RACE 1: ALQUIP 2-Y-O MAIDEN H'CAP – 900M.
Trainer J Bannon was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for JUST A SNUGGLE by the required time.
CARNABY STAR jumped out as the gates opened.
LIBRE PISTE and FORTUNE’S FOLLY jumped away awkwardly.
STONETOWN STAR laid out rounding the home turn.
ENCIERRO shifted out over the concluding stages.

RACE 2: LEN PATTI MITSUBISHI MAIDEN H'CAP – 1009M.
RHYTHMS BOY stood flat – footed as the gates opened losing considerable ground. Trainer’s representative was advised that RHYTHMS BOY is required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next start.
PACK OF POWER, jumped in making contact with GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS.
Shortly after the start ADMIRAL’S AFFAIR shifted in and away from WOMBY LEE, which was taken in by SUPREME APPEAL.
Shortly after the start GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS was eased from the heels of BELTESA, which shifted out.
Near the 900m GUN YAH GOLD was crowded for room between RARULLAH, which shifted in and PACK OF POWER, which shifted out.
Approaching the 800m ADMIRAL’S AFFAIR was eased from heels.
Approaching the 550m GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS got its head up whilst being eased from the heels of PACK OF POWER, which was racing greenly.
Leaving the 400m TISKET LAD was eased from heels.
Near the 400m RARULLAH was forced wider on the track by GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS, which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Near the 350m RARULLAH and GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS were forced wider on the track by PACK OF POWER, which shifted out.
WHISPERING SMITH hung out once placed under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 3: PAT O’SHEA / RADIO 4WK CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1009M.
M Carson was shown in the racebook as the rider of DOTSWOOD instead of R Goltz.
FLUTE FAIRY and DESTINY MAGIC, which broke through the front of the barriers, were quickly restrained. A subsequent veterinary examination of both horses cleared both to take their place in the field.
EFTPOS jumped out taking REGAL DRAW onto DOTSWOOD.
Near the 800m MERVYN was eased when tightened for room between DIAGON DUCHES and DASH OF AMBER, which was taken in initially by CROWN APPROVAL (R Pittman). R Pittman was then unable to relieve the pressure as FLUTE FAIRY and WARIALDA HONEY had taken up a tight position to his outside.
Leaving the 800m EFTPOS was eased from the heels of WARIALDA HONEY, which shifted out.
DOTSWOOD was obliged to raced wide throughout.
G Geran (DIAGON DUCHESS) was unable to test his mount in the home straight as his saddle shifted to the near side at the 400m.

RACE 4: GLEN MCCULLOUGH / TOOWOOMBA CHRONICLE CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1110M.
SIR WINTERWOOD lost ground when it jumped with its head in the air.
PINK PONTIAC and BORDEAUX HOPPER were slowly away.
Near the 850m CUT IT OUT got its head up whilst being eased.
Near the 850m SIR WINTERWOOD was momentarily crowded for room by ECSTASY, which shifted in.
Near the 100m VAIN AND HANDY and BON VIVEUR were tightened for room between PINK PONTIAC (J Warrington), which shifted out and CUT IT OUT (R Goltz), which shifted in and away from ECSTASY.
BORDEAUX HOPPER was held up for clear running from leaving the 500m until the early stages of the home straight.

VAIN AND HANDY was obliged to race wide throughout.

RACE 5: QRSE HAPPY 50TH CELY BARLETTA CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1210M.
CARCORY, VIDEO HITS and AREPO were slowly away.
Near the 900m AREPO was eased when taken in by THROW A HEART (B APPO). B Appo was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear.
Leaving the 900m SALAD SANDWICH was racing in restricted room to the inside of DO AS I SAY, which was taken in by MISS GLORYHUNTER, which was lying in. SALAD SANDWICH lost ground when it was reluctant to hold its position, resulting in DOUBLE JOKER shifting out abruptly to avoid the heels of SALAD SANDWICH. VIDEO HITS, which was following was eased from the heels of DOUBLE JOKER.
AREPO hung out rounding the home turn.
GEORGE THOMAS was taken wide rounding the home turn by EASTWEST WISDOM, which hung out from the 500m.
R Goltz (MAGIC WIN) was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the finish.

RACE 6: JAMES O’SHEA / WIN SPORT CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1310M.
HOBEAU lost ground when it blundered on jumping.
At the start EBONY TOUCH was tightened for room between SEND A COVE, which jumped in and BROWN BRIDGE, which jumped out.
TANAH MERA was slowly away.
Leaving the 950m BROWN BRIDGE got its head up and over – raced for some distance.
Approaching the 400m TANAH MERA shifting out taking CILL AIRNE’S GHOST onto SPOT ON ALICE.
Leaving the 400m HOBEAU was steadied when cramped for room to the inside of ULTRA
MODERN.
SEND A COVE laid out once placed under pressure in the home straight.
JYI’S PROSPECT raced wide throughout.
CILL AIRNE’S GHOST was obliged to race wide throughout.

RACE 7: CONRAD TREASURY BRISBANE MAIDEN PLATE - 1615M.
MISTER AJAX (T Ono), which fell over in the parade yard was subsequently cleared by the veterinary surgeon. T Ono was not injured in the incident. MISTER AJAX was again vetted on arrival at the barriers and was subsequently cleared to start.
MISTER AJAX, FLOOR BOARDS and ASPENITA were slowly away.
Near the 1400m PRINCE ALBA was steadied from the heels of RETENTION, which shifted in.
CANA BOY and MAJOR STAR both raced keenly in the early stages.
Approaching the 1100m RETENTION was eased from heels as the pace slowed.
Approaching the 400m PEARL OF PICCOLO was eased when tightened for room between ASPENITA and THE PROMS (W Cook), which shifted out to obtain clear running. W Cook was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear.
Near the 350m ALANOR LASS was buffeted between CANA BOY and MAJOR STAR, resulting in ALANOR LASS losing ground. MAJOR STAR became unbalanced in the incident.

ALL WINNERS WERE SWABBED.
17th May 2004. Trainer P Nolan advised stewards that MISTER AJAX, which has been racing disappointingly, has been diagnosed with a wind problem. Mr Nolan also reported that on the advice of the veterinary surgeon he intends to try the horse with a tongue – tie.
18th May 2004. Stewards inquired into the reason Apprentice C Thomson was dislodged from DAME NOVA in heat 5 of the Toowoomba Barrier Trials on 18/05/04. Stewards took evidence from riders M Tarrant (ROYAL COUNTY), L Morrison (RAW IMPULSE), C Thomson (DAME NOVA), D Hutchins (FORTUNAIR), K Banks (RABBUNI), C Bumstead (CHRISTMAS HANDOUT), G Lynch (CROWN SILVER), M Price (JEWEL OF THE RANCH) and R Goltz (LINCOLN ROAD). It was established on the evidence that was put forward by the riders that DAME NOVA was travelling well and when being eased hung out onto the heels of JEWEL OF THE RANCH, resulting in DAME NOVA blundering when striking the heels of JEWEL OF THE RANCH. Stewards were of the opinion that no rider was to blame for the incident.
