As C. Maund was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
FROM GATTON 5.6.10:
Race 5: Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 350m which resulted in XENA’S LAST ACT (S. Richardson) being tightened for room between BUSKER (A.Taylor) and CONTOURS (S. Bogenhuber), which shifted out under pressure. Apprentice S. Bogenhuber was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Race 5: Jockey C. Gilby pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he struck KALINYA with the whip in a forehand manner on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. C. Gilby’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 19 June, and expire at midnight on Friday, 2 July 2010.
Race 1: XXXX GOLD CLASS 3 PLATE – 1850M
1st – Released 2nd – Moon Chaser 3rd – Nova Chenka 4th – Monsoon Reign
Track temperature: 12 degrees celsius
MOON CHASER (S. Guymer) jumped away awkwardly.
SEMI FINAL (J. Letherby) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
MONSOON REIGN (P. Wolfgram), which jumped away awkwardly, was hampered shortly after the start between RELEASED (A. Best) and SPIRAL GALAXY (K. Yoshida), which was taken in by LAUREN'S HALO (B. Hull). Jockey Hull was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
PRINCE HATTAL (N. Yamada) raced wide during the early stages.
SEMI FINAL commenced to overrace leaving the 1600m until a point near the 1350m where it had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALL LINED UP (N. Evans).
SPIRAL GALAXY raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 750m MOON CHASER shifted out to improve and in doing so forced HOLY APOLLO (T. Fujinuma) wider on the track. HOLY APOLLO raced wide from that point onwards.
Near the 700m RELEASED was tightened for room between SPIRAL GALAXY and SEMI FINAL which shifted out.
Near the 550m SEMI FINAL improved on to the heels of FAMOUS FORTUNE (C. Small) and had to be steadied.
Near the 350m HOLY APOLLO overreacted to being steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between RELEASED and FAMOUS FORTUNE (C. Small) which shifted out. C. Small was reprimanded for this incident.
Near the 100m the tiring HOLY APOLLO shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of FAMOUS FORTUNE.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey P. Wolfgram regarding his tactics aboard MONSOON REIGN, in that on leaving the 800m there appeared to be opportunity for him to follow the favourite RELEASED, which was being ridden forward at that stage. Jockey Wolfgram stated that it had been his intention to follow RELEASED at that point, however MONSOON REIGN failed to quicken despite vigorous riding. He added that MONSOON REIGN was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 2: 7 NEWS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Rain Bay 2nd – Easy Rolling 3rd – Redbolt 4th – Fat Henry
Track temperature: 12 degrees celsius
SARISTA (B. Hull), which was slow to begin, then raced ungenerously with its head in the air until approaching the 1000m.
Shortly after the start GIDDAY GIDDAY (A.Taylor), which shifted out, was steadied from the heels of KISS THE GROOM (C. Small) which shifted in.
DE VILLE (A. Best) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 500m REDBOLT (S. Guymer) improved on to the heels of the tiring KISS THE GROOM and had to be checked as a result. REDBOLT was then held up for clear running until a point rounding the home turn and then was shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running and in doing so forced GIDDAY GIDDAY wider.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of RAIN BAY, trainer S. Campbell stated that in his opinion the filly at its most recent start failed to handle the heavy track and this resulted in the poor performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 3: XXXX BITTER CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Dulbydilla 2nd – Queenofbeaudesert 3rd – Tycoon Is In 4th – Shumie Go
Track temperature: 10 degrees celsius.
KINETIC HEAT was presented to the enclosure without a Cornell collar, which is part of the approved gear for that gelding. As no Cornell collar was available on course, and bearing in mind the potential safety concern in not wearing this piece of gear, stewards ordered that KINETIC HEAT should not be permitted to race without it and declared the gelding a late scratching at 6.19 p.m. LADY TINGLE was also declared a late scratching at 6.25 p.m. when it refused to be loaded. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on KINETIC HEAT and LADY TINGLE be refunded, with deductions of 33 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 29 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply to bets placed prior to 6.19 p.m. and deductions of 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply to bets placed between 6.19 p.m. and 6.25 p.m. Trainer S. Foster was advised that he must obtain two barrier certificates for LADY TINGLE before she races again, one of which must include an official barrier trial. At a subsequent inquiry, trainer B. Ruming pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 140A of presenting KINETIC HEAT to race without its correct gear and was fined $300.
ERNST AUGUST (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.
VOLANT CHEVAL (J. Letherby) shifted in on jumping away, making contact with IMPASSION (B. Hull).
DULBYDILLA (S. Guymer) raced wide during the early stages.
VOLANT CHEVAL raced wide for the majority of the event.
DULBYDILLA laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten on a number of occasions.
ERNST AUGUST (S. Bogenhuber) bled during the event. As this was the first occasion which the gelding had bled, it will incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing under AR. 53A and must gallop satisfactorily over at least 1000m in the presence of a steward.
Race 4: SNOOZE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Willhaveahundred 2nd – Rosalita 3rd – Heza Guru 4th – Lonesome Day
Track temperature: 9 degrees celsius.
The start of this race was delayed to allow a harness race to be televised.
BEST PICK (M. Dorrington) was slow to begin.
LIL RED ROOSTER (N. Evans) was tightened for room at the start between WILLHAVEAHUNDRED (N. Yamada) and LONESOME DAY (P. Wolfgram), both of which shifted ground.
A short distance after the start SUPERTROOPER (W. Clasohm) was tightened for room between HEZA GURU (Michael Palmer) and SOBO (S. Guymer), which shifted out.
LIL RED ROOSTER raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 900m SOBO, after receiving a bump when SUPERTROOPER shifted in, commenced to overrace at the heels of LONESOME DAY and as a result shifted out to avoid that horse’s heels.
Leaving the 800m SILVERLINITY (A.Taylor) overraced at the heels of EVEN AFTER (T. Fujinuma).
ROSALITA (A. Best) was held up rounding the home turn and was then obliged to shift out after entering the straight to obtain clear running.
A post-race veterinary examination of EVEN AFTER, which tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer E Ropiha was advised that the nomination of EVEN AFTER will be refused for provincial meetings until the horse’s form improves at non-TAB meetings.
Race 5: PSP VIDEO MAIDEN PLATE – 1500M
1st – Wicked Whispers 2nd – Echoic 3rd – Flower Chariot 4th – Lightning Flash
Track temperature: 9 degrees celsius.
THE ENEMY WITHIN (S. Bogenhuber), COOPERS COMET (Michael Palmer) and AMOREENA (C. Gilby) were slow to begin.
LASTING MEMORY (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Near the 1400m ERIS (T. Fujinuma) shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of ADOPA (W. Clasohm) which shifted in.
Near the 1300m THOR REAL (C. Small) commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of FLOWER CHARIOT (A. Best). THOR REAL then shifted out forcing TAISUN (P. Schmidt) and ADOPA wider on the track.
ADOPA, AMOREENA and LASTING MEMORY raced wide throughout.
LIGHTNING FLASH (C. Priest) overraced during the middle stages.
LASTING MEMORY hung out rounding the home turn.
LIGHTNING FLASH shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice C. Priest, the rider of LIGHTNING FLASH, was advised to stop riding and straighten her mount in similar circumstances.
Stewards questioned J. Letherby regarding his tactics on ECHOIC and the performance of the filly. Apprentice Letherby stated that he had been instructed to take hold out of the barriers and ride in a rearward position. He stated that shortly after the start the horse raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained. He further added that he was able to improve forward into the race from approaching the 500m and that the horse hung out rounding the home turn, however raced tractably once straightening. Traimer M. Webb confirmed the instructions and the comments were noted.
Race 6: 7 HOME & AWAY QTIS TWO-TYEARS-OLD H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Tycoon Cat 2nd – Silverton 3rd – Tycoon Treasure 4th – Maid Of Sevens
Track temperature: 8 degrees celsius.
MAID OF SEVENS (W. Clasohm) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination DARK SECRETS, which finished last, failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer T. Sears could offer no explanation other than that the horse was having its first start back from a spell and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in following days which may explain the performance.
Race 7: SOUTHERN CROSS AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Professor 2nd – Sheemon 3rd – Olanal 4th – Kootenannie
Track temperature: 3 degrees celsius.
PRINCE CALLUM was declared a late scratching at 8.27 p.m. by order of the stewards when the horse failed to arrive on course. Stewards intend to interview trainer D. Murphy regarding this matter.
KOOTENANNIE (Michael Palmer) was slow to begin.
SHEEMON (J. Letherby) overraced during the middle stages.
OLANAL (N. Yamada), which was wide throughout, was forced wider near the 400m when JUST A CLASSIC (N. Tomizawa) shifted out to improve.
Near the 200m KOOTENANNIE was momentarily held up for clear running and was forced to shift out around the heels of SHEEMON as a result.
SHEEMON (J. Letherby) hung in over the concluding stages, forcing its rider to stop riding and straighten on a number of occasions.
Stewards questioned trainer Ms R. Pereira and jockey P. Wolfgram regarding the poor performance of ROGUES. Jockey Wolfgram stated that the horse had travelled well until approaching the 500m, at which point he placed the horse under pressure and it failed to run on. Ms Pereira stated that in her opinion perhaps the step up in class may have contributed to the performance. She gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may explain the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of ROGUES revealed no abnormalities.
