Track temperature: 42 degrees celcius

Correct weight was delayed whilst the connections of WOOROOROKA (A Best) viewed the film.

Both NOBBYS MATE (J Letherby) and WOOROOROOKA began tardily.

SILVER DREAM (R Goltz) which jumped away awkwardly and out, pulled hard in the early stages of the race.

FLEISCHMANS ROCKET (S Drake) pulled hard in the early and middle stages of the race.

Leaving the 700m MOTHER RUSSIA (A Taylor) shifted out taking WOOROOROOKA wider on the track.

Approaching the 600m FLEISCHMANS ROCKET shifted out to improve and in doing so took DARINGART (S Bogenhuber) wider on the track.

On entering the home straight WOOROOROOKA and MOTHER RUSSIA came together and brushed and then over the concluding stages when both horses shifted ground towards one another. Jockeys A Taylor (MOTHER RUSSIA) and A Best (WOOROOROOKA) were restricted in their use of the whip and consequently were not able to fully ride their mounts out to the line.

NOBBYS MATE brushed the inside running rail in the vinicity of the 1000m of its own accord and momentarily begace unbalanced.

When questioned regarding the performance of NOBBYS MATE, apprentice J Letherby stated that he positioned the horse worse than mid-field as per the instructions and allowed the horse to become balanced and race comfortably up to the 600m. At this point when asked for an effort the horse failed to respond and despite the jockeys urgings the horse showed no inclination to improve at any stage of the race. Apprentice Letherby said that the horse felt normal in its action. Stewards noted the comments.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA HONDA MOTORCYCLES CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1000M.
1st – Lady Primera 2nd – Pampered Lass 3rd – Ottens 4th – Her Pic

In this incident REONMAY (S Bogenhuber) which was slow to begin was tightened between HER PIC and PAMPERED LASS and lost ground.

HER PIC raced wide in the early stages of the race.

In the vicinity of the 400m mark OTTENS (K Yoshida) commended to lay out and did so until rounding the home turn.

Race 3: THE NATURAL WAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200M.

LLAMRAI (J Letherby) jumped away awkwardly losing ground.

At approximately the 850m KBARIS (K Cross) had to ease from the heels of CRÈME LATTE (C Spry) when the pace slowed.

FIZZY was inclined to lay out at the 800m.

At the 500m COZ HE WANTS TO (P Wolfgram) had to steady when his horse improved to the inside of UPHEBOBS (K Yoshida) and was placed in restricted room when that horse rolled in.

Jockey S Drake (MISTERSUN) was advised to exercise more care when attempting to obtain a position closer to the running rail near the 500m and reminded of her obligations to allow the required distance when crossing horses to her inside.

Rounding the home turn THRILLSEEKER was held up for clear running between BLARE (S Guymer) and OCTDANE both of which shifted ground and near the 200m was obliged to ease from the heels of the tiring OCTDANE.

Apprentice J Leterby (LLAMRAI) accidentally dropped his whip leaving the 100m mark placing the rider at a disadvantage and unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages of the race.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of UPHEBOBS, jockey K Yoshida stated the horse had worked and barrier trialed well. However with only one race start raced greenly and rolled in on a number of ocassions throughout the race. FLYING HAVANA (R Kerwin) began awkwardly.

At the start CANADIAN POPPY (J Letherby) jumped in taking STOP LYING (N Tomizawa) in across EXHILARATER (K Yoshida) which was slowly away.

Leaving the 550m KING OF SPIRIT (C Spry) lay in onto CHANNEL CROSSING which was attempting to ease out to secure clear running.

FLYING HAVANA shifted in and brushed the running rail rounding the home turn.

OLANAL (K Cross) raced wide throughout.

Stewards reprimanded apprentice K Cross (OLANAL) in regard to excessive use of the whip under AR137A(5)(a)(ii).

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EXHILARATER trainer M Nolan stated he felt jockey K Yoshida rode to instructions and had a nice run on the inside but felt the horse had failed to run on. Trainer Nolan further stated that they were happy with the horse’s performance at its previous start in Brisbane and felt the drop back in class and the extra distance would suit the horse. Trainer Nolan further undertook to advise Stewards should anything untoward become obvious with the horse over the coming days. Stewards noted the comments.
