Race 1:XXXX Gold Class 1 H'cap – 1100m

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer R. Lipp in relation to the late engagement of R. Goltz as the rider of OBLIVIATE.

Near the 700m, OBLIVIATE (R. Goltz) was checked to avoid the heels of PARTY SPIN (G. Geran), which shifted in marginally. As a result, OBLVIATE became unbalanced and shifted in, making contact with the running rail and then shifted out, forcing TREASURE MAP (K. Yoshida) wider on the track. G. Geran, rider of PARTY SPIN, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

SKYTANA (R. Ride) made contact with the running rail near the 600m.

PARTY SPIN was held up for clear running and unable to improve from the 500m until a point leaving the 300m where G. Geran, rider of PARTY SPIN, was forced to shift to the outside to obtain clear running.

A post race veterinary examination of SKYTANA revealed the gelding had been galloped on on the inside of the off hindleg.

Race 2: Wimmers Soft Drinks Class 1 H'cap – 1625m

BOLD EMBRACE (R. Ride) stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground and then raced very keenly in the early and middle stages.

COUNTY GOLD (B. Stower) raced keenly during the early and middle stages and made the turn near the 1300m wide.

S. Apthorpe, rider of ESTEVEZ, reported that his saddle shifted forward at a point near the 1300m, placing him at a slight disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

STEEL TO THE HEEL (C. Spry) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

CAZNOT (B. Appo) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight until a point approaching the 200m where B. Appo, rider of CAZNOT, shifted to the outside to obtain clear running.

Near the 200m, ESTEVEZ (S. Apthorpe), which was tiring, was tightened for room between COUNTY GOLD and DINA’S DRAGON (G. Geran), which shifted in under pressure whilst being ridden along. G. Geran, rider of DINA’S DRAGON, was reprimanded for this incident and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

ESTEVEZ (S. Apthorpe) and SKILFUL PAT (A. Fancourt) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

A post race veterinary examination of AFRICAN CHILD revealed a small wound on the front of the off hindleg.

Race 3: Qld Electrical Solutions Deck BM75 H'cap – 1625m

Leaving the 900m, VIVAHEART (J. Letherby) shifted out from behind HILLARY’S CLANG (K. Yoshida), resulting in TO THE NORTH (B. Evans) being forced to race 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

On return to scale, jockey B. Evans advised stewards that TO THE NORTH raced a little one-paced and failed to sprint as he had expected when placed under pressure from the 500m. He added that connections indicated that in future starts the gelding may compete in races over a further distance than tonight’s event. Trainer B. Currie expressed disappointment with the gelding’s performance tonight and advised he would have TO THE NORTH scoped, the results of which he would report to stewards prior to its next race start.

Race 4: Save The Date Weetwood 12 April Class 2 H'cap – 1300m

ITALA PRINCE (C. Spry) and COMMANDER BOLTZ (T. Banks) were both slow to begin.

Near the 900m, ITALA PRINCE (C. Spry) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of COMMANDER BOLTZ, which laid in despite the efforts of its rider.

Rounding the home turn, LASERJACK (B. Newport) shifted out under pressure, resulting in HANDFUL OF SILVER (M. McGillivray) being forced wider on the track.

JUST A ROCKSTAR (D. McIntosh) and HANDFUL OF SILVER both raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned B. Newport in relation to the tactics adopted and overall performance of LASERJACK tonight. Apprentice Newport advised that after beginning well he was able to obtain a forward position outside GINGER EXPRESS (R. Ride), however the gelding commenced to overrace for the majority of the event. He further advised that when placed under pressure from the 500m, the gelding failed to respond to his riding, shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn and proved somewhat disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of LASERJACK revealed the gelding to have a poor post race recovery.

Trainer M. Kropp expressed disappointment with the performance of LASERJACK tonight, however felt that the gelding’s tendency to overrace during the middle stages of the event was the major contributor to the poor performance. Mr Kropp further advised that for future starts he may consider amending the horse’s gear with the possibility of adding a tongue-tie. Mr Kropp undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that comes to light in the coming days that may have had a bearing on tonight’s performance. With respect to the tactics adopted on LASERJACK tonight, stewards advised apprentice Newport that whilst it did appear LASERJACK had a tendency to overrace during the early and middle stages, he would be expected to make a greater effort to restrain the gelding as they were of the view that this would have assisted the gelding in finishing the race off stronger than it did tonight. Stewards further advised apprentice Newport that he must make a more concerted effort to ensure his runners don’t shift wider on the track rounding the home turn as there appeared to be a lack of effort to prevent LASERJACK from shifting out on this occasion.

Race 5: Strathayr QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m

HORNIBROOK (A. Fancourt) was presented to race with pacifiers, which were not part of that horse’s advertised gear. Under an assurance from trainer T. Crane that he had enacted a gear change of pacifiers on for HORNIBROOK, stewards acceded to a request to allow the gelding to race in that gear. Stewards will conduct further inquiries with Trainers Service Centre with respect to this matter.

SNIP INTO TOWN (S. Bogenhuber), GOLD PAN (B. Stower) and BARAKULA (C. Spry) were tightened for room at the start between RAZZLING DAZZLER (M. McGillivray) and CHASING THE DRAGON (R. Goltz), which shifted out.

Near the 1000m, SNIP INTO TOWN shifted out and away marginally from CHASING THE DRAGON, resulting in SNIP INTO TOWN making contact with GOLD PAN, which became unbalanced.

At the 900m, LEPRECHAUN LAD (N. Yamada) improved into a narrow run to the inside of CHASING THE DRAGON and was tightened for room and made contact with the running rail.

Passing the 850m, GOLD PAN was tightened for room between SNIP INTO TOWN and RAZZLING DAZZLER, which was taken in by ROWA’S MARK (B. Newport), which shifted in when not completely clear. B. Newport, rider of ROWA’S MARK, was advised to exercise more care.

Near the 700m, CASINO BLUE (G. Geran) was forced to steady to avoid the heels of GOLD PAN, which shifted in when not completely clear. B. Stower, rider of GOLD PAN, was advised to exercise more care.

Passing the 250m, SNIP INTO TOWN (S. Bogenhuber) was disappointed for a run between GOLD PAN (B. Stower) and ROWA’S MARK (B. Newport), which shifted out under pressure. As a result SNIP INTO TOWN was forced to shift to the inside in an endeavour to obtain clear running.

Race 6: Lawrence & Hanson C,G&E Maiden H'cap – 1100m

Due to a clerical error, VISION AND VALUES was rehandicapped from 56.5 kilograms to 59 kilograms.

The start was delayed to allow the broadcasting of an interstate event.

VISION AND VALUES (C. Spry) and GREY SKATES (B. Evans) and MORVEN (G. Geran) were tightened for room between MAGNIFY (S. Bogenhuber) and KLEINTON KID (N. Yamada), both of which shifted ground. This resulted in MORVEN losing ground.

Near the 1000m, MORE THAN SUPERB (L. Tilley) was tightened for room and lost ground between ISTANA DELIGHT (A. Fancourt) and WINNING LEGEND (M. McGillivray), which shifted out.

For a considerable distance passing the 900m, BIZARRE ROCK (R. Ride) and VISION AND VALUES were forced to race in restricted room between KLEINTON KID and ROCKYRED (S. Apthorpe), which shifted in. S. Apthorpe, rider of ROCKYRED, was advised to provide sufficient racing for runners to this inside when shifting ground.

LIFE’S LIKE THAT (S. Drake) raced ungenerously when awkwardly placed at the heels of KLEINTON KID for a considerable distance approaching and passing the 700m.

KLEINTON KID hung out during the middle stages and rounding the home turn.

A post race veterinary examination of ROCKYRED, which compounded from the 600m, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Connelly advised stewards that it was his intention to spell ROCKYRED following its disappointing performance. Stewards advised Mr Connelly that in light of tonight’s poor performance, ROCKYRED would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start, and furthermore would be restricted to racing at non TAB venues until such time it established more competitive form.

Race 7: Master Electricians Australia F&M Maiden H'cap – 1100m

The start was delayed to allow the completion of an interstate event.

Correct weight was delayed to allow B. Stower, rider of the 3rd placegetter, LAURA’S REIGN, to view the stewards patrol video over the concluding stages to ascertain if she had grounds to lodge an objection against ARTALO (G. Geran) being declared 2nd. Subsequently, B. Stower declined to lodge a protest.

Correct weight was further delayed to allow R. Ride, rider of the 4th placegetter, GOGERTY, to view the photo finish print for third. Correct weight was subsequently declared on the Judge’s placings.

CHAMPAGNE POWDER (M. McGillivray) began very awkwardly and shifted wider on the track and raced ungenerously in the early stages, losing ground. Trainer W. Baker was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier certificate for CHAMPAGNE POWDER prior to its next race start.

KEOAKEE (W. O'Connell) began awkwardly.

SAY ONE FOR ME (S. Apthorpe), which was slow to begin, was further hampered at the start by LAURA’S REIGN (B. Stower), which shifted out.

Near the 500m, KEOAKEE (W. O'Connell) and LAURA’S REIGN (B. Stower) made contact when both horses shifted ground marginally, resulting in LAURA’S REIGN becoming unbalanced.

Passing the 900m, PISTOLPACKINGPENNY (S. Bogenhuber) and ARTALO (G. Geran) were both tightened for room to the inside of LA CHATEAU (K. Yoshida), which shifted in. K. Yoshida, rider of LA CHATEAU, was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident.

ARTALO laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in LAURA’S REIGN having to be steadied from that runner’s heels.
