Race 1: XXXX GOLD F&M CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

Due to the rescheduling of race times at the Sunshine Coast meeting, the starting time of this event was rescheduled to 5.43 pm to avoid a clash with that venue.

As apprentice J. Orman was unable to arrive on course in time due to being delayed at another venue, apprentice R. Vigar was substituted as the rider of ROUBLE ROSE.

CLARENCE VIEW – Obliged to race wide throughout.

INTERLUDE – Slow to begin.

SANTA FE DREAMING – Hampered at the start. Laid out for the majority of the event.

ROUBLE ROSE – Began awkwardly.

Race 2: CHARLTON TYRE SERVICE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1625M

As Bradley Appo was to be overweight, N. Yamada was substituted as the rider of BADBOYCURTIS. Jockey Appo was fined $100.

MR PEPPERS – Raced wide in the early stages. Hung in rounding the home turn and then when under pressure in the home straight had a tendency to shift out

LUCKS IN – On return to scale rider M. McGillivray reported that the gelding failed to sprint in the home straight as he had anticipated, which he attributed to the horse being not entirely comfortable on the racing surface. Stewards questioned apprentice M. McGillivray regarding his riding rounding the home turn, where there appeared to be an opportunity for him to improve to the inside of MR PEPPERS, whereby he directed his mount to the outside of that runner to improve into the race in the home straight. Apprentice McGillivray reported that his mount travelled only fairly when racing on the fence throughout the event and therefore when rounding the home turn he elected to shift his mount wider on the track to a position outside MR PEPPERS as he believed this area of the track was better going. Stewards, in noting the explanation tendered by apprentice McGillivray, nonetheless advised him that in their opinion, whilst his riding rounding the home turn may not have affected the overall finishing position of LUCKS IN, it would have been more advantageous for him to improve into the race to the inside of MR PEPPERS on this occasion.

OFFSET PRINCE – Raced ungenerously for a short distance whilst being restrained near the 1200m.

GLENAROUA – Bumped at the start. Momentarily steadied when attempting to obtain clear running near the 400m.

SIR SQUIGGLE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

PRECIOUS DRAGON – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn and also when placed under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

BADBOYCURTIS – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 3: NEIL MANSELL GROUP CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1100M

OUTBACK LIGHTNING – Steadied from heels for a short distance near the 700m.

PIVOTAL POINT – Tightened for room at the start. Steadied from heels for a short distance near the 700m. Forced to steady near the 150m to avoid the heels of a runner which shifted out marginally. Apprentice E. Ljung was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than five times and in consecutive strides prior to 100m. In issuing a reprimand, Stewards were mindful of apprentice Ljung’s previous good record in regard to whip use.

AMAIZING DRAGON – Underwent pre-race veterinary examination and cleared to start. Hampered at the start.

Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS C,G&E CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

ONE BIG PARTY – Made heavy contact with the running rail near the 900m. Forced to steady for a short distance after improving on to heels near the 500m.

ZA RAPPER – Forced wider on the track near the 700m and raced three wide for the remainder of the event.

RODEL – Jockey N. Evans reported that after beginning well the horse obtained its customary leading position reasonably easily in the early stages, however in his opinion never travelled entirely comfortably throughout the event. He added that when placed under pressure the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

NADOR – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MAJOR BLOT – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 5: TYRRELL’S WINES QTIS 3YO CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, V. Venkaya, the rider of 4th placegetter ARTISTIC CHOICE, lodged an objection against TEMUJIN’S QUEEN being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 500m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos Stewards found that near the 500m TEMUJIN’S QUEEN shifted out to obtain clear running, forcing ARTISTIC CHOICE wider on the track. However, Stewards were not of the view that the interference sustained by ARTISTIC CHOICE exceeded the margin of one length separating both horses at the finish and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

MADGE – Became unbalanced when bumped by another runner near the 150m and as a result was inconvenienced for a short distance. Tightened for room and checked to avoid heels near the 800m when racing to the inside of ARTISTIC CHOICE, which shifted in. V. Venkaya, the rider of ARTISTIC CHOICE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) and his licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight on Sunday, 5 October, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 15 October 2014. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Venkaya’s good race riding record and the degree of interference suffered by MADGE.

ARTISTIC CHOICE – Shifted out near the 150m and bumped another runner.

Race 6: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SERVICES MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M

As A. Fancourt was unable to arrive on course on time due to an amendment to the starting time of her engagement at the Sunshine Coast, R. Williams was substituted as the rider of TREASURES SECRET.

MINACTA – Raced wide throughout.

TREASURES SECRET – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

VICE OR VIRTUE – On return to scale jockey Goltz advised that the gelding travelled only reasonably throughout the event and when placed under pressure proved very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards will contact trainer D. Baker in coming days regarding the horse’s post-race condition.
