Track temperature: 35 degrees celsius
Trainer D. Brusnahan advised that ULMARRA would attempt to be ridden mid-field if possible. The horse was ridden as per instructions.
Correct weight was delayed whilst stewards viewed the patrol film to ascertain whether TITANIUM ROCK (A. Best) had been denied a fair start. After viewing the film, stewards were satisfied that TITANIUM ROCK had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared.
TITANIUM ROCK reared as the start was effected, striking its head on the crossbar of the barriers. Trainer M. Webb was advised that a warning was being placed on the colt regarding its barrier manners. A post-race veterinary examination of TITANIUM ROCK failed to reveal any abnormalities.
PROOF READER (N. Evans) and REDBOLT (C. Maund) were slow to begin.

OURMIKEYMAC, which was held up for clear running between the 500m and the 400m shifted out leaving the 400m to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with REIGN READY, forcing that horse and ALL KIWI wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of REIGN READY, apprentice M. O’Brien reported that the horse had travelled well despite being positioned three wide, however when asked for an effort rounding the home turn failed to respond to her riding. She could offer no explanation for the performance other than to state that in her opinion the horse may not have backed up from racing one week earlier. Trainer D. Brusnahan agreed with apprentice O’Brien’s opinion of the performance and advised stewards he would not back the horse up so quickly in future and would notify stewards should anything come to light in the coming days which may have had an effect on the performance.

Near the 550m FLOWER CHARIOT (M. O'Brien) improved between RAZOR FORTUNE (N. Tomizawa) and SPIFFING (A.Taylor) where there was doubtful room and as a result had to be steadied. Apprentice M. O’Brien was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 500m MISS GYPSY ROSE (N. Evans) shifted out to improve and as a result forced SAM’S CROSSING wider on the track.
Near the 350m KONSTANTIN had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COOPERS COMET (J. Letherby), which shifted out.
Stewards questioned A. Best regarding the performance of BREEZIN'. A. Best stated that he had been instructed to position the horse in the second half of the field, however after being slow to begin was forced to be positioned at the tail of the field. He added that he had intended improving into the race behind KONSTANTIN when leaving the 800m, however, when KONSTANTIN did not improve as anticipated, he was forced to shift out around that horse and was then under pressure from the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination of BREEZIN' failed to reveal any abnormalities.
