BLUE INTENT, which jumped away awkwardly, hung out at the 550m.
Shortly after the start OUR GIRL ANNIE and RESERVE RAIDER made contact.
OUR GIRL ANNIE and MAYNE DEGREE hung in in the early stages.
SLIDE hung out rounding the home turn.

RACE 2: QTIS 2-Y-O MAIDEN H'CAP – 1012M.
Stewards accepted the explanation of Jockey C Eaton why she was declared on both REGINA’S BEST and FAST FLIGHT. R Morris was the replacement rider for FAST FLIGHT.
At the start BITABIFF lost ground when tightened for room between CANDY APPLE ROSE and REGINA’S BEST, which was taken out by BUDDY SEQUALO, which jumped out.
MILL CREEK, DEAMARVA and KALINGA TIGER were slowly away.
FAST FLIGHT jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.
Approaching the 800m REGINA’S BEST and CANDY APPLE ROSE were forced wider on the track by BUDDY SEQUALO, which was lying out.
Leaving the 800m BITABIFF was eased when tightened for room between KALINGA TIGER and DANISH MIST (B Appo), which shifted in. B Appo was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
Approaching the 750m MILL CREEK was crowded for room between DANISH MIST, which was taken out marginally by KALINGA TIGER and PROTEST VOTE, which shifted in marginally, resulting in MILL CREEK blundering when striking the heels of PROTEST VOTE.
Approaching the 100m DANE PRINCE shifted in and made contact with IV’S CHANCE.
The saddle on FAST FLIGHT shifted back during running.

RACE 3: QTIS 2-Y-O MAIDEN H'CAP - 1012M.
Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer B Squair why the rider for GENTLY BRED was not declared by the required time.
Trainer C Richardson was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for KALINGA COUNTY by the required time.
AUSSIE ODYSSEY (A Erhart), which dislodged the rider on the way to the barriers, was caught after going a short distance. A subsequent veterinary examination of AUSSIE ODYSSEY cleared the colt to take its place in the field.
At the start LIVELY MUSIC, which dwelt was severely checked when tightened for room between BLUE OYSTER, which jumped out and DANTINA, which jumped in. BLUE OYSTER and DANTINA made heavy contact in this incident, which resulted in BLUE OYSTER being taken in and blundering when striking the heels of GENTLY BRED.
At the start CONDY’S CRYSTAL was hampered by KALINGA COUNTY, which jumped awkwardly and in.
SPELL SONG and NIGHT TIME GAL were slowly away.
Shortly after the start NICK’S SHOWDOWN shifted in abruptly.
Near the 800m NICK’S SHOWDOWN was eased when crowded for room by PRESS TO WIN, which shifted in whilst being steadied.
Leaving the 500m AUSSIE ODYSSEY was severely checked from the heels of the tiring GENTLY BRED, which shifted in whilst hanging in, despite the efforts of its rider. PRESS TO WIN, which was following shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of AUSSIE ODYSEY, which resulted in LIVELY MUSIC blundering when striking the heels of PRESS TO WIN.
Shortly after CONDY’S CRYSTAL was eased when taken in by LIVELY MUSIC.
Leaving the 400m BLAZING DONNA was eased from the heels of AUSSIE ODYSSEY.
KALINGA COUNTY hung out throughout.
GENTLY BRED returned to scale with a laceration to the hind leg. A veterinary examination of GENTLY BRED failed to reveal any other abnormality.
Trainer B Squair was advised that GENTLY BRED, which tired badly and hung in, is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.

RACE 4: PAUL HANNANT MEMORIAL H'CAP – 1113M.
AVON JEWEL and LORD KARIOI made contact on jumping.
AULD HAT was slowly away.
On the point of the home turn ROYAL ENTOURAGE was steadied from the heels of MORINGA’S MANDRAKE, which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Time off 5.45 PM.
RACE 5: QRSE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1213M.
STEWARDS accepted the explanation of Apprentice J McKinnon why he was declared on both TEMPLE JACK and CENTATEL. L Roberts was the replacement rider for CENTATEL.
TOMS DANCER was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 6.24 pm. Deductions on all win bets were paid less 16 cents in the $1 win and 14 cents in the place.
TEMPLE JACK was very fractious in the barriers.
TROPIQUALO jumped out making contact with RAPT IN SILVER, which then shifted out abruptly.
GENALTA jumped out coming into contact with CENTATEL.
ECHO LAD and PALAB were slowly away.
Approaching the 1000m QUITE ASTUTE (G McKeon) and UNISTAR (R Maund) were both checked when tightened for room by TEMPLE JACK (J McKinnon), which was taken in by TROPIQUALO (L Fyfe), which was racing to the inside of RAPT IN SILVER (N Evans). At a subsequent inquiry N Evans was severely reprimanded for initially taking TROPIQUALO in and onto TEMPLE JACK, which got its head up whilst being eased. N Evans was given the benefit of a reasonable doubt as to whether he was responsible for QUITE ASTUTE and UNISTAR being checked.
Near the 250 m TROPIQUALO shifted out and made contact with TEMPLE JACK.
RAPT IN SILVER shifted out over the concluding stages.
The blinkers on TEMPLE JACK slipped down over his near side eye during running.
Time off 6.25 PM.
RACE 6: QRSE CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1520M.
MISTER KOSTYA was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 11.27 am.
Trainer M Currie was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for LAWSON HILL by the required time.
TELTREE was slowly away.
Leaving the 1300m for some distance LAWSON HILL was eased from heels of SPOT ON ALICE as the pace steadied.
LAWSON HILL was held up for clear running from the 400m until the early stages of the home straight.
On the point of the home turn THROW A HEART was steadied from the heels of SPOT ON ALICE, which was taken out by ROLLING ALONG, which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Time off 7.06 PM.
RACE 7: MICHAEL NEEVES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1313M.
Trainer J Allen was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for CENTUZA BOY by the required time.
Leaving the 1000m PEARL OF PICOLLO raced ungenerously for a shortly distance whilst racing between ROLLING DESTINY and JACK’S SHOUT.
TEST IN TIME was held up for clear running from the 500m until the early stages of the home straight and again over the last 150m.
On the point of the home turn PERVIN was eased when crowded for room between OBE WAN KENOBI (M Tarrant), which shifted out and MUSICAL COMEDY. M Tarrant was advised of his obligations when his mount is shifting ground.
PERVIN, which was taken in over the concluding stages by MUSICAL COMEDY (L Fyfe), was eased approaching the finish. L Fyfe was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
MUSICAL COMEDY raced wide throughout.
Time off 7.42 PM.
RACE 8: SEVEN TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN PLATE – 1012M.
M Tarrant (ROYAL CHICANE) replaced J Hoopert who was injured when his mount reared over in the parade yard. The start of the race was delayed for 8 minutes whilst M Tarrant was weighed out. J Hoopert was transported to hospital for further treatment.
UNIVERSAL DREAMER, which jumped awkwardly, was steadied shortly after when crowded for room between ZOOLANDER and TOO TOUGH, which jumped in.
WINDEYER and SIR ATTITUDE were slowly away.
At 550m ZOOLANDER made contact with the running rail when taken in by ROYAL CHICANE, which was taken in by SAHARA NOBLE (S Aizawa), which shifted in momentarily. S Aizawa was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
The breastplate on COMEBACK SISTER broke during running, resulting in the saddle slipping back.
Apprentice E Hooper (BLU AURA) pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge, the careless riding being that near the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ROYAL CHICANE causing that horse to be taken in onto TOO TOUGH, which was taken onto ZOOLANDER, which shifted in onto MINDINI resulting in MINDINI being severely checked. E Hooper was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings to take effect as of mid – night 10-04-04 and to expire at mid – night 21-04-04.
