Race 1: RAY WHITE TOOWOOMBA RANGE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
COL ‘N’ LIL was a late scratching at 4.30 pm on veterinary advice that the filly was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer’s representative M. Currie was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required to be provided prior to the horse’s next race start.
ROCKDAY – B. Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 500m he permitted his mount to shift out, contributing to SWENSON being tightened for room and having to be checked to avoid heels. Jockey Evans’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday 19 October and expire at midnight on Wednesday 29 October 2014 and to be served concurrently with the period of suspension imposed in Race 4.
AQUAMARINE – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Shifted in near the 500m, despite the efforts of the rider contributing to tightening to another runner.
BRONZE TIARA – Slow to begin.
MISS SUGAR PUSS – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten for a short distance. Stewards questioned apprentice E. Ljung and apprentice B. Newport, the rider of TEMUJIN’S QUEEN, in respect of tactics they adopted on their respective runners during the event, with particular reference to the tempo they set. Both riders advised that after beginning well they obtained forward positions, however their mounts commenced to race keenly during the early stages and as a result set a faster tempo than they had anticipated. Whilst Stewards accepted their explanation, both apprentices were nonetheless advised that in similar circumstances they should attempt to make greater effort to restrain their mounts to set a slower tempo than they did on this occasion.
TEMUJIN’S QUEEN – Stewards questioned apprentice B. Newport and apprentice E. Ljung, the rider of MISS SUGAR PUSS, in respect of tactics they adopted on their respective runners during the event, with particular reference to the tempo they set. Race 2: NEIL MANSELL GROUP CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M
HURRICANE CASSIE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice R. Vigar was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out on three separate occasions in the home straight, causing inconvenience to another runner.
ROWA’S MARK – Began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was tightened for room and lost ground.
MADGE – When questioned as to the horse’s performance, apprentice B. Stower advised that she obtained a good position in running, however the filly never travelled well throughout the event and laid out. She added that when placed under pressure the filly failed to respond as she had anticipated and ran on only fairly over the concluding stages.
SWEET AND SAVAGE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
RODEL – Trainer H. Richardson advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden with cover, which is in contrast to its usual pattern of leading.
SAVAGE ROCK – Steadied near the 900m to avoid heels. Steadied on three occasions in the home straight when inconvenienced by another runner, and as a result was forced wider on the track.
BEYOND THE STORM – Steadied when taken in by another runner leaving the 900m and raced in restricted room for a short distance.
PEARLS DESTINY – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
DUBSTEP – Laid in near the 900m and placed other runners in restricted room.
SOHO NIGHTS – Bumped at the start. Steadied when taken in by another runner leaving the 900m and raced in restricted room for a short distance.
Race 3: VANDERFIELD CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1100M
REAL FAVULOUS – Inconvenienced at the start and lost ground. Jockey N. Evans reported that the gelding raced ungenerously with its head in the air at various stages throughout the event and was somewhat difficult to ride. He added that the gelding raced greenly in the home straight, however did make reasonable ground over the concluding stages.
RELENTLESS HEART – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
LASER JACK – Apprentice R. Jamieson was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 4th. In issuing a reprimand, Stewards were mindful of mitigating circumstances regarding the declaration of 4th placing.
COVER UP – Laid in near the 500m, making contact with the rail.
SIGMUND- Held up at the heels of another runner between the 600m and the 500m.
Race 4: CHARLTON TYRE SERVICE MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
As N. Evans was stood down by medical staff following his ride in Race 3, R. Jamieson was substituted as the rider of SPATHONIS.
BLAZING ASALT – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice F. Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 100m she permitted her mount to shift in, contributing to FLASH MAGIC being tightened for room and forced to relinquish its rightful running. Apprentice Elliott’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Monday 20 October and expire at midnight on Sunday 26 October 2014. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had blood present in one nostril. Trainer G. Blades was advised that the horse must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward before being permitted to race again.
BURNING PAIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MAJOR LEGACY – Bumped shortly after the start. Jockey B. Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out, contributing to FLASH MAGIC being tightened for room and forced to relinquish its rightful running. Jockey Evans’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday 19 October and expire at midnight on Wednesday 29 October 2014 and to be served concurrently with the period of suspension imposed in Race 1.
FLASH MAGIC – Tightened for room at the 100m and forced to relinquish position.
TREASURES SECRET – Restrained to avoid heels when racing keenly for a considerable distance leaving the 900m. On return to scale jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that the horse travelled strongly on the bit throughout the event, however when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to quicken as she had expected and ran on only fairly over the concluding stages of the event. Inconvenienced in the home straight.
DR LEWICKI – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
HONEY BE WARNED – Jockey K. Yoshida was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance.
FOREWARD STRIKE – Slow to begin. Apprentice R. Vigar was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in under pressure in the home straight, causing inconvenience to another runner. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice R. Vigar was fined $200 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
PIPER – Bumped shortly after the start.
Race 5: PACIFIC SEEDS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1625M
After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, B. Evans, the rider of 4th placegetter SUPERCOACH, lodged an objection against PRECIOUS DRAGON being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 500m and again near the 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards ruled that the interference suffered to SUPERCOACH near the 500m was unable to be attributed to the actions of PRECIOUS DRAGON and therefore no weight could be given to jockey Evans’ objection at this point of the race. In regard to the incident at the 200m, Stewards did not believe that any ground lost by SUPERCOACH as a result of the contact between the runners at this point of the race exceeded the neck margin between them at the conclusion of the event and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
CLARENCE VIEW – Dislodged a tooth whilst in the parade yard. Underwent veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and passed suitable to race. Raced keenly in the early stages.
SUPERCOACH – Threw its head in the air at the start and lost ground. Tightened for room and checked when racing in restricted room near the 500m. Brushed with another runner near the 200m.
PRECIOUS DRAGON – Brushed with another runner near the 200m.
JANDY GIRL – Began awkwardly.
AKBAR – Raced wide until a point near the 900m.
Race 6: DAWN OSBOURNE BM70 H'CAP – 1625M
TISANI STAR – Threw its head in the air and began awkwardly.
