPIONSHIP RACE SERIES 2-Y-O FILLIES H'CAP – 1203M.

WESTERN SUCCESS and MONACO MISS made contact on jumping.

PIQUANTE, which jumped in making heavy contact with the gate, shifted out shortly after.

Time off 4.45 pm.

RACE 3: CLIFFORD PARK MARQUEE WEDDINGS CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1303M.

On returning to scale M. Dorrington the rider of 5th placegetter MARCASITE lodged an objection against MISTER EDITION being declared 4th on grounds of alleged interference leaving the 150m. After taking evidence from riders, connections and viewing of the patrol film Stewards dismissed the objection, as they believed that the degree of interference did not warrant the placing being changed taking into account the margin between both horses at the finish.

At a subsequent inquiry R. Kerwin (MISTER EDITION) was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift out leaving the 150m, which resulted in MARCASITE being eased and obliged to change direction to the inside of MISTER EDITION to obtain clear running.

CALLED IT ANYTHING jumped awkwardly.

STRANGE CONFLICT was slowly away.

MARCASITE, which jumped with its head in the air continued to race with it up for some distance.

PEDRO’S POWER raced wide from the 700m.

Time off 5.20 pm.

RACE 4: AUSTRALIA DAY CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1303M.

HANCOCK which pulled its off-hind plate off and then stood on it, was withdrawn by Stewards on Veterinary advice at 5.12 p.m.

FARISIKNOW and NAROO made contact on jumping.

Approaching the 550m NAROO shifted in making contact with FARISIKNOW.

On the point of the home turn FARISIKNOW was eased from the heels of RHELL LOVE.

SPRUNG BAD was forced to race wide throughout.

Leaving the 100m C. Spry (SPRUNG BAD) dropped his whip.

Time off 5.55 pm.

RACE 5: CLIFFORD PARK FUNCTION CENTRE CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1605M.

L Morrison (BAY DUKE) dropped her whip on jumping.

Approaching the 1200m CITY MISSION was eased when crowded for room between BAY DUKE and THE APACHE KID, which shifted out whilst pulling hard.

THE APACHE KID continued to pull hard for some distance.

Leaving the 400m FLYING EMAC, which shifted out made contact with BAY DUKE.

Near the 250m BAY DUKE, which shifted in made contact with CITY MISSION.

Shortly after BAY DUKE made contact with HELLO PUMKIN when taken out by CITY MISSION, which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Stewards inquired into the reason KOHINOOR BLUE blundered shortly after the start. After taking evidence from A Parramore (KOHINOOR BLUE), D Green (SPECIAL SILVER), G Geran (FLYING EMAC), J Warrington (KWILA STAR), R Kerwin (MARAUDING LASS) and L Morrison (BAY DUKE), it was established that KOHINOOR BLUE clipped the heels of FLYING EMAC, which was taken out by SPECIAL SILVER, which jumped awkwardly and out and continued to shift out for some distance despite the efforts of its rider.

Time off 6.34 pm.

RACE 6: CLIFFORD PARK CORPORATE VENUES MAIDEN H'CAP – 1203M.

Due to a misunderstanding the rider for THE BIG POND was not shown in the race book.

SILVER SHEPHERD was withdrawn by Stewards acting on Veterinary advice at 7.12 p.m. Deductions on all win bets were paid less 5c in the $1 win, less 5c in the $1 place.

Trainer R Stephenson was advised that a Veterinary clearance was required for SILVER SHEPHERD prior to its next start.

THE BIG POND was slowly away.

Approaching the 800m FORMAL AFFAIR, which was racing keenly was eased from the heels of SKILFUL NIGHT.

Near the 550m TALK ABOUT REAL got its head up whilst being eased from the heels of HATTA BELLE.

Approaching the 300m HATTA BELLE shifted out forcing DIPPERMOUTH wider on the track.

Time off 7.13pm.

RACE 7: CLIFFORD PARK FUND RAISERS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1203M.

ASCOT BLUE was slowly away.

PETALT, which jumped awkwardly and out made contact with ZENOBIA.

PETALT raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Near the 850m DUNBAR and PETALT made contact.

Near the 100m PETALT and ZENOBIA were steadied when ASCOT BLUE (L McCoy) shifted out. L McCoy was reminded of her obligations when her mount is shifting ground.

When questioned about the disappointing performance of ZENOBIA apprentice M Kawaguchi stated that he had intended to ride his mount in behind the leader but elected to go back when he was going to be caught wide. He also stated that he had his mount was under pressure from the 550m at which time his mount failed to respond. A subsequent Veterinary examination of ZENOBIA failed to reveal any abnormality.

Time off 7.51 pm.
