SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From Toowoomba meeting, 20.2.10.
Race 6. N. Evans was fined $200 under AR137A(5)(a)(i) in that he struck his horse on consecutive occasions twice from the home turn to the 100m for a total of 9 strikes..
Race 7. M. Dorrington was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking his mount more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
As A Merrit was injured, riding changes were made as per the Stewards’ Summary Sheet.
Race 1:Stephanie Duff Memorial Race Clss 2 H'cap – 850m
1st – Canadian Joy 2nd –Ulmarra 3rd – Mayamac 4th – Ourmikeymac
Track temperature: 30 degrees celsius
Due to traffic delays, N. Evans was unable to fulfil his engagement on LADY IN SEQUENCE and was replaced by L. Roberts.
MAGICAL JOKER (C. Spry) and GRAND FOLLY (A.Taylor) were slow to begin.
MAYAMAC (N. Tomizawa) blundered on jumping away and shifted out, tightening LITTLE MISS BARBIE (C. Priest) on to CAWDOR TONY (A. Best). In this incident, LITTLE MISS BARBIE blundered after clipping the heels of MAYAMAC (N. Tomizawa) and lost considerable ground.
CANADIAN JOY (P. Wolfgram) and CAWDOR TONY (A. Best) shifted in shortly after the start.
CANADIAN JOY laid in over the final stages.
OURMIKEYMAC (N. Yamada) commenced to lay out near the 500m and continued to do so for the remainder of the event.
ULMARRA (M. O'Brien) shifted out under pressure over the final stages.
GRAND FOLLY (A.Taylor) showed signs of severe distress at the 100m and shifted out when being eased down near the finish line. When questioned, jockey A. Taylor explained to stewards that the colt was competitive until nearing the 350 metres, at which point GRAND FOLLY was under pressure, began to shorten stride, and was gasping for breath and became awkward in its action. She added that for safety concerns she eased the horse down to the outside fence and dismounted. A post race veterinary examination of GRAND FOLLY revealed the colt to be severely distressed with an elevated heart rate and also may have tied up behind. A further veterinary examination of GRAND FOLLY will be carried out later in the race meeting. A veterinary clearance will be required for GRAND FOLLY prior to its next race start.
Stewards sought an explanation from Trainer M Jeynes for the horse's poor performance ,and Trainer Jeynes stated that he was told by the owners the horse had had problems with sustaining its run to the finish line on previous occasions and had been scoped at least once to his knowledge .He further stated that he was very disappointed with the horses performance and believed that after discussions with the connections the horse would be immediately spelled .he also added that if necessary the horse may under go a soft palet correction by surgery .Stewards noted the comments but added that in addition to the veterinary certificate ,the horse would have to barrier trial prior to its next race start.
A post race veterinary examination of MAYAMAC revealed the filly to have sustained a superficial laceration to the off fore tendon. Connections will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be require prior to its next race start.
Apprentice J. Letherby was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 5th on SHE’S DREAMIN’.
Race 2:XXXX Gold Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Shazoom 2nd – Dance Tulip 3rd – Get Jazz 4th – Audiola
Track temperature: 28 degrees celsius
Prior to this race, stewards interviewed trainer R. Nicholson regarding GET JAZZ starting yesterday at the Ipswich Turf Club meeting and backing up at today’s race meeting. Mr Nicholson stated that, in his opinion, the horse had taken no ill effects from yesterday’s race and was confident GET JAZZ would perform well today. GET JAZZ was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
GET JAZZ (M. O'Brien) and IPLAYFORTHEBAY (P. Wolfgram) made contact on jumping away.
DANCE TULIP (M. Dorrington) and ALL FOR ROME (C. Priest) were tightened for room on
jumping away between SHAZOOM (N. Evans), which shifted in, and HALDROW (B. Thomson), which shifted out.
ALL FOR ROME raced wide in the early and middle stages.
At the 850m, DANCE TULIP was momentarily tightened for room between IPLAYFORTHEBAY, which shifted out, and AUDIOLA (N. Yamada), which rolled in.
Rounding the home turn, ALL FOR ROME (C. Priest), when weakening, had to be steadied off heels when tightened for room by SEISMIC (A. Best), which rolled in.
At the 350m, SEISMIC then shifted wider on the track, taking AUDIOLA (N. Yamada) wider.
N. Evans, rider of SHAZOOM, was fined $200 for using his whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m. N. Evans was fined a further $200 for striking his horse in consecutive strides on 2 occasions prior to the 100m.
Race 3: PSP Video Class 4 H'cap - 1300m
1st – Willyclang 2nd – Ruling Party 3rd – Canadian Poppy 4th - Secrets
Track temperature: 26 degrees celsius.
As C. Spry was to be overweight, M. Dorrington was substituted as the rider of CANADIAN POPPY. C. Spry was fined $100.
After beginning awkwardly, CHIEF CHERON (J. Letherby) was tightened for room between OLANAL (M. O'Brien), and RULING PARTY (B. Thomson), both of which shifted ground. In this incident, CHIEF CHERON was hampered badly and lost considerable ground.
WILLYCLANG began awkwardly and lost ground.
RULING PARTY (B. Thomson) overraced in the early stages of the race.
Near the 1200m, CHIEF CHERON commenced to overrace and improved on to the heels of MAKE MINE CASH (A.Taylor) and had to be steadied and lost ground.
Near the 800m, CHANNEL CROSSING (R. Goltz) was tightened for room between CANADIAN POPPY (M. Dorrington) and HE’S SOME EAGLE (L. Roberts), which rolled in.
At the 700m, CHANNEL CROSSING had to be steadied off the heels of OLANAL when the pace slowed.
CHIEF CHERON (J. Letherby) raced wide in the middle stages.
CANADIAN POPPY bled during the event. Trainer B. Squair was advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months .He was also advised of the requirements need ed under AR53 to have the bar lifted
Stewards interviewed Trainer D Brusnahan as to the performance of Olanal.trainer D Brusnahan stated that he was at a loss to explain the poor performance and would have a complete veterinary examination of the horse in the next few days .Trainer D Brusnahan gave an undertaking to advise Stewards should anything out of the ordinary be observed that may have effected the performance of Olanal and Stewrads notified connections a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again .
Race 4: Seven News QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1050m
1st – Queenofbeaudesert 2nd – Bitasuga 3rd – Breezin’ 4th – Master Foreshore
Track temperature: 23 degrees celsius.
PRETZELS was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 8.05 pm. Trainer T. Stevens was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly’s next race start.
BREEZIN’ which was fractious in the barriers, reared up and made contact with INSIGNIA, which was in the adjoining barrier. BREEZIN’ and INSIGNIA were examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
At the start, MY GAL SAL (N. Tomizawa) jumped outwards at the start, taking BREEZIN’ (A. Best) out on to INSIGNIA (J. Letherby), which was slow to begin.
TANGO RIO (M. Dorrington) raced wide from the 750m until the 550m.
MASTER FORESHORE (A.Taylor) raced ungenerously near the 600m for a short distance.
MASTER FORESHORE raced wide in the middle and later stages of the race.
DANE’S WORLD (R. Goltz) hung out in the middle stages of the race.
BITASUGA (W. Clasholm) and BREEZNI’ raced wide from the 500m until rounding the home turn.
Rounding the home turn, DANE’S WORLD was momentarily steadied when tightened for room by MY GAL SAL , which rolled in.
A. Best, rider of BREEZIN, lost his whip near the 150m.
Race 5: XXXX Bitter Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Blare 2nd – Kissing Type 3rd – Golden Ideal 4th – Sam’s Crossing
Track temperature: 23 degrees celsius.
HEADS OR TAILS, which was fractious in the barriers and broke through, galloping for a considerable distance, was declared a late scratching at 7.32 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on HEADS OR TAILS were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer D. Steinbeck was advised that HEADS OR TAILS must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
PINK PEPPER (N. Yamada) and SAM’S CROSSING (C. Spry) made contact on jumping away.
ALL IN TIME (R. Goltz) jumped outwards at the start, hampering ST PANCRAS MOON (B. Thomson), which was slow to begin.
BLARE (P. Wolfgram) raced wide in the middle stages until rounding the home turn.
Race 6: Southern Cross Ford Maiden Plate – 1500m
1st – Jondy Iggy 2nd – Llamrai 3rd – Secret Circus 4th – Espionage
Track temperature: 20 degrees celsius.
THREE TALES (M. O’Brien) was slow to begin.
FRISKY RED (J. Kehoe) hung out at the 1200m and raced wide until the 1000m.
BOUND TO ACT (M. Abe) began awkwardly and lost ground.
At the 1300m, ESPIONAGE (A. Best) shifted out, forcing FRISKY RED (J. Kehoe) wider on the track.
Jockey L. Roberts, rider of SECRET CIRCUS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 500m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ESKIMO HEAT (S. Richardson), resulting in ESKIMO HEAT being tightened onto DIAMOND ZAH (N. Tomizawa), which had to be steadied and lost ground. L. Roberts was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 February and to expire at midnight, 7 March 2010.
Jockey J. Kehoe, rider of FRISKY RED, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 350m when insufficiently clear of ESKIMO HEAT (S. Richardson), resulting in that horse being tightened for room and checked, losing ground. J. Kehoe was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 February and to expire at midnight, 7 March 2010.
