Race 1: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M
1st – Rem’e’can 2nd – Busker 3rd – Dark Knight 4th – Divine Cash

Track temperature: 49 degrees celsius

The saddle of VALLEY MOON (S. Egan) shifted en route to the barriers, necessitating that horse having to be resaddled prior to the start.

DARK KNIGHT (J. Letherby) began awkwardly.

KALINYA (C. Gilby) raced wide in the early stages.

Near the 1200m DARK KNIGHT shifted in, brushing the running rail, when taken in by DIVINE CASH (C. Spry), which shifted in. C. Spry was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When questioned regarding the performance of DARK KNIGHT, apprentice J. Letherby stated that the horse had a slight tendency to overrace in the early stages, however enjoyed a nice run behind the speed and was able to improve quickly rounding the home turn, however soon after straightening felt the horse’s run had ended and only went to the line fairly. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 2: 7 NEWS QTIS 600 TWO-YEARS-OLD H’CAP – 1000M
1st –Ghostnthedarkness 2nd – Hidden Treasure 3rd – Tycoon Cat 4th – Tinkerman

Track temperature: 47 degrees celsius

HEAD STOCKMEN (N. Evans) began awkwardly.

TINKERMAN (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

Race 3: PSP VIDEO COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN H’CAP - 1200
1st – Ibethecan 2nd – Looks Like Deano 3rd – Grey Mambo 4th – Kingdale

Track temperature: 47 degrees celsius.

STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT (J. Kehoe) and LOOKS LIKE DEANO (S. Bogenhuber) were both slow to begin.

SOUND MAN PADDY (D. Green) began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.

Approaching the 1000m STRAIGHTTOTHEPOINT improved on to the heels of MAPLE LEAF (M. O'Brien) and shifted out, making contact with THREE GONGS (M. Dorrington), forcing that runner wider on the track. KINGDALE (C. Maund), which was racing to the outside of KINGDALE, was also forced wider in this incident.

MAPLE LEAF had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages and near the 900m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LOOKS LIKE DEANO, which became unbalanced and shifted out.

Near the 900m IBETHECAN (N. Yamada), which had a tendency to lay out, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SOUND MAN PADDY (D. Green) which shifted in momentarily.

When questioned regarding the performance of KINGDALE, jockey C. Maund stated that after beginning well from its wide barrier he was unable to find a position close to the rails and elected to come back in an attempt to get closer to the rail, however when the horse shifted out and away from THREE GONGS near the 800m, it seemed to lose interest in the race despite his urging of the horse until a point near the 300m when it began to improve and work into the race and found the line well. He added that it was his intention to have the horse closer to the leaders on the home turn, but despite his efforts he was unable to. He further added that he had expressed to the connections that he feels the horse would be better suited over a longer distance than that of today’s race and further that the horse may benefit from the addition of blinkers. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 4: BILL BOOSHAND TRIBUTE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Istaar 2nd – Punto Vista 3rd – Kbaris 4th – Two Rivers

Track temperature: 47 degrees celsius.

The start was delayed when TWO RIVERS (M. Hellyer) proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Coveney was advised that a warning was being placed on the barrier manners of TWO RIVERS.

On jumping away BELLA'S IMAGE (K. Yoshida), FLOWER CHARIOT (A. Best) and TWO RIVERS (M. Hellyer), which was slow to begin, were all tightened between LADY KINTALK (L. Deguara), which shifted out, and AMOREENA (C. Gilby), which shifted in slightly.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 500m where LADY KINTALK had to be checked and lost ground. After hearing evidence from L. Deguara (LADY KINTALK), apprentice E. Kehoe (PUNTO VISTA), A. Best (FLOWER CHARIOT) and S. Seamer (LIFEREEL) and stewards’ observations, it was established that LIFEREEL attempted to jump a shadow and shifted out, hampering LADY KINTALK. LADY KINTALK then attempted to shift to the inside of LIFEREEL, which as a result had become unbalanced and shifted back in causing LADY KINTALK to be checked and lose ground when tightened for room between PUNTO VISTA and LIFEREEL. FLOWER CHARIOT, which was following, was also hampered in this incident. As stewards could find no one rider to be at fault, no further action was taken.

A post-race veterinary examination of LADY KINTALK revealed the horse to have sustained a laceration to its off hind leg.

Race 5: THREE WAY PHOTOS MAIDEN PLATE – 850M
1st – Tycoon Is In 2nd – Amapola 3rd – Miss Condy 4th – Elusivity

Track temperature: 45 degrees celsius.

The start was delayed when A. Best was dislodged from JUNABEE ROAD on the way to the barriers. After being recaptured, JUNABEE ROAD was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. A. Best was examined by the club’s ambulance officers and cleared to take his ride.

ELUSIVITY (C. Gilby) and OW AH MCGRATH (C. Maund) were both slow to begin.

JUNABEE ROAD (A. Best) blundered shortly after the start and lost ground.

Near the 700m RAKU TU (J. Letherby), which had a tendency to lay out, was tightened for room and had to be checked when FOREST REDGUM (J. Wood) shifted in when not fully clear. Whilst stewards were mindful of the slight shift out from RAKU TU, apprentice J. Wood was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care when shifting ground. MISS CONDY (C. Spry), which was following RAKU TU, also had to be restrained and shifted out abruptly to avoid that horse’s heels.

TWILIGHTS (S. Egan), JUNABEE ROAD and ELUSIVITY (C. Gilby) raced wide for the majority of the event.

RAKU TU had a tendency to overrace and lay out in the middle stages.

RAKU TU had to be steadied near the 150m when improving on to the heels of the tiring FOREST REDGUM.

A post-race veterinary examination of JUNABEE ROAD failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: SOUTHERN CROSS AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 5 H’CAP – 850M
1st – Tycoon Tattoo 2nd – Mayamac 3rd – Hesanothadollar 4th – Mitzu

Track temperature: 40 degrees celsius.

The start was delayed slightly when BEST OF CEEDEE (P. Wolfgram) became fractious in the barriers and as a result unsettled MR MONTGOMERY (T. Huxham), which also became fractious and dislodged its rider in the barriers.

MONASHEE DIVA (J. Wood) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Apprentice M. O’Brien was reprimanded under AR. 144 for failing to weigh in following the event on 5th placegetter LADY CHICANE.

Race 7: JEWELS OF THE RANGE CLASS 6 PLATE – 1625M
1st – Siong Tee 2nd – Lezant 3rd – Mr Mayfair 4th – Lovmieko

Track temperature: 35 degrees celsius.

MR MAYFAIR which kicked the running rail behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

Both SHOT OF THE RAILS (P. Wolfgram) and SIONG TEE (C. Spry) raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to roll forward to obtain a position closer to the rails.

Near the 900m MR MAYFAIR (C. Maund) shifted out, bumping SEEKAWINNER (N. Yamada), forcing that runner wider. Near the 800m MR MAYFAIR again shifted out, forcing SEEKAWINNER wider, resulting in that horse being obliged to race wide from that point on.

LEZANT (S. Egan) was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHOT OF THE RAILS, jockey P. Wolfgram stated that although he raced wide and was obliged to go forward to obtain the lead in the early stages, he believed that the horse travelled comfortably in the lead and in his opinion was disappointing. He added that he felt the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer P. Sexton agreed with jockey Wolfgram’s assessment and advised that as the gelding had been up for some time it would now be given a short let-up. A post-race veterinary examination of SHOT OF THE RAILS failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Race 8: 7 SUNRISE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Retrospect 2nd – Seeyou Seeyou 3rd – Piccolo Latte 4th – Emmert/Beautiful Nicola

Track temperature: 30 degrees celsius.

The start was delayed when KISSING TYPE became momentarily cast in the barriers and in doing so made contact with PICCOLO LATTE. As a result, both horses were examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and both were cleared to run.

KISSING TYPE (M. O'Brien) shifted in abruptly on jumping away, making heavy contact with PICCOLO LATTE (S. Bogenhuber), resulting in both horses losing ground.

DOUBLE RISE (K. Banks) began awkwardly.

KUNNINKIK (J. Letherby) blundered on jumping away.

Shortly after the start SEEYOU SEEYOU (J. Wood) shifted in, brushing KISSING TYPE.

Near the 900m SEEYOU SEEYOU had to be restrained when racing in restricted room between KISSING TYPE and EMMERTT (N. Yamada).

SEEYOU SEEYOU overraced in the middle stages and had to be steadied off the heels of KISSING TYPE.

NEED LUV (S. Seamer) raced wide for the majority of the event.

SEEYOU SEEYOU was held up for clear running and unable to improve from leaving the 500m until entering the home straight.
