Trainer N. Saunders was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for WHISPRIAN by the prescribed time.
At an early request by K. Kemp, trainer of ITS THIRSTY WORK, stewards permitted the addition of blinkers to that horse’s gear. This was advertised by way of media release, radio and course announcer. Subsequently, K. Kemp was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of that gear.
The start was delayed when LORDLY shied and dislodged J. Letherby in its preliminary. Whilst LORDLY was loose, WHISPRIAN took fright from that horse, disloding its rider, M. Abe. Both horses were caught after travelling a short distance and examined by the veteriary surgeon and cleared to start. Both J. Letherby and M. Abe advised they were clear of any injuries and able to fulfil their engagements.
STARBURST (A. Best) and ASIDE (A. Merritt) were both slow to begin.
