Race 1: BROWN AND HURLEY MAIDEN H'CAP – 1625M
The start was delayed when STORMY SEA was fractious in the barriers.
BILLABONG BELLE – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Thomas was advised that the horse will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.
OTHER WAY – Laid in in the home straight.
MR PENNYPACKER – After being caught wide, apprentice R. Vigar allowed his mount to stride forward and obtain a position closer to the rail near the 1200m. Stewards sought an explanation from trainer J. Wiggins with regards to the seemingly improved performance. Mr Wiggins stated that the gelding has had a tendency to overrace in the past and for this reason he gave the horse a brief spell and experimented with some gear in an endeavour to have the horse settle in its races. He added that the performance at Ipswich was not overly disappointing in that the horse had returned to racing from a 4-week spell and he felt that it had derived fitness out of that run. He further added that at it its most recent start at the Sunshine Coast the horse did not appreciate the firmer track and whilst somewhat disappointing, again the horse benefitted from that run. He felt that the horse was able to settle in its race today and whilst he did not give any firm instructions, the horse was able to lead whilst not overracing and he felt that this had a bearing on the improved performance.
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.
Race 2: CNK ELECTRICAL BM65 H'CAP – 1625M
SAVEEDA was a late scratching at 7.53 am for veterinary reasons.
UNDER THE LEANER – On return to scale S. Bogenhuber reported that the gelding had a tendency to lay out throughout the event.
HARDMAN HARRY – Raced wide from the 800m.
SARGENOLLY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
TISANI STAR – Laid in from the 400m.
EXCELARTIE – Laid in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages of the event.
TIMELESS TALE – Laid in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages of the event.
AMAIZING DRAGON – Steadied to avoid heels on jumping away.
HENNY BOY – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: TOOWOOMBA WEST SPECIAL SCHOOL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S. Hamilton for the late declaration of K. Yoshida as the rider of MISTER LOOSEEL.
OUTBACK LIGHTNING – When questioned as to the performance, apprentice A. Fancourt advised that she was able to obtain a forward position in the event and the horse travelled comfortably throughout, however when placed under pressure from the 400m the gelding failed to respond as she had expected and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
BOSS BURR – Held up from leaving the 400m until near the 300m.
PIVOTAL POINT – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: DAWN OSBORNE FLORIST CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M
ALL MOUNTAIN – Raced wide throughout. Stewards questioned L. Williams in relation to whether there was an opportunity in the early stages of the event to obtain a trailing position behind SHARDAY, the eventual winner of the event, in a one wide position, rather than racing to the outside of that horse, resulting in him racing three wide throughout the event. Jockey Williams advised that as the horse has a tendency to hang out in races, he was reluctant to overly restrain the gelding at that point of the race as it was travelling comfortably in itself and consequently he was not concerned by being forced to race wider on the track throughout the event. Jockey Williams added that in the home straight the horse had a tendency to hang out which resulted in it being difficult to ride out over the concluding stages of the event.
DR LEWICKI – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, apprentice E. Ljung advised that from the wide barrier she rode the mare forward in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a forward position, which is its customary racing pattern, however after being caught wide in the early stages, she elected to restrain near the 900m and consequently obtained a midfield position. She added that from passing the 700m the mare came off the bit and ran on only fairly for the remainder of the event and proved disappointing. Trainer K. Kemp, whilst acknowledging the mare was a little disappointing tonight, stated that in hindsight, at this stage of its preparation, it may not have been entirely suited by dropping back in distance of tonight’s event. Stewards noted the explanations.
KARMA FORCE – Apprentice T. Brooker was reminded of her obligation to ride her mount out to the end of the race.
MAJOR BLOT – Slow into stride. Raced wide from the 800m. On return to scale apprentice R. Payne reported that her mount laid out for the majority of the event.
CAZNOT – Slow to begin.
Race 5: CHARLTON TYRE SERVICE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M
CHIEF JUSTICE – Raced wide throughout whilst hanging out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abnormality in the near hind leg. Trainer L. Weston was advised that she will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next start.
KRYSTAL KYM – Bumped at the start. On return to scale jockey R. Goltz reported that the horse failed to muster the speed that he anticipated in the early stages of the event and consequently raced towards the rear of the field. He added that the filly never travelled strongly at any point throughout the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination
LITTLE PADDY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with another runner. Hung out from the 600m.
AFRICAN CHILD – Raced three wide throughout.
WAY OUT – Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: PLATINUM INTERNATIONAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M
CHAPTER ONE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
CRANKITUP – Forced to steady to avoid heels near the 400m. Shifted out and bumped another runner leaving the 200m.
HARADIFY – Forced to steady when placed in restricted room by another runner near the 900m. Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m and forced wider on the track.
FLYING LUCKY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m and forced wider on the track.
AQUAMARINE – Near the 1000m was forced to steady to avoid the heels of SPINTHESONY, which shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice E. Ljung was advised to exercise more care. Approaching the 400m was forced to restrain to avoid the heels of VAINQUEUR (B. Evans), which shifted in when not completely clear. B. Evans was issued with a reprimand. Forced to steady and shift out to obtain clear running to avoid the heels of another runner near the 350m. Disappointed for a run and forced to alter course to obtain clear running leaving the 200m. Bumped leaving the 200m.
ISTALENA – Slow to begin.
EDE FUSE – Forced to steady to avoid the heels of another runner near the 900m. Forced to steady and alter course after improving on to the heels of a tiring runner near the 250m.
LA NINA SONADOR – Slow to begin. Forced to steady to avoid heels near the 400m.
Race 7: VANDERFIELD CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1100M
NARCISSUS – Severely tightened for room near the 900m and became unbalanced. Tightened for room, checked and lost its rightful running near the 800m.
INDUBIOUS – Steadied for a short distance near the 900m.
STORM CRAZY – Bumped at the start. Severely tightened for room near the 900m and became unbalanced. Stewards questioned trainer T. Sears in relation to the disappointing performance. Mr Sears advised that on face value the run was disappointing, however the significant interference the horse received at the 900m may have affected its performance tonight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Sears undertook to notify Stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.
VULCANIC DRAGON – Apprentice R. Vigar pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 900m, resulting in NARCISSUS and STORM CRAZY being severely tightened for room and becoming unbalanced. Apprentice Vigar pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NARCISSUS, resulting in that runner being tightened for room, checked and losing its rightful running. Apprentice Vigar’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings in respect of each charge, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Thursday 20 November and expire at midnight on Friday 5 December 2014.
CHILLS – Bumped at the start. Steadied for a short distance near the 900m. Momentarily held up at the entrance to the home straight.
JAGONAL – Raced three wide throughout. Stewards questioned S. Hamilton, trainer of JAGONAL, in relation to the seemingly improved performance. Mr Hamilton advised that the horse was backing up quickly following its last start run at Ipswich on 12 November where the horse was forced to race three wide throughout the event in a fast run race which resulted in it tiring over the concluding stages. Mr Hamilton added that the horse’s form prior to that run had been sound and he was not entirely surprised to see a forward showing from the horse tonight.
