MR MAYFAIR (P. Wolfgram) raced wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ARMSTRONG JONES, B. Evans stated that the horse was under pressure from a point leaving the the 700m and did not respond to his riding in the early stages of the straight and proved disappointing. LAURIE’S LAD and CATTLEMAN made contact on jumping away.

Shortly after the start, CATTLEMAN shifted out, resulting in MONO MAC (T. Angland) having to be steadied when tightened for room between CATTLEMAN and PAT ATTACK (S. Apthorpe).

Stewards placed a warning on ZAHBAJ, which had a tendency to lay out during the event.

When questioned regarding the performance of CATTLEMAN, J. Taylor stated that the horse began only fairly and at no stage felt comfortable on the track today. A post race veterinary examination of CATTLEMAN revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg.

1st – Lilleelavee 2nd – Hyde Park 3rd – Steal The Cash 4th - Zekeza

Trainer T. Miller was reprimanded for failing to declare riders for SHOWIT and WESTERN PRINCE (Race 7) by the prescribed time. In issuing a reprimand only, stewards took into account Mr Miller’s good record regarding infringements of this rule.

HEZA FLASHMAN (S. Katsidis) and TUSCON RAIN (M. Palmer) were slow to begin.

DRENALIN (D. Craven) and LILLEELAVEE (T. Angland) were tightened for room on jumping away between SERUNAI (E. Wilkinson) and KIRRA LYN (K. Pope), which was taken out by CRACKERJACK FORTUNE (O. Turpin).

Passing the 500m, ZEKEZA (L.Rolls) improved on to the heels of CRACKAJACK FORTUNE (O. Turpin) and had to be steadied. KIRRA LYN (K. Pope), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence and then shifted in, resulting in HEZA FLASHMAN (S. Katsidis) striking the heels of that runner and blundering on 2 occasions. In the circumstances, stewards took no action.
Near the 200m, TUSCON RAIN (M. Palmer) had to be steadied from the heels of WEDDING LILY (B. Evans), which shifted out to improve.

STEAL THE CASH raced wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SERANAI, jockey E. Wilkinson stated that whilst the horse was obliged to race 3 wide for the entire race, he was nevertheless very disappointed with the horse’s effort as it was under pressure from the 600m and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer J. McLachlan stated that the horse had worked well leading up to today’s event and anticipated a forward showing and voiced his disappointment regarding the horse’s performance. Mr McLachlan undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that may become apparent with SERANAI that may have had a bearing on today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of SERUNAI failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of HEZA FLASHMAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Near the 400m, NEXGEN (J. Taylor) shifted out in an endeavour to improve its position and in doing so made contact with IN REHEARSAL on a number of occasions.

ROCKPECKER (D. Brown) had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Race 5: XXXX Bitter Toowoomba Cup H'cap – 2100m
1st – Jussemi 2nd – Little Stranger 3rd – Don Vito 4th - Tripitz

PALACE LOVER (S. Seamer) jumped outwards at the start, resulting in S. Seamer’s foot striking the barrier gate.

ON THE UP (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.

SHALE SHAKER (G. Geran) raced very ungenerously in the early and middle stages and near the 1600m shifted out, taking REBOUNDED (M. Radecker) wider on the track.

Stewards questoned jockey S. Seamer in relation to the tactics he employed on PALACE LOVER today, in particular the reasons for him commencing to improve his position sharply leaving the 700m. S. Seamer stated that approaching that point he urged his mount forward to take up a position that had become available to the inside of SHALE SHAKER and to the outside of REGAL CASTANEA (D. Griffin) in an endeavour to ensure that he was not held up behind SHALE SHAKER, which had raced wide and appeared to be tiring in his opinion. S. Seamer added that PALACE LOVER then raced keenly at the heels of YIELD CURVE, and he felt it was in the horse’s best interests to move PALACE LOVER to the outside of YIELD CURVE and commence to improve his position. Stewards noted the explanation.

A post race veterinary examination of REBOUNDED failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 6: Boags QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1200m
1st - Surf’s Up 2nd – Easy Knight 3rd – Princess Qualo 4th – Lady Leo

MEDICI (G. Geran) was slow to begin.

Near the 850m, STREET STALL (J. Taylor) was eased when crowded for room by LADY LEO (S. Apthorpe), which shifted in whilst being eased from the heels of BOB AND DOLLY (E. Wilkinson).

At the 750m, SECRETS improved onto the heels of KALINGA FLASH (O. Turpin) and had to be eased.

Passing the 700m, STREET STALL got its head up whilst being eased from heels.

KALINGA FLASH was held up for clear running from the 400m until the early stages of the straight.

Leaving the 400m, SECRETS (A. Best) was held up for clear running.

JUSTLUK (S. Scriven) raced wide throughout the race.

Race 7: Contour Consulting Engineers Fillies & Mares H'cap – 1300m
1st – Icedane 2nd – Hussta La Vista 3rd – Chabeli 4th – Miss Reed

CHABELI (A. Best) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

SHOCKING BLUE (G. Geran) and SECONDE (T. Angland) were slow to begin.

Near the 400m, HUSSTA LA VISTA (O. Turpin) had had to be checked from the heels of the weakening SLINKY CHELLE (D. Craven).

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice O. Turpin in regards to his riding of HUSTA LA VISTA. Apprentice Turpin stated that the horse began only fairly and he was able to take up a position behind SLINKY CHELLE on the fence in the early stages. O. Turpin stated that his mount travelled comfortably and near the 500m he attempted to move HUSSTA LA VISTA wider on the track off the heels of the weakening SLINKY CHELLE, however was unable to do so due to SECONDE racing directly to his outside. O. Turpin further added that he was again unable to move HUSSTA LA VISTA off the heels of the tiring SLINKYCHELLE near the 400m due to SANDTON (E. Wilkinson) following up on the back of SECONDE. O. Turpin added that this resulted in him being taken back to the tail of the field and in an endeavour to obtain clear running he moved the horse to the extreme outside of the track. Stewards advised O. Turpin that, in their opinion, his ride lacked judgement in that on 2 occasions between the 550m and 350m stewards believed there was an opportunity for him to move HUSTA LA VISTA to a position one off the fence and improve the mare’s position. Stewards ordered that apprentice O. Turpin attend 2 sessions of tutelage with the Queensland Racing Limited Riders’ Advisory Panel.

Race 8: Blacklaw Civil Contractors C,G&E Class 6 H'cap – 1300m

Near the 900m, RED FERMENTS (G. Geran), whilst being eased from the heels of LUCIDLY (B. Stewart), shifted out and bumped SILVERN (E. Wilkinson). B. Stewart, rider of LUCIDLY, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.

A post race veterinary examination of SILVERN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
