GENERAL
As L. Williams was indisposed due to injury, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: DAVID EVANS GROUP NAMBOUR QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1625M
EXCITING DOLL – Forced to steady and alter course near the 750m when inconvenienced by another runner. Apprentice E. Ljung (PIPER) was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift out at that point of the race. Laid out rounding the turn near the 900m. Rounding the home turn was momentarily steadied after improving on to heels.
FLASH MAGIC – Bumped heavily shortly after the start and lost ground.
MAGICAL PRINT – Made the home turn extremely wide.
LA NINA SONADOR – Bumped another runner shortly after the start.
SUSTAIN – Raced in restricted room near the 350m and was steadied when PIPER (E. Ljung) shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice Ljung was issued with a reprimand.
Stewards questioned apprentices B. Stower (AQUAMARINE), N. Nishio (SUSTAIN) and T. Brooker (LA NINA SONADOR) in relation to the tactics adopted on their respective mounts in the early and middle stages whereby they raced 3 abreast whilst leading the field by a considerable distance. All three apprentices advised that after beginning well they endeavoured to obtain forward positions, however after racing a short distance their mounts commenced to overrace and, despite their efforts to restrain, led the field by a considerable distance. Apprentice T. Brooker did, however, add that when caught in a three wide position she did endeavour to ride her mount forward for a short distance passing the 1100m in an attempt to cross runners to her inside, however as they were racing strongly at that point, she was unable to perform this manoeuvre and therefore near the 900m she again attempted to restrain her mount in an endeavour to get it to settle more comfortably. Stewards were of the opinion that in the circumstances the riding of none of the apprentices at that point of the race fell below the required standard, however did advise them that in similar circumstances they should each make a far greater effort to restrain their mounts to set a more comfortable tempo throughout the event.
Race 2: DAVID EVANS GROUP TOOWOOMBA CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M
EXEMPLARY – Raced wide throughout.
RELENTLESS HEART – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Raced in restricted room for a short distance passing the 800m. Held up from the 500m until rounding the home turn.
ZA RAPPER – Bumped at the start.
MIDNIGHT ALLURE – Improved on to the heels of another runner near the 700m and shifted out abruptly.
Race 3: DAVID EVANS GROUP GATTON BM75 H'CAP – 1625M
UNDER THE LEANER – Laid out throughout the event.
KISTAMON – Bumped another runner at the start.
VIVAHEART – Steadied from heels near the 500m.
CLARENCE VIEW – A little slow to begin then further hampered at the start when bumped by another runner and as a result lost ground. Following the horse’s performance, trainer P. Sexton reported that it will be sent for a spell.
HANDFUL OF SILVER – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: DAVID EVANS GROUP BRISBANE RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1625M
SAVEEDA – Lost its off fore plate in running.
WARP NINE – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.
TISANI STAR – Began awkwardly. After being caught wide, apprentice T. Brooker allowed her mount to stride forward and assume the leading position approaching the 1100m. Apprentice T. Brooker was reprimanded for using her whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
TIMELESS TALE – Apprentice B. Stower reported on return to scale that from the 800m she was held up at the heels of ALL BUT, which had a tendency to hang out at that point of the race. She added that as PUTAPAVONIT had improved quickly to her outside at that point of the race, she was unable to shift outwards until that horse cleared her near the 600m. As a result, she was shuffled further back in the field than she had intended to be during the middle stages of the event.
ALL BUT – Hung out for the majority of the event.
Race 5: DAWN OSBORNE FLORIST CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1200M
NARCISSUS – Bumped another runner near the 50m.
STORM CRAZY – Began awkwardly.
BARONESS ZEENA – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and near the 50m bumped another runner.
OUTBACK GRANDE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1000M
BOSS BURR – Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards gave consideration to an application by jockey Bogenhuber and trainer T. Sears to have BOSS BURR declared a non-runner on the grounds of being denied a fair start. After hearing submissions from all parties and viewing the patrol film, Stewards found that just prior to the start being effected, BOSS BURR put its head down in the barriers and consequently missed the start by a considerable distance. Stewards deemed that any inconvenience caused at the start to BOSS BURR was as a result of its own manners and therefore declared it to be a definite runner and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.
TISANI TOMSO – Bumped near the 700m and again approaching the 600m.
TAILWIND – Tightened for room shortly after the start.
RAMBLIN’ DAISY – Shifted out after being eased near the 700m when CLASSIC BEND (K. Yoshida) shifted in when not completely clear and in doing so made heavy contact with another runner. K. Yoshida was advised to exercise more care. Shifted out approaching the 600m and made contact with another runner. Buffeted between runners near the 300m and lost ground.
Race 7: GRAND CENTRAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
BULLCAMP RED – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.
REAL CHOICE – Slow to begin.
MAGIC DRAGON – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
VAINQUEUR – Dipped on 2 occasions near the 400m.
HALO DE LAGO – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
LOOK I’M DANCING – Raced wide throughout.
Race 8: QUALITY HOTEL PLATINUM INTERNATIONAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
SCENIC ROAD – Jumped in at the start and made contact with another runner.
ZAHA COUNTY – Slightly slow to begin, then further hampered when bumped by another runner.
CLANGFILLY – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, jockey Bogenhuber advised that after beginning well she rode the mare along in the early stages to obtain the leading position. Jockey Bogenhuber added that when placed under pressure from the 600m it failed to respond to her riding and proved somewhat disappointing. Jockey Bogenhuber further added that she advised connections that the horse may be better suited being ridden off the pace in future starts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Stewards will contact the stable in coming days regarding the horse’s post-race recovery.
HOW SWEET – Bumped at the start.
